The name of of a coffee shop I walk past daily.

Brilliantly clever fun play on words, or somewhere you'd avoid?

It's always very busy and according to colleagues serves excellent coffee.

” U fuckoffee?” Has been a joke in our family for years. Wouldn’t be comfortable if the children had repeated it though.

zzplex · 08/06/2024 07:46

Avoid. Same with any venue with 'Dirty' in the name.

ssd · 08/06/2024 07:46

It wouldn't endear me to it but if the coffee was nice I'd forgive them

Thunderpants88 · 08/06/2024 07:47

I wouldn’t give them my buisness

Dearg · 08/06/2024 07:48

Oh no. Can’t say it would draw me in. How would I call MIL and suggest ‘I’ll meet you at Fuckoffee’
Not clever.

SuperGinger · 08/06/2024 07:50

It's in East London , I love the lego style sign, I wouldn't take my elderly parents there but it's just a name

mondaytosunday · 08/06/2024 07:50

No. Anything like that I think what message are they trying to convey? Hardly a welcoming one.

IDontHateRainbows · 08/06/2024 07:50

It would work better if it was called 'For coffee' and they let people make their own innuendos.

It's a bit too obvious otherwise

BinLolly · 08/06/2024 07:52

It wouldn't put me off at all it's just a name. It seems odd that it would stop people going especially if I'd heard reviews that the coffee was good which is surely the most important part of a coffee shop?

AyrshireTryer · 08/06/2024 07:52

Lol

JustaSmallSlice · 08/06/2024 07:53

I assume you mean the one on Bermondsey street. It’s only a name - the coffee is fine there. It’s an ‘edgy’ area, will induce a bit pearl clutching to very few in the area given the demographic of young, trendy workers

Chasingsquirrels · 08/06/2024 07:56

I have to say these things out loud to make sense of them, so if I just saw it on a shop sign I'd think it crude, unnecessary and I wouldn't like it.

I had to read the OP a few times, and then say the words to understand the meaning.
Having done so, I still don't like it.

jennifersa · 08/06/2024 07:56

What's the word play?

Writing fuck and adding offee isn't wordplay, it's stupid.

Tel12 · 08/06/2024 07:57

Avoid

Kpo58 · 08/06/2024 08:00

I wouldn't avoid it. Though I would avoid the frozen yoghurt kiosk called Snog as that was just crude.

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 08/06/2024 08:02

I would avoid them due to their historic use of racist and other offensive signage/social media posts.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 08/06/2024 08:02

Walked past when visiting London recently with my DH, I thought it was funny - he was glad we didn't have our DD with us - I couldn't get worked up about it personally.

Enko · 08/06/2024 08:02

I thought this thread was going to be about if it was appropriate to take your stbx for a coffee while telling them where to go.

Idk I'd I would want to use a shop w that name. I'm a bit of a coffee snob so it would likely depend on how good their coffee was.

I thought my dad was the only person who made this joke! 😄 It’s pretty tasteless as an actual shop name though, and not great to have to explain to your small children as you walk past. I’d assume it was run by pretentious hipsters and avoid.

Is this in matlock bath?

Candleabra · 08/06/2024 08:05

Nope. As someone said at upthread, call it For Coffee and enjoy some wry smiles at the wordplay. Crude and obvious. I don’t think the word fuck has any place in a shop name.

Gorgonemilezola · 08/06/2024 08:05

Trying a bit hard to be edgy. Remember fcuk emblazoned across everyone's t-shirt?

Greenbike · 08/06/2024 08:05

Clerkenwell, Goswell Road. It used to be my local! Nice atmosphere, friendly young staff, lots of comfy sofas, good coffee and soups/stews at lunch. The name is silly and puerile but everything else makes up for it.

Goingasteady30 · 08/06/2024 08:07

It sounds like it has the makings of a hipsters hell hoe to me.
