I think my friend has been arrested? So worried

Yesterday the police came to my door asking about the whereabouts of my male friend.I rang my friend and he said 2 youths had turned up at his door calling him a peado and trying to break in and threatening him with violence. He said he ran out the back door and ran away. He sounded terrified and told me he has no idea why they were there and he hasn't done anything. He spoke to the police and said he wanted to speak to them because he was so scared. They told him they would pick him up in police car. This was yesterday afternoon and I've not heard from him since.I've been to his house and there was a police notice half sticking out of his letterbox saying they have taken away all his phones and laptop etc and some cannabis (he smokes for himself, not a dealer). I just rang police because I'm so worried about him. He not in his house. Curtains are drawn which is v unusual.I was panicking he might be lying dead in the house or been attacked.Police have said 'he is safe and well and we know where he is' but can't tell me more. This sounds like he is in custody doesn't it? I'm now thinking he must have done something very serious? Or they have found something? It sounds like he may be in custody from yesterday, overnight and all today?? This sounds very serious doesn't it?I'm trying to think of reasons why they would keep him in custody if it was all a misunderstanding? I cant think of any.

Sorry op, it sounds very much like your friend wasn't who you thought he was

aerkfjherf · 14/06/2024 15:09

well, no one here can tell you! Just put it out of your head and do something nice with the rest of the day - time will tell

Fgfgfg · 14/06/2024 15:11

Sorry op. If they've taken his phones and laptop they'll be looking for something.

Jeezitneverends · 14/06/2024 15:12

He’s in custody, that’s the phrase used

Ponderingwindow · 14/06/2024 15:14

If you know he is safe, then you are just going to have to wait.

be prepared that he is going to have good reason to lie to you if there is something behind any allegations. You will have to wait for actual facts to be released.

PossumintheHouse · 14/06/2024 15:16

How well do you know this friend and how long have you known him? Because from what you've described, it sounds like he might have a dark past that you don't know about.

aerkfjherf · 14/06/2024 15:18

how do you know what has been taken? That shouldn't happen - that is a breach of GDPR

aerkfjherf · 14/06/2024 15:19

also, he smokes cannabis, so you know just from that he's cool with a little bit of child trafficking and modern slavery, so what more do you need to know?

CalicoPusscat · 14/06/2024 15:32

It's impossible to tell what's going on from that. He's physically safe in custody, if the police find something incriminating they will deal with it accordingly.

Maddy70 · 14/06/2024 15:33

Sounds like he's been accused. They have taken his phone etc to look for evidence. If hes innocent he will be freed if they have some evidence or ia accused by a 'victim' he will be arrested pending evidence. If he is innocent it's the worst possible thing to be accused of

This happened to a family member after being plastered all over the papers It was thrown out in court and the accuser found it hilarious. (It was revenge for being dumped) which was openly admitted. It drove my relative to attempted suicide. He lost his relationship and job before the case being dropped. Nothing happened to the accuser...

And hes still living with the stigma just awful

Ugov · 14/06/2024 15:36

If he's been accused, they'll have taken his things to investigate.

If he's been threatened, you'd hope the police wouldn't be telling anyone his whereabouts, whether he's still with them or not.

CalicoPusscat · 14/06/2024 15:36

@Maddy70 that's awful, there are a few horrible people in this world

Flopsythebunny · 14/06/2024 15:39

Sounds like it was one of the pedophile exposure groups at his door

GalileoHumpkins · 14/06/2024 15:39

Why would the police leave a note saying any of this, who were they leaving it for?

Unforgettablefire · 14/06/2024 15:47

Why would the police take him but put a note halfway through his door saying his devices had been taken?
Really strange.Especially given most people know why the police seize devices and anyone could have read it.

EatCrow · 14/06/2024 15:52

Why would they leave a note with very personal and specific information on his door for all the world to see?

The more I think about this, the more unlikely it seems….if it’s been a group who expose paedophiles, I wonder if they’ve managed to mock up some headed paper so it looks like it’s come from police, and it’s they who have left the note…I know that sounds like a stretch, but I can’t imagine police would ever leave a note like that

They wouldn’t so I can only assume someone or group has done what you’ve said.

Jeezitneverends · 14/06/2024 16:09

@EatCrow certainly not in my 20+ years experience

As you are if you buy anything - child labour is rife in your high street stores.

Rebusmyfire · 14/06/2024 16:12

I do not understand the note. If he is custody he will be informed of the search and a document given listing of all the items taken to be examined.

StasisMom · 14/06/2024 16:16

If the police have him in custody, they'd hardly have left a note in the door.

Horrified14 · 14/06/2024 16:21

There was a note on police paper. It was like an inventory of what had been taken..
It was in the letterbox but hadn't been pushed through properly so I pulled it back out and read it.

My friend got arrested for suspected rape. It was a false allegation from an ex for revenge. Proven she lied after an investigation.

he was arrested and his phone taken off him. He was in custody for 18 hours and questioned. I only found out as he turned up at my door when he was released.

he lost some friends and was suspended from his job. Investigation took months. I stood by him as I was sure he was innocent, knowing his ex and his nature. But I would have been very upset if it was proven he had.

you need to decide if you want to be there for support. I listened to his story and did ask questions as at the back of my mind was why accuse someone of there was no truth.

in the end it came out as revenge. She was warned but no action taken. But he is still scarred and finds relationships hard.

just listen to him and then decide what you think. But be prepared to find out he may not be the person you think he is.

OP

Try not to worry as your partner has told you he is innocent. the police do have to follow up stuff like this.
Ask for the duty sergent/officer and tell them you are worried and I am sure the will enlighten you and I guess he will be released soon anyways.

You know him well and you trust him, so give them a callasn see what they say
