I loved The Sopranos, Line of Duty, The Walking Dead (early seasons) Motherland, Catastrophe.

When I was much younger - Dallas, Dynasty, The Young Ones. Widows (Lynda La Plante series) me and my sister were obsessed with a tv show called Beauty and the Beast - we used to get a big bottle of wine and watch it every Friday night 😂 it was wierd but strangely compelling and we loved it!

mambojambodothetango · 06/06/2024 22:49

Hard to choose just one - but Mad Men is up there. Only slightly behind would be The White Lotus and Succession. Comedy-wise Call My Agent. But if I think back over the series I loved from the 80s, 90s and 00s I would add Blackadder, ER and Pride & Prejudice.

buzzy1 · 06/06/2024 22:51

I May Destroy You was outstanding

This thread is really making me want to watch Dark but I'm really unsophisticated and hate subtitles?! Do I stand a chance?!

Well it's pretty baffling in parts, but the characters are compelling so you just get caught up in their stories. The music is also terrific.

I'd recommend watching with subtitles on if you can, since the English dubbing is not good. And don't be tempted to Google it before you finish - it's easily spoilerised.

GoofyIsACow · 06/06/2024 22:52

Schitts Creek
The Sopranos

Cooper77 · 06/06/2024 22:54

The Office (the original British series) was just perfect. A genuine work of art. So good it was painful.

The first series of Alan Partridge (where he had an actual chat show and finished by shooting a guest).

Brideshead Revisited was pretty good.

I Claudius is one of the best things the BBC ever made.

The Day Today

I also have a soft spot for This Country, mainly because I so like the characters.

Goingasteady30 · 06/06/2024 22:58

Line of Duty. Not really into serials like that but demolished all the series during lockdown.

Also An Idiot Abroad. I friggin loved that show.

LondonLass61 · 06/06/2024 22:58

Six Feet Under
MASH
Frasier
Phoenix Nights
Max and Paddy
Seaside Hotel - danish series

pietut · 06/06/2024 23:04

@PaperSheet @zaxxon thank you both, I will give it a go! I have to admit there are so many Scandinavian series that look so tempting in adverts, maybe watching The Dark will teach me how to watch and enjoy subtitles! (I know it's not Scandinavian!)

MaybeNotBob · 06/06/2024 21:54

Ooh, yes, Dark Angel! That was brilliant. It sort of jumped the shark in the last series, which is probably why it was cancelled before we actually got to a denouement.

i always wondered what manticore stage 3 would of been
and as for season two, they did not have the main characters from season 1 that made the show the show so to speak,

MrBallensWife · 06/06/2024 23:13

Everybody Loves Raymond
Charmed (original,not the remake)
The Walking Dead

Spicymarg2024 · 06/06/2024 23:23
