Appropriate ID for long summer- help!

Babachew · 18/06/2024 07:53

One of ds's friends is not 18 until end of August and needs appropriate ID for summer.
He's already been scammed twice, and feels like giving up.
His parents live overseas and don't really understand the issue e.g where they live no one ever asks for ID! I really need any advice or genuine pointers.

Just sneak in in the middle of the group and hide in the women’s loos when the bouncers come looking for ID. That’s what my August born friend did 🤣
Or go to a pub where asking what year you were born counts as ID. Those were the days.

Oh God yes!!

Appropriate for appropriateness. That's all! TIA

That's clear as mud then.

He can get a passport or a provisional driving licence.

He's unlikely to be able to get any fake ID that will work for the purposes of getting served alcohol, if that's what you mean.

DiscoBeat · 18/06/2024 19:01

Does he not have a passport? Or even if he doesn't intend to drive yet he could get a provisional license?

I that case either his passport, a provisional driving license or a citizen card would be perfectly appropriate.

I was just saying to my DD (who has just finished her GCSEs) that at the end of our GCSEs we went clubbing in central Manchester. Not a single bit of ID amongst us, real or fake! Times have changed…

StikItToTheMan · 18/06/2024 19:26

I used to use my genuine Provisional Licence as ID at multiple clubs and pubs when I was 17.

Barely anyone actually looked at it and it was 90% successful. I'd just thrust out the licence, they'd clock it, glance at the picture and wave me in. Because who would be stupid enough to use ID proving they were underage? 😂

I remember a while back seeing bouncers using some kind of machine to even scan peoples IDs presumably to check it wasn’t fake! Felt so sorry for the teens 🤣

Oh God yes!!

And even sometimes if you said the wrong year you’d be let in!

footgoldcycle · 18/06/2024 19:38

So you do mean fake id!
Just say that

FortyFacedFuckers · 18/06/2024 20:22

I don't actually know if you mean fake ID but if you do, fake ID's are usually spotted round here but the kids usually get ID from older friends/siblings even when they don't particularly look a like they are always let in with them

Babachew · 18/06/2024 22:06

He doesn't have a male sibling.
Think I'll just ask my local shopkeeper to knock one up.

footgoldcycle · 18/06/2024 22:17

I can't imagine it's even possible anymore. Was hard enough 25 years ago. Most people I know who needed one borrowed an id from an older sibling or friend/ friends sibling who looked sort of like them.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/06/2024 22:56

Here's some False ID guidance

RampantIvy · 18/06/2024 23:03

That link doesn't work @ErrolTheDragon

A lot of clubs now have ID scanners so they can tell if fake.

Babachew · 19/06/2024 19:37

I'll make sure it's scannable too. Check it with UV reader 👍

Why did you need help if your local shop keeper can get you what you need?

Babachew · 19/06/2024 22:53

It's a question re appropriateness & being appropriate

Because it's amazing how fakeness looks under UV.

Older sibling loaned ID to my younger one. They look fairly alike; obviously this wouldn't work for everyone.

If you mean appropriate for helping a minor to be served alcohol then just say so.

Not sure Mumsnet is the best place to ask though.

I feel like a party with you would just be you cryptically using the word ‘appropriate’ to yourself while laughing under your breath!
