Blimey, She’s not letting him off the hook at all. Cut above the rest of the interviewers IMO.

At last - an honest answer. It is only human as a Dad you would worry about your kids.

'Tell us something about yourself' was his cue to say, 'I love a takeaway and a weekend playing football' not go on about his service in Northern Ireland.

I was genuinely hoping we could find out a bit more about him as a human.

Netaporter · 12/06/2024 19:54

The audience member is quite right tho. After 20 mins, still none the wiser.

Totally agree.

I think changing yoir mind isn't a bad thing as long as you don't go back on what is elected on.

TheShellBeach · 12/06/2024 19:56

I thought she was awful. Very rude. Asking him questions and then not letting him answer.

It'll be interesting to see how she interviews Sunak.

Pepsiisbetterthancoke · 12/06/2024 19:57

She is awful and at times downright rude. Will be watching go see if it’s a fair challenge with Rishi getting the same treatment.

Its a shame that all of the facilitators of these debates have been pretty shocking

TBF, I thought he set the tone by not answering the first question. He’s only himself to blame there.

Rishi is already have a crap time, it makes no difference. This is Keir’s to lose.

I think he's doing a bit better now he's on his feet and he's engaging with the audience. You can see his barrister training coming out.

She didn’t let him answer it though. She set the tone in the first few minutes

He tried to answer a question she didn’t ask him tho.

He had to work really hard to try and actually answer. I thought she was really poor

I find her smug and I can't bear the affected way she won't pronounce the letter 'g'. She's not the only one, though, who's smug.

TheShellBeach · 12/06/2024 20:00

The Labour Party will not lose. They're going to get a massive majority.

Icantpaint · 12/06/2024 20:02

Audience q&a is better as he’s got the space to answer. You can clearly see how a poor interview style stops us finding anything out

medianewbie · 12/06/2024 20:02

I normally like BR but she's being really sarky. It's irritating. Let him speak!

WinterMorn · 12/06/2024 20:02

I am about 5 mins behind, but his answer to the question where he got the chance to sell himself was awful. Just awful.

That’s also what was thought in 1992. Kinnock lost.

I don’t doubt they’ll win but it may be because of votes for the other parties - Greens/Lib Dems/Reform

Did the poster mean this evening's bout rather than the election?

Yes, maybe. I wasn't quite sure.

Beth Rigby is a brilliant journalist. I am in awe of her. I can watch her clips over again. Away to watch this one as I haven't as yet.

Blackcatty · 12/06/2024 20:06

Loved this interview. Beth Rigby on her best form and I thought Starmer came out fighting and sounded good. Tricky questions and he dealt with them really well.
I like him. I think he’s smart and has got Labour exactly to where it needs to be to be elected.
Of course he won’t want to have powers fettered on all sources of govt income for the whole parliament… things like fuel duty - that would be a mistake and would have knock on consequences for public services.
