Dark
Succession

Walking Dead before Rick goes
these are just perfect

Catsmere · 10/06/2024 01:02

Foyle's War
Pride and Prejudice 1995
Ted and Alice
Black Books
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet
MASH
Sleepers (1991 series with Nigel Havers and Warren Clarke)
In the Red
Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister
Time Team

There are others I loved in their earlier series - New Tricks, ER, The Bill, Due South but they lost me later on with stupid plots (the bomb at Sunhill nick 🙄) and cast changes.

loveyouradvice · 11/06/2024 18:52

Me -
Slow Horses

I have to rewatch every year.
I started in English, moved to Spanish with subtitles in English, then Spanish with subtitles in Spanish, now can get by with just Spanish. (Dusting down old degree)
He's a million times sexier in his own language.

I only ever watch a film/series in the original language as I like to try and see what I might be able to understand/pick up. (With English subtitles, of course!)
I hope that doesn’t make me sound pretentious 🤦‍♀️😂

(although I do like your Spanish subtitles method!)
But yes, he is HOT!

Some proper blasts from the past in here!

Kudos to whoever mentioned This Life, that was absolutely brilliant.

Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Friends
Gavin and Stacey
P&P 1995 BBC version

Blackadder
Frasier
Black Mirror
Boys from the black stuff
The singing detective
Only fools and horses
Auf Weidersehen, Pet

Your thoughts about Ashes to Ashes are absolutely correct. Keeley Hawes' character was so simpering and pathetic but my god I love Gene Hunt.

Me!

Great choice, a perfect bit of 90s drama. I got the DVDs somewhere.

It made me think of other cool things around that time as it was mostly other comedies for me. Later on were NY-LON, and I always liked Teachers too.

mitogoshi · 13/06/2024 21:48

Bluestone 42, Mash, W1A/2012, on comedy front though also young ones, Ab Fab, mighty boosh thinking about it!

On serious drama, we watch Shetland, Vera, House, Mad Men

xigris · 13/06/2024 22:08

Twin Peaks
The X-Files
Casualty (but the Charlie and Duffy era)
No Angels
ER
Rizzoli and Isles
Killing Eve
24
Scrubs
Deadloch

Bobbotgegrinch · 13/06/2024 22:24

Firefly
Buffy
Orphan Black
Battlestar Galactica (The reboot)

What can I say, I like my sci fi!

So do I! I regularly rewatch it. So, so clever and funny!

Did you see In the Red? Warren Clarke as a boozy radio reporter, a by-election, a hopeless political party led by Richard Griffiths, a series of murders of bank managers, plotting at the BBC, Stephen Fry, Alun Armstrong, Rik Mayall, Rebecca Front, Richard Wilson ... it's another one I watch a couple of times a year.

ZazieBeth · 14/06/2024 00:14

Anxious People
Solsidan
Bonus Family
Bron/Broen
The Last of Us

I have remembered one that was bonkers but brilliant, the Danish tv series The Kingdom.

That was such a mad programme! But really fun. It's quite old now - I watched it in the 90s. Not sure how well it would hold up today. But it had some unforgettable moments (which I won't describe because spoilers, but ... a birth scene ...!!!!)

Looking back, it was ahead of its time in being the fully realised vision of its showrunner, Lars Von Trier. Mainstream (American) TV wouldn't really buy into that model till much later.

CharSiu · 14/06/2024 11:11

@CassandraProphesying the 12 Days of Christine affected me in a way that I didn’t think was possible. Forget Oscar winning films it was beyond amazing.

The Inbetweeners
Bluestone 42
Ashes to Ashes
Line of Duty
Ozark
Peep Show
Happy Valley

DustyMaiden · 14/06/2024 11:17

Call the midwife, though I thought I’d hate it.
Downton Abbey
succession
Anne of Green Gables in the 70s

worriedgal · 14/06/2024 11:22

If I'm completely honest 1980's Dynasty- my teenage self adored it !
Not sure anything can top the weekly anticipation of the next episode .

ZazieBeth · 14/06/2024 11:56

I meant A Very British Coup before not House of Cards!

I’ve got it recorded. Almost don’t want to watch it again in case it’s not as good as I remembered. Had a thing for Jack Davenport at the time.

TheOriginalFrench · 14/06/2024 15:11

Completely forgot!

P-Valley

When S2 ended I thought I’d die of withdrawal. Still longing for the next season. A work of genius.
