Slow horses. Gary old man is phenomenal. Just truly fantastic. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Definitely The Forsyte Saga (1960s version) - think my mind was forged in the heat of all that smouldering passion. (My parents used to chase me out of the room if I somehow managed to still be downstairs when it came on.)

Steptoe & Son. Caught a glimpse of an episode recently and was astonished at how powerful it still is.

Original Poldark was the proverbial emotional roller coaster.

The Singing Detective - as outstanding and revolutionary in the 20th c as I May Destroy You in the 21st c.

Have you all forgotten - or perhaps have never seen Ultraviolet. I can’t even find the words to describe it. Just extraordinary storytelling, and wonderful cast.

This Life.

Queer as Folk.

Star Trek; Deep Space Nine.

Over lockdown - My Brilliant Friend, absolutely excoriating.

Buffy.

Doctor Who, especially Steven Moffat’s epic Matt Smith era story arc.

Years and Years.

Last Tango / Happy Valley

LOD

GOT

Money Heist

The Wire, Detectorists, MadMen, Chernobyl, The Bear, Succession - total perfection.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/06/2024 03:04

ER
The West Wing
House
Slow Horses

And on the very retro side - The Adventure Game. It would look so naff now but with current computer wizardry a reboot would be epic.

Schitts Creek
24 - watched the early series weekly, fantastic
Chancer - I was a teenager and this was the first show I remember loving

Scorchio84 · 07/06/2024 06:17

@MooseBeTimeForSnow HOW could I have left out ER? I think it' still on Chan4 (E4) online?

cuckyplunt · 07/06/2024 06:22

I was obsessed with “Logan’s Run” as a teenager in the 70s. So guess it would be that.
Also love the early series of “Red Dwarf”.

Line of Duty
Buffy The Vampire Slayer (rewatched this in lockdown from start to finish and was as good as if not better than I remember)

MariaVT65 · 07/06/2024 06:50

So glad to see i’m not the only one who absolutely loves Desperate Housewives!

Loved it as a teenager and now i have kids it’s really interesting watching it back and identifying with Lynette in Season 1.

Also love Frasier and Friends.

OperationPushkin · 07/06/2024 06:57

The Americans
The West Wing (first 4 seasons)
Brideshead Revisited
I’ll Fly Away (American series from the 90s)
The Bridge
Happy Valley
A French Village

For pure comfort viewing, the original version of All Creatures Great and Small. I can’t get on with the new version at all.

CormorantStrikesBack · 07/06/2024 07:17

When people say The Bridge, which one? The original? I haven’t seen either. Is the original in English?

zaxxon · 07/06/2024 07:54

It's just dawned on me that for my entire life I've thought The OA and The OC were the same programme

Got to be the original, it has English subtitles.

Definitely the original Swedish/Danish version. There have been several other series made based on the original premise: UK/France, US/Mexico, Russia/Estonia, etc. But the Swedish/Danish one is the best of all that I've seen, especially the first two seasons with Kim Bodnia.
