I think my friend has been arrested? So worried

Yesterday the police came to my door asking about the whereabouts of my male friend.I rang my friend and he said 2 youths had turned up at his door calling him a peado and trying to break in and threatening him with violence. He said he ran out the back door and ran away. He sounded terrified and told me he has no idea why they were there and he hasn't done anything. He spoke to the police and said he wanted to speak to them because he was so scared. They told him they would pick him up in police car. This was yesterday afternoon and I've not heard from him since.I've been to his house and there was a police notice half sticking out of his letterbox saying they have taken away all his phones and laptop etc and some cannabis (he smokes for himself, not a dealer). I just rang police because I'm so worried about him. He not in his house. Curtains are drawn which is v unusual.I was panicking he might be lying dead in the house or been attacked.Police have said 'he is safe and well and we know where he is' but can't tell me more. This sounds like he is in custody doesn't it? I'm now thinking he must have done something very serious? Or they have found something? It sounds like he may be in custody from yesterday, overnight and all today?? This sounds very serious doesn't it?I'm trying to think of reasons why they would keep him in custody if it was all a misunderstanding? I cant think of any.

I'm updating cos I know it's annoying when people don't.
He was taken into custody, the allegations were investigated and he was released without charge.
He has all his I.T stuff back. No further action.
I told him I read his post. He didn't mind at all because he knows I was frantic about him.

Thank you for all your posts. I just needed to offload and have assurance that people in this situation can also be innocent but investigated anyway (which is absolutely correct when it involves serious crime)

Thanks for the update. Hope things are ok now.

Good to see your update. Glad all is ok

Is he telling you the truth? He was arrested on Thursday, had his devices taken away and by Sunday the police have investigated and decided there is no case to answer?! They wouldn’t even have had a chance to look at his laptop by then. It has to be examined by specialist officers, not just the PC in the local station.

Quite. There's something not right about all this.

They can't charge you without evidence and they can't hold you indefinitely without charge

Marrta · 17/06/2024 09:55

As if he would have called the police on himself though if he was guilty

Thanks everyone.

I'm a bit horrified by the general implication that because he has few friends thar automatically makes him a peado/weirdo.

Don't we often see posts on here from women with no friends?

I am bracing myself for something horrible but hoping it might not be.
I know I can't do anything now.

Thank you

I know! I don't get the few friends therefore paedo link! I have seen the update so am aware of the police view, but would have thought the same before.

I really don't like the idea that someone must be guilty to be arrested. Innocent people get arrested for crimes too and that's why we trials., so you don't need to make your mind up one way another as to his guilt just yet op.

Absolutely true. And the police really do act without checking and double checking evidence. Disclaimer - not in all cases but in more than you may think.

Absolutely. After an experience I witnessed with a very close family member I can absolutely see how innocent people end up in jail for years. I do not trust police after what I've seen and how badly my relative was let down. It was a good lesson for our family that's for sure.. Zero respect.

Oh give over it takes months

It does take months, my friend snapped at her prick of a boyfriend. But unfortunately on social media so police wanted her phone for forensics for a while, he reported it as hate speech.

I raised my eyebrows at the time it took. What she said was true however! I told my mother and she said "but he is though"
