Appropriate ID for long summer- help!

Babachew · 18/06/2024 07:53

One of ds's friends is not 18 until end of August and needs appropriate ID for summer.
He's already been scammed twice, and feels like giving up.
His parents live overseas and don't really understand the issue e.g where they live no one ever asks for ID! I really need any advice or genuine pointers.

You mean, fake ID?

DoublePeonies · 18/06/2024 08:01

Passport?
Provisional driving license - even if not planning on driving.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 18/06/2024 08:04

I’m an August baby and I think you just have to live with it once everyone else is actually 18. It’s one thing when you’re all underage and trying to get in but another when everyone can 100% get in except for you. I just didn’t go out much that summer to be honest.

Iloveeverycat · 18/06/2024 08:06

You can apply for a citizen card they do official ID for 16- 17 or 18+ are they a UK resident

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 18/06/2024 08:13

I don't think fake ID is as easy to get as it used to be. Everyone's far more educated on what's acceptable and businesses have a lot to lose by being lax.

They sound like a good idea but most places won't accept them unfortunately.

minipie · 18/06/2024 09:22

16+ Zip Oystercard is photo ID, bit of a faff to get if you don’t live in London but can be done

minipie · 18/06/2024 09:22

(I am assuming you don’t mean fake ID)

RampantIvy · 18/06/2024 10:12

IME many bars and clubs will only accept a passport or driving licence as ID for proof of age. DD doesn't drive but has a provisional driving licence for this purpose.

BoxingFoamDollies · 18/06/2024 10:15

Provisional driving license, lots of places won't accept a Citizen Card. Is he proving he is 17 or is this he wants a fake ID to say he is 18 when he isn't?

BumBumCream · 18/06/2024 10:16

Apparently you can get fake ID on Snapchat.

Fintoo · 18/06/2024 10:19

Do you mean fake ID?!

DogInATent · 18/06/2024 10:19

Appropriate ID for what?

Making the assumption that there's a vanishingly small chance this isn't a request for something illegal.

Babachew · 18/06/2024 15:54

Appropriate for appropriateness. That's all! TIA

Well passport or provisional driving license

Unless you mean something that makes him appear 18?

Youdontevengohere · 18/06/2024 15:56

I assume ‘appropriate’ ID means ID that shows his actual age, so passport is probably his best bet, or a provisional driving licence?

RancidOldHag · 18/06/2024 15:59

Provisional driving licence is the best bet.

£34 for an online application, should take about 3 weeks to arrive, and fits handily in a phone case.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 18/06/2024 16:26

I think it’s clear from the original post that they mean a fake id. Summer born, so everyone else is actually 18, mentions being scammed already, plus parents not understanding as they live somewhere where you don’t get asked for id.

I am pretty sure the poster is not after tips for getting official id 😁

That's rather cryptic.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 18/06/2024 17:21

If his parents live abroad doesn't he have a passport? I can't think of any scenario where a passport would not be considered appropriate ID.

Exactly! Also, what do you mean he has been scammed twice? Has he been trying to get fake ID?

NerrSnerr · 18/06/2024 17:25

Do you mean fake ID? If so, just say. I know a few teens who borrow a friend or siblings ID occasionally.

If you mean real ID then provisional driving licence or passport.

Ivyy · 18/06/2024 18:50

Assuming op means fake ID, as otherwise they'd just use their passport as proof of age? Unless they're worried about losing it when out and about so want something else less valuable to use? In that case applying for a provisional driving license is a good alternative.

Thinking op means fake ID, because friends will be 18 by then and the teen who's bday isn't til August will be the only still without proof of age they're 18

lol, this doesn't help

fashionqueen0123 · 18/06/2024 19:00

Just sneak in in the middle of the group and hide in the women’s loos when the bouncers come looking for ID. That’s what my August born friend did 🤣
Or go to a pub where asking what year you were born counts as ID. Those were the days.
