Madeleine McCann new evidence - BREAKING NEWS

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 05/06/2024 18:58

A Senior German detective has told a court that investigators had found emails on a Hotmail account used by Christian Brueckner that linked him directly to the Madeleine McCann case.

However, the detective was unable to share details of the evidence as it was 'related to the killing' of Madeleine. Brueckner, the prime suspect, is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes.

As someone said up thread people talk like they are experts but can’t even get the basic facts right like where the mccanns are from which isn’t South Yorkshire

It was the dogs that were from South Yorkshire. But the poster was right they weren’t just random police dogs.

I know parents of that time who would have / did leave their children in similar circumstances to the McCanns and others who wouldn’t.

I always felt that my children were more precious to me than £100,000 in cash (for example) and, if I wouldn’t leave £100,000 in cash on the bed in an unlocked appartment then why would I leave a child?

I was however definitely seen as overprotective when my husband and I would share hotel rooms with our children when they were small rather than putting them in a room on their own

I'm not saying it would be a good idea to leave a child in an unlocked apartment but your comparison to leaving cash is deeply flawed.

Unless extremely rich already, most people would like £100,000 in cash, and anyone with thieving tendencies would take it, including passing opportunists. Once stolen, it would be difficult to trace, so a thief wouldn't think twice and many people might feel some temptation, especially if struggling financially, even if they didn't succumb to it.

The same can't be said of abducting a child; it's simply not something the vast majority would think of doing, or feel the slightest temptation to do if a random opportunity presented itself.

Do leave it out. You are simply mistaken. If no-one did this, why did so many hotels offer the room listening service?

Hand on heart, can you honestly say that you are a perfect parent and a perfect human being who has never made a mistake in your life?

You don't have to be a 'perfect parent' or never have made a mistake in your life to be sure you would never leave 2 babies and a toddler alone in a foreign country while you went out for the night. Ridiculous of you to suggest so. It was negligent and absolutely astounding thst they have never admitted they were wrong to do so. If they had cared adequately for that child, she wouldn't be dead, thats the top and bottom of it. Most people don't even leave passports/cash/phones in a hotel room and go out, never mind their own children!

The post says

“Yes specifically by South Yorkshire police where the McCanns are from.”

so the basic facts are wrong

dancinfeet · 06/06/2024 08:03

Madeleine was a year older than my youngest daughter, there is no way I would have left my children alone in a hotel room then, even travelling as a single parent- I wouldn’t have even just nipped down to reception leaving the children in the room alone. I remember being really shocked at the time that the parents thought it was ok to leave their sleeping children and go for a meal, but I also think that these people blaming the parents or worse still, accusing the parents are awful. They paid a terrible price for their decision.

Where they are from has nothing to do with the dogs though. It’s irrelevant.

Also, having spoken to a number of Portuguese people, let me tell you that they have a very different view of what happened that night.

So what? What makes the opinion of some other people who weren't there any more reliable than that of the German police? Singularly pointless comment.

ilovesushi · 06/06/2024 08:06

Her poor family must be in a living hell. What ever new information comes out is sure to bring more pain but hopefully they can move towards some sort of closure.

To convict a person, in the UK anyway, you need to prove beyond all reasonable doubt the defendant committed the crime. It may be he could worm his way out of these emails and they need something more concrete to be able to prosecute him. Either way they shouldn't have released this information to the public domain as his defence could say he won't get a fair trial.

The proof of guilt is no longer "beyond reasonable doubt" the jury "has to be sure" that the defendant is gulty of the offence so the evidence has to be stronger to convict.

As a parent who had children a similar age in the 90s/00s it was considered ok to eat very close to our apartment and regularly check. It was normal and never on our radar that a weirdo would steal our child.

Have to say I completely disagree with this comment. My DD was 3 months younger than Madeline, I also had a son who was 2 at the time and would never ever have left either one of them alone in an apartment. It was not considered an ok thing to do then just as it isnt now. Not blaming the parents, they have suffered the ultimate price for their mistake but not on any planet would it be ok to leave such young kids alone.

