Madeleine McCann new evidence - BREAKING NEWS

A Senior German detective has told a court that investigators had found emails on a Hotmail account used by Christian Brueckner that linked him directly to the Madeleine McCann case.

However, the detective was unable to share details of the evidence as it was 'related to the killing' of Madeleine. Brueckner, the prime suspect, is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes.

Thing is, you could put your kids to bed in a regular old house and some maniac could sneak over the hedge and climb up to the bedroom window even while you are there in the house itself. Perhaps not in a small house where you are more aware of sounds from other parts of the building, but in a big house, absolutely.

When I think of the kind of big, spread-out, one-storey bungalows/ranch houses with large plots that are popular in the United States and Australia, I feel that it would be very easy to abduct a child, much easier than from a high-up window of a hotel building with all that security knocking about; in big bungalows/ranch houses, the bedrooms are on the ground floor and a child’s bedroom could potentially be a long way from the kitchen in horizontal terms.

I, like the rest of the world am unsure but it sure was odd, and having children in the 90's I never left them alone on holiday or ever. It really wasn't "the done thing". I don't know a single person who did, and I went on a lot of holidays.

Re the above:

I remember a discussion with a couple who are friends of ours - we are in Tokyo, by the way. They used to go out to the bar across the street from their small townhouse and leave their child alone in bed from quite a young age.

I remember being a bit “Oh….ah!?” And my face probably gave away the fact that I was a bit shocked.

But, as they pointed out, they could physically SEE into their child’s bedroom from the bar window (they left her curtains half open so they could see her face). They could also see the front of the house, which was the only way to get into the house as the other side of the house had only tiny windows that are too tiny for anyone to crawl through. And, well, if you think about it squarely, the situation was therefore technically safer than someone in a big house who just goes and has a drink in the kitchen, leaving their sleeping child alone at the other end of the building.

Rambling a bit, but this kind of thing is why I do hesitate to judge parents “leaving their child,” as it gets a bit grey-area-ish when you factor in the fact that in a lot of houses, a child could actually be abducted (or get injured etc.) while you are physically there in the same building….

I agree that it was normal. It was standard practice for hotels and resorts to offer a listening service which was basically whoever was on reception having baby monitor receivers next to them. If they heard crying they went and got the parents. This service was offered at 5* resorts all over the world.

It was the typical procedure therefore to leave the kids in the room whilst parents went to dinner.

The McCann's and friends did one better by actually checking in regularly.

I’m sure I read that the McCann’s didn’t use the listening service.
And you’re saying they did one better?
None of that group did better that week.

My dd was born in 1984.
We never left him. Ever.
I can remember sitting in a horel room wishing we could go to the bar but neither of us would contemplate leaving a child on their own.

Every parent’s nightmare. Poor little soul.

For all those saying they would not leave a child alone It was extremely common at Mark Warner to the point they had a wandering babysitter service who would go and listen at doors for crying in the early 2000s.

I thought they were from Leicester?

TinySmol · 06/06/2024 04:48

While the whole thing is tragic and a little girl went missing and is now presumed dead, I have to ask -
why do the McCanns get so much airtime?

What makes these parents different to the other parents of missing children -who do not get a look in?
Is it because they are rich and white? Is it because the females are blonde?
What is it?
I don't know.

Also, having spoken to a number of Portuguese people, let me tell you that they have a very different view of what happened that night.

@XiCi wasn't there something about the wardrobe as well? I go backwards and forwards on this case, but it has to be said that Kate McCanns book was very weird and inappropriate in places (not read it but seen some very odd quotes from reviews of it) which did make me think WTF about her. Abductions by strangers are pretty rare.

You seem to be making some big accusations based on something you’ve never read.

Maybe read the book and make your own judgements rather than take someone else’s version of things with evidence that they’ve used selectively in order to sell a narrative?

They're not going to hear any crying if the child's been kidnapped, are they? As has been said on virtually every thread allowed to stand (which, tbf, have been few) over the years.

