Madeleine McCann new evidence - BREAKING NEWS

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 05/06/2024 18:58

A Senior German detective has told a court that investigators had found emails on a Hotmail account used by Christian Brueckner that linked him directly to the Madeleine McCann case.

However, the detective was unable to share details of the evidence as it was 'related to the killing' of Madeleine. Brueckner, the prime suspect, is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes.

@XiCi Madeleine wasn’t hurt by being in the apartment with her siblings, she was harmed by the monster who thought he could steal a child. The two acts are not comparable. Every time you say it’s the parents fault you are detracting from the vile creature who stole a child. Do you not understand? It’s akin to those idiots who say a woman who was wearing a short skirt deserved it. Gross.

Well if the parents want all the focus to be on the monster who stole their child, instead of them, they could always stop doing interviews on multiple talk shows and suing anyone who questions anything they say.

Rollinghilly · 06/06/2024 11:10

To the posters who are stating how they wouldn’t have acted as the McCanns did, just cop on.

They have suffered and acknowledge that they shouldn’t have done it. In her book Kate said she was uncomfortable at the time but put her concerns to the back of her head.

I haven’t done exactly this but I have been in situations where group think takes over and only afterwards you think ‘should I have done that, was it actually safe’
I’ve been on large group/ family holidays with kids and to be honest, there is always an element of group think and throw in holidays , sunshine and alcohol, it’s surprising not more accidents happen in these situations.

Oh, stop the press! This internet sleuth has cracked the case from the comfort of their living room armchair.

Have you let the police know?

Well that says way more about you than about the McCanns. What does it achieve apart from putting you on your high horse.

Do you not have an ounce of compassion for people who have suffered so much? I don't get why being on your moral high ground is a nicer place to be than one of compassion and support for cruelly bereaved parents.

However, no-one will have judged the McCanns more than the McCanns. I hope they have some peace now.

Of course I have compassion for them. Nobody deserves what happened to them. However, that doesn't make what they did any less negligent.

I always felt that the family were probably being watched in the run up to Madeleine being taken. Chilling.

I’ve never been in the “parents did it” camp, why on earth would they relentlessly and publicly pursue the investigation for years on end, if they killed her? You’d think they’d keep their heads down and hope it faded away, but no.

People love a conspiracy theory, sadly.

I don't think the McCanns had anything to do with the disappearance of their daughter.

Some awful troll sent thousands of abusive'' tweets''-someone called ''sweepyface'' who turned out to be an older woman,
who later died by her own hand.

She can't have been well to have been so obsessed with the McCann case.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/06/2024 11:14

You’re hypothesising about things that didn’t happen. What DID happen was a sick man stole a child

Is that what happened, DelusionalBrilliance ... ?
As said I don't pretend to know either way, but it seems a little ironic to insist someone else is hypothesising and then do exactly the same

If you were spending your entire life trying to find your baby who has been stolen from you, likely raped or tortured and murdered, you should sit back quietly whilst the world accuses you of killing them, and never speak publicly to keep awareness of Madeline instead stay silent and let the world forget about it all. Got it.

Superfans · 06/06/2024 11:15

Who are young children most in danger from statistically? Does class blind people to realities and truth? Once a narrative becomes publically accepted it is hard to change particularly if powerful or high profile people are involved. Mumsnet has a particular demographic which means people are broadly sympathetic to middle class doctor couple but that doesn’t make it correct or truthful. On the balance of probabilities I suspect the parents know exactly what happened to Madeleine (likely accidental death), the Portuguese police also know. Perhaps the truth will be revealed in time.

How dare they remain stubborn and resilient in their search, eh.

They really ought to consider how uncomfortable their resilience and determination makes some people feel.

Regarding the lack of a babysitter for the McCann children.

When the disappearance of Madeleine first hit the headlines ''I bet it's a single parent from a rough background who is out partying leaving her children unsupervised''

{My own bias}

When it came to light that it was two GP's {well paid and one would assume cognisant of risk of children left alone} I was really shocked as to why they too that risk.

Having said that..my own middle class parents did leave me in a tent on a French camp site as a 7 yr old when they went to the Camp site Bar- but probably asked the people in the next tent to keep an eye on me.

I don't remember being scared, but was glad when they came back.

A number of years ago I was on a very large, very busy campsite in France and at 11.30pm
at the entertainment area/bar I spotted 3 children crying. Oldest was maybe 7 and they had lost their 3 year old sister/ cousin. I brought them
back to their mobile (very close) where the parents and friends were drinking on the deck. Of course total panic ensued but the extremely upset toddler was quickly found.

