Madeleine McCann new evidence - BREAKING NEWS

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 05/06/2024 18:58

A Senior German detective has told a court that investigators had found emails on a Hotmail account used by Christian Brueckner that linked him directly to the Madeleine McCann case.

However, the detective was unable to share details of the evidence as it was 'related to the killing' of Madeleine. Brueckner, the prime suspect, is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes.

I don’t think the focus this case has had has anything to do with the parents class. It attracted attention because it was strange in the way Maddie completely vanished and no one saw anything, and the parents have done a lot to keep the investigation going and keep it on everyone’s minds.
I hope this new development comes to something. That Portuguese policeman who wrote the book accusing the parents should be thoroughly ashamed.

I think the McCann's have more than paid for their decision and have to live with the consequences every day. I hope we can keep the thread on track as I'm interested in seeing how this case develops and hope it doesn't get deleted.

THIS!

Hope they've got enough to charge him. Police has suspected this guy for a while now.

Yes, he's been on the radar for a very long time and it's not quite clear why things haven't progressed. There will be people saying there's no "proof" but you don't need proof to charge someone and interview them. Has this happened? I forget - I'll go and google.

I actually think its a very good idea to KEEP saying actually no its not normal.
Young parents nowadays, well god forbid they think its ok.
Its not, its dangerous and it should be repeated over and over.
One would think it common sense, but its not OK to leave a 3 yr old and 2 babies on their own while you eat and drink elswhere with your mates in a foreign country.
Maybe some parents never heard of Madeleine mcCann , and need to be told, eh this can actually be dangerous.
Dont bloody do it, cos the stuff of nightmares, can actually happen.

It was a lovely tapas meal though tbf.

Kate was a gp, Gerry isn’t a gp

You missed the point 😂 there was public outrage and then when it came out the negligent, irresponsible parents in question were of a “better” social standing it all changed.

Did it? There seems to still be a fair amount of public outrage now whenever the subject comes up.

Well if the parents want all the focus to be on the monster who stole their child, instead of them, they could always stop doing interviews on multiple talk shows and suing anyone who questions anything they say.

The McCanns haven’t appeared on TV or sued anyone for many years, what are you on about?

GiganticArkReadywithHottub · 06/06/2024 13:56

I think they made a very huge mistake but who hasn't as a parent? I sent my six year old alone into a very busy bookshop in a railway station as I had a lot of bags with me. It was a moment of misjudgment, coupled with stress, coupled with lack of sleep. She could have easily been grabbed and taken on a train to anywhere in Europe.
The McCanns will never have peace. Yes they did a silly thing. It will eat them up forever. I think I would struggle to live with that. Surely it's punishment enough.

Crikeyalmighty · 06/06/2024 13:58

@gotmyknickersinatwist @Nopet unfortunately I agree with nopet on that it was suprisingly common - certainly on holidays I went on. A lot of putting kids to bed in hotel rooms at 7.30 and both parents going to check alternatively every 20 minutes too was common- along with baby listening done by reception- I'm not saying it was right and this case certainly I think probably brought it to a close- but the idea it was a rarity isn't true. I saw it happen on big Eurocamp type places too - which in a way is even worse as kids could easily just wander out.

If I can also comment about the fact that you still get many parents (some of whom would no doubt be judgmental about the McCanns and be having them sentenced to 30 years ) letting quite young kids wander around hotel receptions and bars and lounges playing around relatively unsupervised - whilst the parents often have one too many. I've seen that happen even recently - or kids playing around with lifts- some as young as 4 or 5 .

They made an error of judgement in what they presumed to be a safe space and have paid for it ever since. That surely is punishment enough . I also think the initial investigation was awful-

I think a certain type of 'lynch em' simply didn't believe them because they were posh and clearly comfortably off and she wasn't in floods of tears in an Eastenders way- people can react differently when in shock . we do see it on mumsnet too- people hating on others just because they appear to be doing ok

It's an awfully tragic case and for the parents sake I hope that their is a resolution of some kind

I thought the script was that Scotland Yard detectives conveniently discover new evidence at this time of the year that necessitates golf clubs to be packed a trip to the Algarve for investigation.
interesting to critique the police.
No mention of the fact she was left alone
would anything have happened if she hadn’t been
Place ire where it should be

Two things can be true; that her parents were negligent and the police like a jolly.

It’s akin to those idiots who say a woman who was wearing a short skirt deserved it. Gross.

No. It's akin to saying parents who put their 3-year-old in a short skirt and then leave her to walk alone in a park in the middle of the night so they can go off for a drink are negligent.

Not one person blames the victim. The victim is Madeleine, btw. Not her parents.

Madeleine’s whole family have suffered 17 years of agony, of course they are victims too.

The only person (s) who knows what happened to MM is the one (s) who saw her last. And they’re not telling!

