Just that really. Will he be found?

Do you not worry that your children / parents can’t get in touch with you in an emergency

Obviously it's best to keep your loved ones within eyeshot at all times, for the ultimate safety, but some of us do take a risk sometimes.

Scorchio84 · 06/06/2024 17:27

Oh no... doesn't sound like this will have a happy outcome, he seemed a nice person too, his poor family

Massive speculation here but I wonder if he was fasting and fainted with the heat and exertion.

Love dark humour 😂

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/06/2024 17:29

I may have watched too many crime dramas, but another useful feature of mobile phones is that police can track the last place the phone pinged a mast (not sure I have the terminology right there, but you get the gist).

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 06/06/2024 17:29

Has anyone actually read any of the news reports that say he left his phone behind on the beach, presumably accidentally, so all this talk of having his phone on him is moot.

PickAChew · 06/06/2024 17:32

Leaving his phone behind stood out to me. That's especially worrying.

I can also imagine a scenario wheee someone who is very into health and mental wellbeing going off for a walk leaving their phone behind, as a digital detox type of thing.

Due to safety reasons it isn't something I'd do, and would discourage any friends/family from doing so if walking alone,

Not sure if you ever watched the Joe Wicks documentary, but it was clear that he felt the need to reply to the many, many heart-felt DM’s he received not just every day but every hour and this was to the detriment of his family life and own mental health. I’d imagine Dr Mosley was in a similar position - and it’s a very different experience from being a normal Joe Bloggs with the local neighbourhood/family/class parent WhatsApp group pinging all of the time - and even those can feel a bit overwhelming if you are in the wrong frame of mind. He was walking with friends until he unexpectedly wasn’t - it does sound like an unfortunate set of circumstances have collided here.

That may well have happened. It is quite hot there right now. 30 degrees C NOW at half six at night!

MidnightMeltdown · 06/06/2024 17:33

He's 67. He has no doubt lived the majority of his life without a mobile phone. Seems perfectly reasonable that he might have forgotten it.

Might be different if he was 27

ALongHardWinter · 06/06/2024 17:33

Oh gosh that's worrying. I really like him,as a PP said,he's so supportive of people with weight problems. Hope he's found very soon.

It's crazy to me that people can't imagine 5 minutes away from their phone, even on holiday. I don't even own a mobile phone so when I go off for long dog walks alone I don't have one. I'm in my 40's.

Agreed. And the Island is small. I wouldn't bother taking mine on a walk there either.

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 06/06/2024 17:34

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 06/06/2024 17:08

I agree. No-one I know would go off for a long walk (knowing they were going to be away a number of hours,) and not take their phone. Just wouldn't happen. Very odd thing to do. Only time I don't take mine is if I am popping out somewhere for just 5-10 minutes.

Do you only know a tny number of people, I can't imagine knowing any fact about all of the hundreds of people I know. How does that even come about and are they all so rigid in behavior, never deviate?

It is isn't it? Unless, he was just planning on going for a very short walk. As I said earlier, if I was popping off/popping out for say, 10-15 minutes, then I don't always take my phone.

Oaktree55 · 06/06/2024 17:35

Tabloids reporting he was seen in town talking to others post the coastal walk according to witnesses. Curious.

Velvian · 06/06/2024 17:39

I'm wondering if the 'his phone was found' (at the place they were staying) implies that he had it on him when he left his wife at the beach. Is that an implication that he had walked to town and returned back to the house before going missing.

Well that's good. Maybe he fell asleep somewhere.

LaBelleEtLeBadBoy · 06/06/2024 17:20

Are people still going on about phones 🫤

It might well be somewhere with poor or non existent reception so leaving your phone behind isn’t strange at all.

quizzys · 06/06/2024 17:45

I apologise in advance for my morbid curiosity. I do hope there is a positive outcome to this.

I'm a bit confused about the timeline. What was the situation - did he go to the beach, go back for his phone when he realised he hadn't got it?

At first I thought heart attack or an accident, not sure now. It all sounds a bit odd.

But obviously I hope for the best for him and his family.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 06/06/2024 17:47

Very worrying. His poor family must be beside themselves.

I really don't think it's at all strange or worrying.

  1. maybe he forgot it (we've all done it)
  2. maybe he deliberately left it at the house. Think of all the calls and messages he must get as a media personality. Yes you can put it on do not disturb but the temptation to check is always there. Sometimes you just want to switch off from it all.
  3. he'd been to the beach with his wife then left the beach to have a walk. I usually don't take my phone to the beach because it gets sandy and knowing me I'll drop it in a rock pool or something. Therefore I'm not surprised he didn't have his phone on him

People seem to relish speculation and drama "Oh he didn't have his phone. So suspicious". I find this type of speculation very distasteful.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 06/06/2024 17:49

Details are fairly scant at the moment. Police said he set off from the beach to walk back and left his phone on the beach. Apparently the BBC said the phone was found back in town with his wife. It's not clear whether he set off to walk back with his friends and/or his wife or set off alone leaving his phone behind with them - in which case his wife would presumably have brought it back, making the BBC article accurate but misleading. Or else something has been misreported.

I just really hope he's ok. He seems like such a nice guy.

That’s what I thought it seemed like. He left friends on the walk home to return to the beach to get it. Then made it home and dropped it off.

Unless some of the info is inaccurate.

Lucimaya · 06/06/2024 17:54

Oh no, I've always enjoyed his programmes and books. Fingers crossed for him.

Wheresthebeach · 06/06/2024 17:56

Worrying that he was reported missing last night, and they've not found him yet. Hopefully waiting for rescue somewhere...

TerfTalking · 06/06/2024 17:59

PrimalLass · 06/06/2024 15:17

Because by the look of it he went walking alone in the heat on a rocky and steep coastal path. Taking a phone would be the sensible thing to do.

Edited

I agree. I walk the dog at a lot of remote and forestry areas, I’m 57, and whilst I find taking my phone a pain to carry around with poo bags, car keys and water bottle, I do. The terrain can be unsteady and the dog is strong. I always put my phone in a little bag and have What Three Words App, just in case.

This is very worrying, thoughts are with his family for a safe return.
