Aaah, yes, Detectorists makes me so happy.

I only gave it a go after seeing it mentioned a few times on a MN thread very similar to this one. So glad I did.

DamsonDress · 06/06/2024 21:00

Oh goodness, how could I forget This is England?! Possibly the most moving TV I've seen.

@FuckTheClubUp you should try Devious Maids if you haven't already. Very similar vibe to Desperate Housewives.

For storyline and drama (strong Nordic noir theme here)
• Breaking Bad
• The Last of Us
• Stranger Things
• Forbrydelsen
• Fortitude
• The Terror
• Being Human
• The Chestnut Man

And if I just want a guaranteed giggle:
• Bottom
• Peep Show
• I’m Alan Partridge
• Only Fools and Horses

There was a drama series decades ago (90's?) called Jakes Progress with Robert Lindsay and Julie Walters, written by Alan Bleasdale. It was incredibly dark but I remember being captivated by it. I still think about all these years later.

More recent and a lot more lighthearted: Last Tango in Halifax. It's just perfect.

Yes to Jakes Progress! It was really creepy in parts wasn't it. That little boy was a terrific actor too.

Namechange746498 · 06/06/2024 21:15

Top 5 (in that there's pretty much no bad seasons):

The Americans
Breaking Bad
Buffy
Firefly
The Vampire Diaries

Notable runner ups (with stand-out seasons, but also may be some awful ones!):

The Handmaid's Tale
Line of Duty
Hannibal

paisley256 · 06/06/2024 21:16

My all time favourite is always going to be Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Also love Dexter, Frasier and Motherland. Can I add Say Yes To The Dress Too? 🤣🤣
