Blimey, She’s not letting him off the hook at all. Cut above the rest of the interviewers IMO.

Remember this speech? And why he had to make it?
This a reminder that not all politician are the same, and why it is important to vote.

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2024 23:29

Was the woman question dealt with in any way?or how to reconcile the rights of women and girls with proposals to make it easier for men who think they are women to access changing rooms etc?

Starmer went to a Grammar school that turned into a private school.

Btw I was state educated in the comprehensive system. Due to where I grow up, which was completely accident, myself and my younger siblings ended up with very good comprehensive educations.

It only turned into a private school when he was in the sixth form, and he stayed on as a state school pupil without fees being charged.

Goldenbear I don’t know a soul who likes him and I’m a Labour voter and I only know Labour voters. The only thing in his favour is that he isn’t Corbyn.

So he is there to win the elections right. Who do they like AR?

Apolloneuro · 12/06/2024 23:36

In my household, we thought Beth Rigby was appalling. Terrible, pseudo intellectual with an annoying voice and poor manners.

I’ve not forgotten she got a fine for breaking Covid regulations.

Sky doesn’t do this sort of thing well at all.

Reugny · 12/06/2024 23:50

I saw Newsnight afterwards.

It was amusing to see 3 male politicians pooing themselves having to answer "Vic" Derbyshire.

I very much agree.

Nothing dull about Theresa May and her running through wheat fields.
She was perhaps the last vaguely serious seeming PM we had though when you consider the dross and clowns the Tories have given us since.

Theresa May would have done better had she been PM after Boris. As is she was handed a poisoned challis and hounded by him. Her Brexit deal was better than his lest we forget.

As for the interviews, I didn’t watch them. I’m just wondering if the style changed because with Keir it’s all about pinning him down to answer the question as he’s slippery and will wheedle his way out whereas with Rishi, it’s a case of letting him waffle and hang himself.

She need to let him actually speak. Far too quick to interrupt

I don't have Sky so haven't got a clue what went on, but if there's one thing I can't stand it's an interviewer who dominates, makes the interview all about them, and won't let the interviewee get a sentence out before interrupting them, trying to be clever.

It's maddening, and seems to happen more and more. Interviewers becoming the star of the show, I'd have switched off the TV or walked away in disgust and frustration at that performance. I just want to hear what the interviewee has to say, not the interviewer, they're only there to facilitate not dominate.

whoever she is she's obviously gone to the James O'Brien (LBC) School of Interview Techniques, he's another one!

Did you see the opening question though? It was fair.

She focused in on the Corbyn stuff fair enough but then never mentions Sunaks foul ups, Eat out to help out, his partygate fine or business support loan fraud.

But then again Sunak looked a bit broken, i thought he was going to break down at one point.

Rigby let him off the hook on the tax lies too.

thefireplace · 13/06/2024 06:41

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 12/06/2024 22:49

Starmer also said, "Corbyn would make a good PM"!! What does that tell us??

A minister or shadow minister should support the elected leader of their party.

Sunak supported Boris Johnson, one of the uk's worst Prime Ministers we ever had and thats saying something....

I do wonder where all these qualified dentists and doctors are going to appear from?
Cloud cuckoo land???
And this applies to all parties!

There are loads of dentists. They just dont want to work in the NHS because of the contract. TBH, whenever Ive heard Wes Streeting on the NHS, he always answers directly. He seems well on top of his his brief. They should wheel him out more often, or take some tips from him on how to answer a direct question ( I know TWAW/Stonewall etc) but I am impressed by him.

This. ^

She was terrible. Constantly interrupting and grandstanding and being insufferably smug during the Starmer interviewer. It was appalling journalism because it did nothing to help viewers to finally understand what Starmer stands for, because she never let him finish a single answer!

I did wonder if she'd looked at Twitter during the break, where she was getting mauled for all of the above, because she was far more conciliatory towards Sunak, who at times looked like he might cry.

BibbleandSqwauk · 13/06/2024 07:43

I haven't seen it but the interrupting is often because it's immediately obvious they are not going to answer the q asked and try to run out the clock filling in with soundbites and slogans. I'm all for interviewers not letting them do it. A while back I remember KS was on the Laura Kuenssberg show and he must have said "steely determination" about 14 times in as many minutes. It was tedious and did nothing to actually explain concrete plans.

Labour aren't planning to change the contract either.

Its extra emergency appointments and "Golden Hello's"

So a continuation of the Tory plan which hasn't improved nhs dentistry.

Shit really.

Dymaxion · 13/06/2024 07:53

Is anyone else getting fed up with the endless questions about taxes ? We all know that whoever gets in is going to raise some taxes, because that is how they generally get money from the population to provide services for them. That or borrow money.
The problem the Conservatives have is that they have been in for 14 years, we have the highest tax burden for decades, the national debt is at record figures and the services are still failing, which does beg the question, where has all the money gone ?

You've had a sneak preview of the manifesto that confirms they aren't?

StarlightLady · 13/06/2024 07:59

Rigby is not Laura or Fiona Bruce is she? I was playing “OK Bingo”. Her delivery was awful, no interviewing technique at all. Sky should have given the role to Sophy Ridge.

LumiB · 13/06/2024 08:00

Pepsiisbetterthancoke · 12/06/2024 20:11

I think you are being very disingenuous. Private dentistry is much more common than private healthcare

Many people of all wage brackets pay for dentists, mostly because it’s the only choice

Except previously he said even if his family.had to go on a wait list he would do just thay because he believes in the NHS, so why hasn't he gone on the wait list for NHS dentist there are some around just takes ages to get one.

So basically it's bs he will use private healthcare and not wait so he doesn't really believe in the NHS just destroys his statement before. All talk but when it comes down to it he won't follow through

beAsensible1 · 13/06/2024 08:00

Savaged?? I thought it was ridiculously chummy frankly.

and focused on tax when there are much more chinks in his platform

Its all on Labours website and Streeting spoke about it a day or two ago....

A nhs dentist gets £26 for a filling and around 360 for root canal, inc a crown.

A private dentist get £160 for a filling and £800 to 1000 for root canal.

so unless Lab is planning on matching these fees, why would any dentist take a pay cut???

I am about 5 mins behind, but his answer to the question where he got the chance to sell himself was awful. Just awful.

he doesn't need to sell himself. He needs to let the audience know what labour would do. All he did was to try to go off on one of his well worn monologues to avoid answering difficult questions. We've all heard these monologues from him which usually have absolutely nothing to do with the question asked, and are just time wasters so he can avoid answering questions he didn't likle and couldn't answer.
I was so glad she interrupted him as I've heard these 'change the subject quickly' monologues more than I would like and I wanted to hear real answers.

Ooh. ‘I don’t use private HC’last week….

This week ‘Yes I use a private dentist’

So do most people.

There aren't enough nhs dentists and most people can't get on a list.

You can access nhs healthcare even if you have to wait on a list.