My daughter is under 2 months younger. The year before madeleine went missing, I was at a mates wedding in a small country hotel. She’d booked the entire place and all the bedrooms out. It was pre the days of monitoring devices with cameras linked to your mobile phone. Once she went to bed, we took turns to sit with my just turned 2 year old. Just on the basis she might wake up not at home or feel unwell etc.

They were some distance from the apartment, left the doors unlocked to creep in easily to check and had 2 younger kids in there who were both under 2. I think they made a monumentally bad group decision.

Cornishclio · 06/06/2024 08:09

A vile man and I hope they finally have closure. My children were born late 80s and we never left them alone when on holiday so I do think they made a mistake which they and Madeline paid a heavy price for. I feel so sorry for them.

Worse than pointless, it's ridiculous.

Alwaysalwayscold · 06/06/2024 08:09

This case didn't happen in the 70s. At the time this happened the general opinion from the public was shock that the children had been left alone, so for the vast majority that obviously wasn't "normal" as people are desperate to say.

dayswithaY · 06/06/2024 08:12

It doesn’t make you a perfect parent to just not leave your babies alone in an unlocked apartment while you go drinking - it’s basic parenting, surely?

I genuinely don’t know anyone who did this but as the McCanns were with a group of friends who all thought it was a good idea, I can see how it happened- peer pressure, safety in numbers maybe.

What didn’t help was when Gerry said it was the same as eating in the garden while the children slept in the house.

But you do have to be a perfect parent or to have never made a mistake to sit around smugly slinging accusations at two people who have gone through and are still living through the worst nightmare any parent can imagine. They make a mistake that thousands of other people made. I ask again, can you honestly say you have never made a mistake? Do you think you deserve to have a load of virtue-signalling strangers rehashing your mistake over and over again and essentially saying someone else's dreadful crime was your fault?

I’ve got to say I was a child of that period and my parents wouldn’t have thought twice about doing something similar to what the McCanns did and they weren’t in anyway the only ones.

I'm going back to the late 80's,but not only did my parents leave us in two hotel rooms, they fucked off over a mile to the nearest pub

One night they did it and came back to a 'pissed up blonde woman who was smoking'

She'd come in and found an unlocked room, got into bed and my parents found her a few hours later-what pissed them off was the fact she was having a fag in their room

Nothing happened-she was slung out into the street and it became a 'funny' story for years to come

It certainly didn't stop them going back out the following night

My parents denied it happened as soon as this case happened and where the most heavily judgemental of the parents!

I thought the script was that Scotland Yard detectives conveniently discover new evidence at this time of the year that necessitates golf clubs to be packed a trip to the Algarve for investigation.
interesting to critique the police.
No mention of the fact she was left alone
would anything have happened if she hadn’t been
Place ire where it should be

The same applies to you, place blame where it needs to be: the criminal who kidnapped or killed the kid.

Parents make mistakes, but they didn’t kill their child.

Being sure isn't a different standard of proof, it's the language now used so juries fully understand what is expected of them. That's what the judge told us when I did jury service. There hasn't been a change in the law or evidential standards.

Cattyisbatty · 06/06/2024 08:16

My DCs were also a similar age and we wouldn’t have done that. The worst we did was baby listening at a ‘family’ hotel in a fairly remote location in the UK. I cringe at that now but we were in the building at least.

Well yes let's focus on that rather than the murderer/abductor.

”sure beyond a reasonable doubt” or “100% sure” if it’s 100% sure I’m suprised anyone ever gets convicted, when I did jury services the barristers were so good on both sides that even if you were almost sure they were guilty they’d always thing there was the tiniest chance maybe not

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/06/2024 08:22

From LexisNexis: In criminal cases, the appropriate standard of proof is beyond reasonable doubt (or, in other words, whether the tribunal of fact can be sure that the relevant facts have been proved).

Oaktree55 · 06/06/2024 08:23

What people are missing is say a parent lost a child because they put that child in the car unrestrained no car seat or belt etc there’d naturally be repercussions. They were negligent but not so much as an apology or expression of regret publicly. Yes on the 80’s we were all unrestrained as kids in cars doesn’t make it normal to do now!
