Just that really. Will he be found?

This is going to turn into Nicola Bulley again. When people mysteriously disappear into thin air near water, it’s because they’ve gone into
the water. It takes a few days to find them because water is deep, murky and has unpredictable currents and tides. Very sad and upsetting for his family but there is no mystery here.

So - you admit that it's NOT classed as a high-five emoji!

You have literally stated that there was an attempt to make it a high-five emoji many years ago, but people didn't get it/didn't accept it. So it is now universally known as a PRAYER emoji, (and has been for many years!) just like most people have been saying on here!

How embarrassing for you! 😆

.

Type in high five and it comes up. As it does if you type in pray. But it’s not what this thread is about, so you can keep arguing with yourself and behave like a child.

Quite a few people have mentioned that he is an experienced hiker. Sadly it is often fit experienced hikers who are more likely to get into trouble. They are more confident in their abilities and would think it is just a short walk home. Someone like me in my sixties who is fat would have taken the bus as people like me are not at all confident in our ability to walk that path in strong heat with no shade.
So I am sure Michael thought like some on here. I am only in my sixties, I am fit and its a short walk so I will be fine.
There is little vegetation, but there are plenty of places where he could be hidden in the walk. He might have gone to sit in the shade of a large boulder off the path. Or he may have went into the water to try and cool down.

It is really stretching it to call it a hike. I think the term has thrown folks. It was a 2 mile on a safe and well used route. So what’s that 40 mins?

But 67 is elderly. No matter what anyone says, a person who is just a couple of years off their 70s, IS going to be more vulnerable than someone say, in their 20s, 30s, or even 40s. It's not 'ageist' to state this extremely obvious fact.

Even when there is a flu virus going around, the medical experts say that older people (over 65 usually) will be much more likely to be seriously ill from it, than someone who is only say, 20-45.

Why do people get so upset and angry at people stating facts, just because it's about someone a bit older? Confused I find this very bizarre attitude on here a lot. Never see it in real life.

67 is not old!

i have an aunt who is 69 who just ran a half marathon.

How old are you out of interest?

The dogs are usually very efficient so they will find him if he's had an accident.

I can't stand him, awful man but he has a wife and family so it's them I feel for.

Wtf is wrong with you?

MattDamon · 07/06/2024 11:43

Local journo says he told his wife/friends he wasn't feeling well before leaving to walk back.

Can you people arguing about fucking emoji’s please start your own thread you are clogging this one up with it!

Prayers (🙏🏼!!) for MM. I believe divers are looking in the water now. This tiny island has been scoured I believe it’s most likely he’s in the sea. I really hope not.

Also we are not just looking at his age. We are looking at what he was trying to do at his age.

He wasn't trying to run a marathon.

He went for a walk. At 67.

All medical professionals will confirm to yoy t
that people at the age of 67 are able to go for a walk.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I cannot beleive anyone is arguing over emojis in the thread.

and I also think the only reasonable explanation is he has sadly went in the water,

SwingingPonytail · 07/06/2024 11:46

67 is not elderly. FGS! I am older than that and not remotely elderly.

The retirement age now is 67.

I read somewhere recently that 'elderly' is considered 75+.

I think that would be you and @CaptainHaddocksPychotherapist derailing the thread.

MyQuaintDog · 07/06/2024 11:48

@Theweepywillow two miles is a long way in strong heat, especially if unknowingly you are already beginning to be affected by heat stroke.

FiveFoxes · 07/06/2024 11:48

Transient Global Amnesia (when he lost his memory after swimming) isn't a medical condition. It's a one off thing that can happen to anyone at any time. There is no evidence that those who have had it are any more likely than any one else to have it again.

I know because it happened to my child when they were 8. I did a lot of asking questions and researching afterwards.

Also Michael Mosley is neither elderly nor frail. His lifestyle probably makes him a lot healthier than most people. That doesn't make him immune to medical incidents though.

I really really hope he has just taken a small tumble and will be found soon. He seems like a nice man and has a lovely voice on his podcasts.

I’m struggling to understand this too. Is this poster thinking of a different person?? How can anyone not ‘stand’ this inoffensive, kind, warm friendly doctor who has helped thousands??

I think they might be thinking of Max Mosley.

It's some people who are in their 20s and 30s on here, who seem to think that 67 is elderly.

I read an interesting study once, where it said that young people have a very skewed perception of age.

They have not experienced being older. So they think that people in their 60s are barely able to get out of a chair, and can barely move.

When in fact people in their sixties walk long distances, run marathons and hike mountains.

A woman in her 80s just travelled all round the world by herself recently.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 06/06/2024 13:07

DH and I spent a really miserable year on a Greek island. Surprising how many people were reported missing. Usual outcome was falls resulting in injury and they were found so really hope there’s a positive outcome to this.

Out of curiosity which island and why were you miserable?

SwingingPonytail · 07/06/2024 11:51

MyQuaintDog · 07/06/2024 11:48

You are older.

I think the 'argument' is that someone of 67 was 'elderly' and shouldn't be out walking.

No one should be out walking in 40C around midday - not even a 30 year old unless they simply have to - and are well equipped with the right clothing, litres of water and are fit.

A lot of 67 year olds are fitter than obese 45 year olds.

Theweepywillow · 07/06/2024 11:52

MyQuaintDog · 07/06/2024 11:48

possibly, but we need to remember he wasn’t in some isolated place, h4 was on a very public path which is used heavily by locals and tourists , so if he was ill someone would have seen him, and they didn’t.

divers are joining the search, so it would seem the authority’s are now thinking also he went in the water, and for reasons to be determined. I think in such a small place and in such a public place, if he was on land, or had fallen ill someone would have seen him.

Oaktree55 · 07/06/2024 11:52

A lot of people on this thread are underestimating what heat can do. It’s predicted to feel 48c there today in sun and people here are saying it’s only 2km walk! He may have earned his living from selling health but he was not healthy himself with obviously a family history of dying relatively young. They were both medically trained his behaviour was over confident not sensible given his own particular circumstances.

@CaptainHaddocksPychotherapist Most people use it as prayer. Never seen anyone personally use it as high five

Sorry to prolong this discussion as it’s not hugely important, but I can see why you’d think it was a high-five emoji, as the hands look similar to how a high five looks, @CaptainHaddocksPychotherapist . I’ve always interpreted/used it as the prayer emoji though - as have many others. It’s also occurred to me that both hands and sleeves are exactly the same colour, and if it was a high-five, wouldn’t the two hands look different and have different clothes, to show they’re two people high-fiving each other?

SwingingPonytail · 07/06/2024 11:54

I wonder if he decided to take a dip in the sea on his walk as it was so hot and had some kind of medical incident?