Madeleine McCann's parents have paid enough of a price for their decision. I'm sure nobody who doesn't buy into conspiracy theories still thinks they had any involvement in her disappearance beyond that one tiny decision which will haunt them to their graves.

But, no. It might have been a normal thing to do for them. It remains a far from normal thing for the vast majority of parents. On holiday in particular.

Kate McCann is from Liverpool. Gerry is Scottish. They lived and worked in Leicester.

Abductions may be rare, but robberies in tourist areas are not. It is crazy to leave your apartment unlocked, never mind leaving your tiny children alone in it.

My sympathy is for that poor child. I hope she gets closure and justice.

I agree. I hope the poor baby can have justice finally.

Thanks, I don’t know much about it but I thought so.

It strikes me that there are people on here (and presumably in real life too) talking as if they’re experts but basing opinions on incorrect or incomplete information.

Heirian · 06/06/2024 05:17

@TinySmol unoriginal observation. People are allowed to care if they wish.

Alwaysalwayscold · 06/06/2024 05:51

The attention (and ££) this case receives makes me so angry.

There are so many missing people who barely even get looked into. It's so unfair.

I got the feeling that whilst Christian Brueckner is a wrong 'un, he is being made a scapegoat.

Despite these alleged emails they still haven't charged him.

Why would the German police want to make him a scapegoat?

Madeleine is not German so they are not under any political or social pressure to solve this case - I can only assume that they have evidence that he is somehow involved and are working away at the case.

The McCanns aren’t from South Yorkshire, they live in Leicestershire and did so at the time of the abduction, she’s originally from Merseyside and he’s Scottish

hotpotlover · 06/06/2024 06:07

There's likely a technical reason why they haven't been able to charge him yet. The evidence is probably quite strong.

DanceSingandhavefun · 06/06/2024 06:15

I was on holiday abroad recently and we stayed in a family room in a hotel. It was basically 2 rooms in one with a sliding door that separated. I remember thinking when I was lying in bed what if someone came in the room as the kids were closer to the main door of the room. I would never leave them alone especially at night. I think the McCann's have paid the ultimate price however and it must be unbearable.

I don’t want to know…absolutely sickening that this creature is still alive!
I think about her parents regularly and they were destroyed that day .
They didn’t do anything wrong apart from a bad call leaving her at the apartment.
As a parent who had children a similar age in the 90s/00s it was considered ok to eat very close to our apartment and regularly check. It was normal and never on our radar that a weirdo would steal our child.

And we had concrete bases under the play equipment, no seatbelts, parents smoking in car and indoors, sexual discrimination...
Leaving a child at night, alone, whatever the decade, is wrong

milveycrohn · 06/06/2024 06:37

Whatever else, this case has highlighted the danger of leaving your child/children alone in this kind of apartment building.
I suspect this happened because ALL the other couples in their group left their children as well. Sort of 'group behaviour'. No doubt a psychologist would know more about this.
I have noted that on the continent it is more usual to take young children with you when eating out.
Nowadays in the UK, it is becoming more common, with families eating earlier than normal. And those without children eating a big later.
Generally, we opted for self catering when our children were young, as it avoided this.
Personally, I do NOT think the McCanns had anything to do with her disappearance. I think it was initially a burglary that went wrong.

LlynTegid · 06/06/2024 07:03

We should think of the siblings of Madeleine above all, who have had to go through their childhood without their sister. They were left alone as well, and I am sure at some point must have thought it could have been them.

Viviennemary · 06/06/2024 07:04

So many false leads and rumours over the years. Always new evidence uncovered that eventually comes to nothing.

FarmerJilly · 06/06/2024 07:05

There is something about this case that brings out the very worst in people. My heart goes out to the parents- first having the worst thing ever happen to your family, second having half the world blame you. In so sorry for them and hope this German guy gets convicted
