Madeleine McCann new evidence - BREAKING NEWS

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 05/06/2024 18:58

A Senior German detective has told a court that investigators had found emails on a Hotmail account used by Christian Brueckner that linked him directly to the Madeleine McCann case.

However, the detective was unable to share details of the evidence as it was 'related to the killing' of Madeleine. Brueckner, the prime suspect, is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes.

But it was normal enough in 2007 that it was offered in hotels across the world by more than one holiday company. Lots of people wouldn’t have done it but lots of people would. That’s why these threads always go round in circles on it. Just because everyone in your social circle would/wouldn’t have done it doesn’t mean that everyone is the same.

Not leaving them on their own. That was never okay. The hotel offered a different service.

Not leaving 3 young children alone in a dark apartment with the door open

You have little sympathy? How disgusting. My heart aches for them whenever I see a picture of Madeline. They made a huge huge mistake that they are paying for every day, especially after reading what kind of awful things he’s done to other people. Of course they shouldn’t have left her but I’m sure they know that now. No parent deserves this

I agree. I think it reflects terribly on anyone to have little sympathy for the parents.

I have a child the same age as MM. I am middle class and would have gone on the same sort of holiday and have been to Portugal many times. I'm afraid it was NOT normal/acceptable to do what MM's parents (and their whole friendship group remember) did re. leaving a 3 year old and babies in an unlocked appartment to go out for the evening so I really would like to put this argument to bed now finally. It doesn't mean I blame them for what happened - the perpetrator is to blame for this just like any crime. But I cannot accept the narrative that parents were more slack a mere 20 years ago. It just isn't the case.

People have been having this pointless discussion since the day it happened, if it was ever going to end it would have done so by now

Can you explain why it matters whether it was normal or not?

As a parent who had children a similar age in the 90s/00s it was considered ok to eat very close to our apartment and regularly check. It was normal and never on our radar that a weirdo would steal our child.

Have to say I completely disagree with this comment. My DD was 3 months younger than Madeline, I also had a son who was 2 at the time and would never ever have left either one of them alone in an apartment. It was not considered an ok thing to do then just as it isnt now. Not blaming the parents, they have suffered the ultimate price for their mistake but not on any planet would it be ok to leave such young kids alone.

I agree, even if someone dosent steal your child there are other things to think off.

There may be a fire, there maybe unwell, they may have an accident.
You don't leave three young children alone it was neglectful.

Absolutely right. I was a holiday rep in the 00s and the kids reps for all the major tour ops did a babysitting service. Depending on age and resort it was either apartment checks every 15 - 20 mins or in the kids club. The kids reps worked on a rota system for it as it was a compulsory part of their evening duties, as opposed to the nights out which were a compulsory part of youth/mainline rep evening duties.

Some people didn't want to use it, for others it was the only time they got to spend a couple of hours having a well deserved meal out as a couple 🤷‍♀️

Alot can happen in 15 or 20 mins.
Go on holiday with your children, take them with you.

Well yes let's focus on that rather than the murderer/abductor.

Nobody is ‘focusing’ on it. But it is a fact that had she not been left on her own, she would still be here. Of course everyone would like to see the abductor caught.

We once left our 5 and 2 year old in a hotel room six floors up while we grabbed a bite to eat in the restaurant downstairs - if anyone would like to report me for neglect feel free. And while you’re at it report my parents who left me alone at night as an 8 year old in a b & b when though drove to a nearby town for dinner - they were gone hours! Terrible judgement in retrospect to say that no one ever did what the McCanns and their friends did is just utter rubbish.

You had a baby monitor and so coud hear anything going on in the room. Did you leave the room unlocked next to a road ad a pool?

It’s not actually a fact at all, if you look a child abductions, James Bulger was with his mother; there were other children in Portugal snatched from the beach.

And, anyway, so what? She was, now she’s dead, the thread is about the culprit, why are you trying to make ego kibbles out of a particularly gruesome murder?

We don’t know that she has been murdered and of course there is still always hope.

setitup · 06/06/2024 21:35

Sorry, can someone explain why this is breaking news? Is there confirmation of anything? Also am I right in thinking he’s not necessarily facing charges for Madeline but other crimes at the moment?

