what you cannot resist but dont need

not something you need but for instance you are drawn to when out shopping. my problem is;
dog beds. my dogs have at least 3 beds each and dont use any of them but out shopping I am drawn to the soft fluffy furry little beds I cannot resist them!
Mugs; I have enough to start a cafe but I get drawn to them like a magnet, there is always one pattern or picture mug that I just dont have but really need to!

I do resist, because I never wear them unless I am away from home with someone other than husband 😂but I could buy pyjamas until the cows came home.

I also have a big of a bad 'canvas tote bag from somewhere I've visited' habit, which I don't always resist.

I also buy all the plants, but am not counting that, because I've normally gone out deliberately to do it even though I've already got far too many.

Clothes for my son. I go overboard every single time Blush

Multi packs of socks and pants
Those jelly sweets with white marshmallow underneath
Matching cheap stationery from Wilko (RIP)
Pencils as souvenirs
Anything from the RNLI shop

KickAssAngel · 14/06/2024 10:56

I've learned to resist a lot of things, but I always buy plants. I have a big garden and there will always be space for just one more.

Blackcats7 · 14/06/2024 11:08

Plants and cat related items. Never get to go actual shopping due to disability but online shopping is a double edged sword. I would have saved a small fortune if no spur of the moment purchases whilst scrolling.

Cattenberg · 14/06/2024 12:28

I also can’t resist buying things I don’t need from an international fair trade site called Novica. The craftmanship of some of the items is exceptional and you can read about the artisans who made the items and how this income stream is improving their lives.

Stupidly expensive candles, I start to panic when I'm down to my last THREE for God's sake! And jumpers, friggin jumpers! At the last count I had 37, three of which were duplicates (I have no idea how).

If it’s just the look of the candles rather than the perfume, you could do the “hack” of digging out a tealight-shaped hole around the wick and using cheap tea light candles inside a handsome expensive pillar style.

Everlasting candles!

Looking for a shade that probably doesn't exist

LandedSentry · 14/06/2024 15:56

Handbags and scarves.

thats it.

LandedSentry · 14/06/2024 15:56

Oh I forgot books. I love books so much.

LandedSentry · 14/06/2024 15:58

@idrinkandiknowthings I had an indoor plant phase. My (tiny) kitchen was like a greenhouse. It was sweet though.

LandedSentry · 14/06/2024 16:15

I do love earrings but have calmed down since I inherited some real diamond ones. Maybe I should have bought them from the beginning to wear every day; the cost would have been the same? Though perhaps not as much fun as the colourful cheap ones I’ve relied on so far.

Bed linen. Hmmm. I do have a couple of beautiful bed linen duvet covers eg Orla Kiely I’ll probably never use 😞. As they’re single and I sleep in a double.

I dislike having excess so don’t like to see it! But I’m struggling g with my handbag collection. I have about 12-15, so close to my max. It’s not like I even go anywhere special (I’ve got ME/CFS).

I do most of my shopping online so I'm pretty good at not buying on impulse, but there are two particular online shops I love that I can't resist getting things from when they have a sale (which is frequently). One sells really good quality (and also cheap) cards and wrapping paper. The other sells little gifts, children's tableware, bunting, string, toys, homeware - all sorts of lovely things at ridiculously cheap prices when on sale.

I now have a HUGE stash of cards and paper so really mustn't buy any more, but I get little things for Christmas stockings (in our household Christmas stockings are full of little things and separate from the main (1) Christmas present) throughout the year from the other shop.

charlieinthehaystack · 14/06/2024 19:11

Oooh my kind of online shops please tell us which they are!

Leather bags (natural tan, no big names)
Hair products
Linen tops (autocorrect gave me 'lube')
Sofa throws

Insegnante · 14/06/2024 20:13

Coloured glassware. And it always ends up looking rubbish.

DilemmaDelilah · 15/06/2024 06:55

@charlieinthehaystack am I allowed to do that? Well, if not then I'm sure my reply will be deleted.

For cards and paper (they do other things as well) Whistlefish. The quality is excellent and the offers are really good.

For little gifty bits etc., Rex London. In fact I have an order due to arrive today I think! I have bought melamine tableware for the grandchildren, small stocking gifts, Christmas decorations, a gorgeous little hat and muslin set for a colleagues new baby, some great shopping and storage bags.... the list goes on (not all this time!
