The name of of a coffee shop I walk past daily.

Brilliantly clever fun play on words, or somewhere you'd avoid?

It's always very busy and according to colleagues serves excellent coffee.

What's the word play?

Writing fuck and adding offee isn't wordplay, it's stupid.

As another PP said , it's meat to be ''For Coffee''...I didn't 'get it' either, and I usually love a good pun.

lemondropsandchimneytops · 08/06/2024 11:38

Haha. We'll offer each other a coff, or if making decaff, it'll be a fake coff, otherwise known as a foff. For the days when we're just not sure, there's half coff, half foff, which is known as facoff. So yes, I'd go to Fuckoffee if it's good!

Trainday · 08/06/2024 11:29

Maybe it's a chain or an old joke then because, no, not that one.

Looks like they have other branches, but all in east London and again areas I would describe as ‘edgy’ slightly rough but also hipster cool. I might raise an eyebrow if they had one Hampstead but less so in Nottinghill. I assume they know their clientele.

I wouldn’t necessarily avoid it, but it actually sounds slightly dated to me, and definitely wanna-be-hipster.
There were quite a few places with similar names around 15 years ago.

Justrelax · 08/06/2024 12:28

It's not clever or funny - just a bit meh. If it was the only place around I wouldn't let it put me off getting a coffee. If there was a choice I'd go somewhere else. Crass humour doesn't make me feel like they'd make a nice cup of coffee and a tasty baked good. Don't know why - just doesn't really go together. I prefer a more classy or cosy vibe.

positivewings · 08/06/2024 12:33

Wouldent bother me one bit tbh.
I walk in shops a coffee shops but i never really look at the names.
As long as they do good coffee or selling something i want i really dont care what their name is.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 08/06/2024 12:38

I don't like it. But then I'm one of those old fashioned types who doesn't swear in front of children or people I don't know. I think it's inappropriate as a shop name and not what I would want to see on my high street. Plus, it's not very clever.

Workhardcryharder · 08/06/2024 12:54

I have a feeling the clientele it’s trying to attract are not the ones who would find it offensive or crude

ATribeCalledQuestion · 08/06/2024 13:03

Awful. They'd never ever get my business.

Thecatistheboss · 08/06/2024 13:42

Shop in my county called ‘dirty dicks’ I’ve never been in

Fuckoffee

Edited

Now that’s quite silly, not even a play on words. And they sell kitchens?

Nanny0gg · 08/06/2024 13:53

Gorgonemilezola · 08/06/2024 08:05

Trying a bit hard to be edgy. Remember fcuk emblazoned across everyone's t-shirt?

Yes

Didn't like that either.

Nanny0gg · 08/06/2024 13:54

Newsenmum · 08/06/2024 11:32

It does good coffee. It’s not even that rude!

What would be that rude?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/06/2024 13:55

The sense of humor on this thread is highly lacking.

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 08/06/2024 13:57

bookworm14 · 08/06/2024 08:03

I thought my dad was the only person who made this joke! 😄 It’s pretty tasteless as an actual shop name though, and not great to have to explain to your small children as you walk past. I’d assume it was run by pretentious hipsters and avoid.

Maybe it's died out but are you fuckoffee or fartea? Was a common saying when I was younger, I guess I assumed it was normal but maybe not

CheeseWisely · 08/06/2024 14:01

I'd assume they had small cups, fuckoffee cups being the small ones you use for guests when you actually want them to leave.

lipglossandmascara · 08/06/2024 14:05

IDontHateRainbows · 08/06/2024 07:50

It would work better if it was called 'For coffee' and they let people make their own innuendos.

It's a bit too obvious otherwise

This is so true

Lemsipper · 08/06/2024 14:06

Thunderpants88 · 08/06/2024 07:47

I wouldn’t give them my buisness

r u always such a bore fest. U know we live on a floating rock in space right?

MumofSpud · 08/06/2024 14:06

Kpo58 · 08/06/2024 08:00

I wouldn't avoid it. Though I would avoid the frozen yoghurt kiosk called Snog as that was just crude.

Near me was a cafe called 'French Kiss' - that set my teeth on edge! It didn't last long!

yourlittleworldfallingapart · 08/06/2024 14:07

Ooh! Swearing, tee hee hee.

Turmerictolly · 08/06/2024 14:10

There are quite a few branches of this chain, dh likes their coffee. I think it's a tacky name but I guess I'm not the target audience.

SundayRoast1234 · 08/06/2024 14:11

They do great coffee so I ignore the name!

WitsEnd10 · 08/06/2024 14:24

Is it actually Fuckoffee? Or F’coffee, like the one near me?

AyrshireTryer · 08/06/2024 14:32

I couldn't give a French Connection UK.
