Ironing Bed Covers

Sorry not very exciting I know Blush.

But if you hang your bed covers on the line outside to dry do you iron them before putting away? And if you don't do they look like a 'crushed rag' (my wee mum
Used to say this) when you put them back on the bed?

I always iron them once dry but genuinely thinking I just can't be arsed anymore but if needs must.

I do because I want to get into a bed with ironed bedding (not sheets though) so I'm willing to put in the time.
Likewise, I iron clothes because I prefer that and am willing to put the time in.

I iron my family's clothes because I'm willing to put the time in, it's my preference. They like it too but probably wouldn't do it for themselves!

CountryShepherd · 07/06/2024 07:16

I used to. But now I just don't bother - they just get slept in and no one sees them! I bought a few sets of Seasalt cotton bedding and I convince myself that they're meant to look 'relaxed'

Fizbosshoes · 07/06/2024 07:19

I iron all bedding, sometimes it feels like a faff but I do prefer the look and feel of it when it's on the bed.

I used to be a bit ironing obsessed but I bother far less and the world hasn't stopped turning. I do iron school uniform and DH work trousers, (he wears non iron cashmere style sweaters) plus anything linen - I have a few standards!

Enko · 07/06/2024 07:20

I iron bedding as it feels so much better to get into. For me ironed bedding us a luxury that I want in my life.

Also I agree with your mum @Queenofwistfulthinking

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 07/06/2024 07:24

I’ve never ironed bedding and it’s genuinely not once occurred to me to do such a thing. Must result from what you grew up with. Sounds like it would be a right faff. Washing and drying them regularly is enough work as it is.

Aria20 · 07/06/2024 07:30

Mine which are cotton yes I iron them as soon as they are dry either from line or tumble dryer and then straight back on bed otherwise they'd look terrible.

The kids - nope give them a shake and straight back on the beds. They look fine but their bedding isn't expensive cotton so doesn't look creased.

HeadacheEarthquake · 07/06/2024 07:34

Webhave textured pillowcases so no, bedsheets no as you don't see it and it generally stretches out anyway.

Hate duvet covers anyway so we switched to nightowl coverless duvets and we are never looking back.

I don't even know where the iron is and I'm pretty happy with that.

My mother ironed literally everything- even tea towels. The ironing basket was always piled high and she spent hours stood at the ironing board - she wouldn't even sit down to do it. Even when I was quite young I used to do a bit for her to help out.
Since being an adult I only iron what I think really needs it but have generally ironed bedding. Not always though.
My adult son, who lives alone, never irons anything. He manages to look perfectly OK despite this.

junebirthdaygirl · 07/06/2024 07:39

I throw them into the dryer for 10 minutes...keep an eye..and they are perfect with no creases.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 07/06/2024 07:41

Depends on the set, if it looks a crumpled mess then yes but if I think I can get away with it then I would not bother. Also no to ironing tea towels, underwear or anything pointless like that. I iron clothes that need it, sometimes just fold teen DCs as they are not bothered. Life is too short.

Boogiemam · 07/06/2024 07:43

Never have, never will.

Maddy70 · 07/06/2024 07:46

I hang mine on the inside doors. TÄ¥ey dry really quickly and never need ironing no idea where my iron actually is

Towerofsong · 07/06/2024 07:49

If I take them out of washing machine quickly, shake them well and hang them neatly on the line they don't end up very creased so I don't iron.
But if I tumble dry them they look awful and I have to iron them.
Mine are all cotton.

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 07/06/2024 07:53

God no, what a waste of time when you are going to sleep on them. Just buy the type you don't need to iron!

Chasingsquirrels · 07/06/2024 07:54

I have, very occasionally, ironed bed linen. Not for years and years though and I only did it very infrequently back then.

Now, I very rarely iron anything. I brought a new iron in 2020, and I doubt I've used it more than 5 times in 4 years.

I air dry, on an airer. Rarely use the tumble drier.

EnchantedElf · 07/06/2024 07:56

I’ve got cotton bedding, it came off the line yesterday a bit creased, put it straight on the bed, no creases this morning after sleeping in the bed.
life’s too short to be ironing things no one else will see.

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 07/06/2024 07:56

Although I have an aversion to ironing after spending hours ironing pointless stuff (like tea towels) as a kid.

I probably now only get the ironing board out every 6 months and only if there is something that you can't get away with not ironing like shirts

As a household we just don't really buy or wear things that need it, and I am not ironing stuff that doesn't!

Gettingbysomehow · 07/06/2024 07:57

I used to iron all bed coverings until I realised I was verging on OCD so I bought a coverless duvet and now only iron pillow cases.

ShorterWorkingYear · 07/06/2024 08:02

Boogiemam · 07/06/2024 07:43

Never have, never will.

Same here. Not a priority.

SpringerFall · 07/06/2024 08:04

No I cant say the need has ever arisen

Jegersur · 07/06/2024 08:05

I’ve never ironed a duvet cover.

thanKyouaIMee · 07/06/2024 08:11

I don't iron anymore - I steam when they're on the bed! Looks fantastic and half the effort!

LazyDaisyCat · 07/06/2024 08:12

Nope, ain't nobody got time for ironing bedding!

Bringthejury1 · 07/06/2024 08:13

Isn't there some sort of spray you can spray onto bedding that gets rid of all the creases??