I was still up with my friend and our older kids but the husbands were back with the younger ones from about 10pm. We were not perfect parents by any stretch and I cringe when I think of the times I left them in the pool and didn’t always have eyes on them, but I was aghast that anyone would consider this ok.

The parents clearly got caught up
in the drinks and the fun and kids having fun together - when the reality was it was very dangerous

... the parents have tried to silence anyone who questions their version of what happened

Indeed, @Onomatofear, and while that's understandable with outright accusations and some of the worst speculation, we simply don't know if any other motivation exists for the "shutting down"

Trouble is, when people don't know some make things up to fill the gap and it isn't necessarily helpful

By the same token, we simply don't know if any other motive exists for some of the more batshit comments about the parents being responsible.

katepilar · 06/06/2024 11:21

Could someone more knowledgeable please explain, how do they find emails after such a long time? I do understand that they sit somewhere on the net but how do they track them down?

DressOrSkirt · 06/06/2024 11:24

Madeline is the victim, not her parents, and everyone that let her down should be held responsible.
We don't know what happened, but we do know her parents were at best negligent, and anyone excusing that needs to give their head a wobble.

Onomatofear · 06/06/2024 11:28

SloaneStreetVandal · 06/06/2024 11:17

How dare they remain stubborn and resilient in their search, eh.

They really ought to consider how uncomfortable their resilience and determination makes some people feel.

The people they sue are experts who have no axe to grind with the McCanns but do have professional experience of cases that involve child abductions. If they try to explain their considered views on what may or may not have happened and why, they are immediately silenced.

This is unusual behaviour. That does not mean that I think the McCanns are bad people, or that I don’t think they’ve suffered.

But the only reason why they have been able to sue everyone who questions them is because of the money they’ve made from the Madeleine fund and other publicity.

Mamette · 06/06/2024 11:30

I'm always amazed how many people think their personal judgement on the behaviour of the parents actually matters. These threads always go the same way.

It’s a defence mechanism/ self soothing reflex. “Well I would never do that, so therefore something like this would never happen to me/ my child”.

ageratum1 · 06/06/2024 11:32

Several years ago the story broke about an email where he wrote 'mm' in response to a comment about a ch I ld rape or murder and questions were asked as to whether , it was an abbreviation for madeleine McConnell or like mmhmm response.
I wonder it the just a rehash of that story

We don't know what happened, but we do know her parents were at best negligent, and anyone excusing that needs to give their head a wobble.

I think Esther McVey (lifelong friend of Kate McCann) excuses that negligence, hence why I think she was unfit to be the so-called minister for common sense.

Quite right, and as mentioned I can fully understand the parents wanting to shut down some of the worst speculation and accusations whether they were involved or not

What I'm not sure about though is why, in a world where children sadly go missing every day, this particular case continues to receive the official attention and funding it does

Of course that's not to say it shouldn't be investigated - just to wonder what makes this unique in still being such a hot topic 17 years later

An accusation that the quote from the book was effing weird? It was for any normal person, there is no denying that. I don't need to read the book, there's no context where what she wrote would be ok and not completely inappropriate. That's my judgement. Unless you're denying she actually wrote it and all the people who did read it and have repeated the quote are somehow lying.

I’ve never read that book so can’t comment on it but there are lots of ways that comments can be taken out of context to make them seem odd and change the meaning.

A really well known one was a theatre poster which had a quote of something along the lines of ‘…the best show ever’ and the full quote was something like ‘this would never be described as the best show ever’. I have a friend who is an academic author and marked an assignment by a student which cited her research as reported by someone else and got the key message completely wrong. The article the student had used had misreported the findings.

These things happen which is why it’s never a good idea take take second and third hand information as fact. Particularly in legal situations.

Psychoticbreak · 05/06/2024 23:26

@itspreposterous he does and he looks like the person who raped woman and abused children in the same area too and they are the ones currently going to trial and seeing this man every day. The victims in court right now and the last few months are the ones that are effectively helping the McCanns but again nobody is talking about them instead.

Probably because the cases are subjudice.

I think it's the timing as much as anything. This all happened as social media was coming in, and when the 24 news cycle was well established. There are people who've cited Kerry Needham more approvingly, but the biggest difference between her and the McCanns is that she lost her child when trial by internet wasn't yet a possibility. There was simply a lot more news coverage to be filled up by 2007.

And because it was such a huge story, the whole thing turned into a cottage industry. Books, websites, money made.

Who cares? That is not what this thread is about.

Please can all the supposedly perfect parents round here take their halos elsewhere?

Edited

I care.
A lot.
And christ your standards are low if "not leaving a 3 yr old and 2 babies alone" is perfect parenting.