Ben Needham’s dm was never given the help and publicity she deserved in the first few weeks because she was a young single dm working in a local hotel.
British class system at its finest!

But that isn't the McCann's fault. Obviously they took every ounce of help and publicity they could get. Wouldn't you if your child was missing? I can't imagine anyone not doing so.

It was also important to not that is was a different time from the Ben Needham case. Media and round the clock news has changed massively over the years, including in the years between those two children going missing,

SweetcornFritter · 06/06/2024 14:05

What are you on about? That case against Amaral was brought many, many years ago. The McCanns won it many years ago, it then went to apeal and the ECHR a process which took more years (thanks to the International pandemic). Perhaps it’s you who hasn’t been paying attention. When was the last time you saw the McCanns being interviewed on TV?

Edited

They started it many years ago and it has run and run. They have also shut down other professionals, much more recently if they tried to publish their thoughts on the case if any of what they said went against the McCanns in any way.

People donated to Madeleine’s fund to try to find her. I’m pretty sure they did not intend to help her parents continually sue people.

Alondra · 06/06/2024 14:11

One thing that the Madeleine's abduction highlighted was parents should never, ever, leave small children on a holiday, on their own, even if they are sleeping and doing random checks.

Emergencies, like a fire can happen. A child can wake up, open a door and wander off. There are too many dangers for little ones in case something goes wrong.

Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece... are all countries used to have small children with their parents until very late. It's completely normal to see little munchkins until 10 or 11 pm without anyone batting an eyelid.

I feel so sorry for Madeleine's parents. Living with regrets must be beyond horrible.

I’ve never read that book so can’t comment on it but there are lots of ways that comments can be taken out of context to make them seem odd and change the meaning.

A really well known one was a theatre poster which had a quote of something along the lines of ‘…the best show ever’ and the full quote was something like ‘this would never be described as the best show ever’. I have a friend who is an academic author and marked an assignment by a student which cited her research as reported by someone else and got the key message completely wrong. The article the student had used had misreported the findings.

These things happen which is why it’s never a good idea take take second and third hand information as fact. Particularly in legal situations.

Keep trying Dog: The quote referred to is vile and, taken in context or out of context, the graphic description didn’t need to be in the book. Kate could have shared her fears for Madeleine without describing in detail what she imagined her injuries to be.

OK, so on what date did the McCanns last bring a legal action against someone?

Her editor clearly didn’t share your opinion. Kate was describing the horror of her intrusive thoughts, it was a real, shared experience that was no doubt meant to shock and upset the reader, in order to give a brief glimpse of the torment parents face in such appalling situations. Do try not to fixate on it, it’s so childish.

"I asked Gerry apprehensively if he'd had any really horrible thoughts or visions of Madeleine. He nodded. Haltingly, I told him about the awful pictures that scrolled through my head of her perfect little genitals torn apart"

This quote?

Sure, I’m not sure I’d have written it so graphically, but I am not going to judge her for it. Imagine having that intruding on your brain constantly. She was being brutally and heartbreakingly honest about the vilest thoughts that were stopping her from sleeping at night.

This is the kind of groundbreaking thing that really needs saying in this case. I’m indebted to you for raising it.

3luckystars · 06/06/2024 14:20

Come off it. This is another dead end.

The parents didn’t just make a ‘bad call’, they did crazy stuff afterwards too, and continued to.

Onomatofear · 06/06/2024 10:35

Have you not noticed all the posts on this thread which say that leaving tiny children alone in an hotel room is a normal thing to do?

No. I have seen lots of posts saying that at the time it was considered normal in that particular type of holiday. Those kind of Mark Warner holidays were set up with baby listening at that time.

I don't think it's common practice now since that awful experience of the McCanns. I don't think people are promoting this as the way to parent. They are just saying it happened then and to keep treating the McCann's as some kind of monsters is unnecessary. They've suffered enough.

That doesn't mean that a parent who leaves their child alone now should be congratulated and told to carry on. It also does not mean that it's the right thing to do to continue to villify the McCanns. That's not the same as validating their original decision.

sprigatito · 06/06/2024 14:23

I am always surprised by the reaction to that quote from Kate McCann. Yes, it's disturbing, but having your child go missing, with a strong possibility that she will be assaulted and murdered, is going to make some horrific things cross your mind. It's so far outside the experience of most of us that it's difficult to read, but for me it's not that great an imaginative leap. I can remember looking at my toddlers' perfect little bodies and thinking they were the most beautiful things in the world. Intrusive thoughts like the one Kate wrote about aren't surprising to me and I think it says nothing about her character other than that she was a mother in unimaginable hell.

3luckystars · 06/06/2024 14:26

Yes but I saw them in an interview later, she looked haunted.

But she never said ‘this is what she would look like now, we are still searching for her’

Because she knows.