Go on holiday with your children, take them with you.

That is people's choice though. If they are in a secure resort and are happy to have someone look in on the kids and then come to find them at one of the restaurants if there's an issue, that's their business.

Februaryfeels · 06/06/2024 21:45

There is something really creepy about the people that act as if they have the case solved and know the truth when in reality they spend their lives down sordid and sad rabbit holes.

I wonder if anyone remembers Caroline Hogg. Just a year older than Madeleine McCann. Did her mother receive similar vitriol. Same with Ben Needham's grandmother. Should she have been arrested for neglect

The poor family and that poor child.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 06/06/2024 21:51

My experience is that it was a thing back in the 90s amongst British parents to leave children alone in hotel rooms with a working baby monitor, while they dined on site but a short distance away. I remember English friends (very conscientious parents otherwise) telling me they chose they holiday hotels on friends’ recommendations that their U.K. baby monitor worked well there.

But it is immaterial; the only person to be blamed is the perpetrator of the crime and who abducted MM. No doubt the parents have endlessly blamed themselves since and there’s no need for us to do it.

Onomatofear · 06/06/2024 21:57

Workhardcryharder · 06/06/2024 20:06

???? But it was normal and very common.

The opinion that it was “negligent” is subjective. Things were different nearly 20 years ago, and although many people would have thought it wasn’t appropriate back then, plenty thought it was fine.

There are lots of things we do now that will be seen as negligent in 20 years.

This is such bollocks. Things were not different 20 years ago. My children are 22, 20, 15 and 4 and when my oldest children were little and we were on holiday in a similar place to the McCanns, it would have been considered madness in my circles to leave children of any age in an apartment.

Where are the people who are acting as though they have the case solved, can you point us to them? Or are you talking about a phenomenon outside of this thread?

Ok then: why are you making ego kibbles out of a particularly gruesome child abduction?

Of course you weren’t, that’s the whole point of the video.

Read the post a few up about how that video maker reckons the Manchester arena bombing didn’t happen, then tell me you still think he’s a reliable sort of chap.

That Richard guy does come out with a lot of crazy stuff, I'll agree with you there. But the same can't be said about statement analyst Peter Hyatt. He's worked with law enforcement and government agencies in the USA so I'd say he's pretty credible.

boobyandthebeast · 06/06/2024 22:08

I can't imagine that anyone here is going to engage with a term as imbecilic as 'ego kibbles'.

Really? You might want to look up the meaning of the word “imbecile”.

Ego kibbles is a well-used MN phrase. Even better it doesn’t insult people with learning difficulties.

It's because of cases like that that we now know there are evil bastards out there who target children. I grew up in the 80s. Perverts were rife, and molestation was common, but no one talked about it. No one talked about paedophiles.

You can't say that was still the case in 2007. The sex offenders register was introduced in 1997. CRB checks started in 2002. We stopped being careless and carefree with our children's safety a long, long time ago.

Serrina · 06/06/2024 22:22

We don't know for certain what happened. We may never know what happened.

But one thing we do know, is that the McCanns behave very, very oddly. And before* *anyone jumps on me saying "nobody knows how they'd behave in their shoes, there's no right or wrong way to be" etc etc, yes, I know that. But they don't behave like any other parents of missing or deceased children I've ever seen. Something just seems rather... strange. I'm just going to leave it at that.

pinkstripeycat · 06/06/2024 22:25

I don’t think leaving a child alone in the 90/00s was a sign of those times at all. I think it depends on the family.

DH and I both born 1970. MIL obviously used to leave DH and his sibling all the time. My mum wouldn’t have dreamt if it.

When Madeline went missing my MIL said “Well who hasn’t left their children asleep and gone to a neighbours for a glass of wine?”

My mum said definitely not her, ever! It’s too dangerous.

I had kids in 2000s. DSis had kids in 1990s. Neither of us EVER left our kids alone in the house day or night but I’m sure plenty of people did.

OneFrenchEgg · 06/06/2024 22:26

It really isn't

God that phrase and 'I won't say anything else' etc etc just spit it out or can you not own your own theory about how they accidentally drugged her/sold her/kept her in a fridge da da da
