A Senior German detective has told a court that investigators had found emails on a Hotmail account used by Christian Brueckner that linked him directly to the Madeleine McCann case.

However, the detective was unable to share details of the evidence as it was 'related to the killing' of Madeleine. Brueckner, the prime suspect, is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes.

It was the fault of whoever took and murdered her. Let's not continue this cheap victim blaming because where does it stop

This.

All the nasty, smug "I would never..." people need to stop it.

Do leave it out. You are simply mistaken. If no-one did this, why did so many hotels offer the room listening service?

Hand on heart, can you honestly say that you are a perfect parent and a perfect human being who has never made a mistake in your life?

They weren't in a hotel. It was an apartment outside the complex where they dined.

You see it every tragedy on news parents saying please don’t do x,y,z as they’ve lost a child. I’d say they’re unusual not doing same.

Every tragedy? Good luck proving that one. But that's not an answer to the question, in any case. Be specific about what they should do, and what use it would be too. After all, whether they like it or not, they've clearly served as a very strong example that what they did was a bad idea.

It is not normal, or acceptable to leave three children alone. They were tiny! Madeline was 3 and her siblings just over 12 months. Babies! It is outrageous that people defend that neglect on here.

All we know, for certain, is that had the parents not prioritised dinner and drinks with their friends over their children's safety and wellbeing, this poor poor girl would not have come to harm.

Kate wrote in her book that Madeliene has asked her that morning why 'you and daddy didn't come when Sean and I were crying'.

Imagine hearing that from your three year old and STILL leave them a few hours later. Never mind the abductor. Your tiny babies asked you why
you didn't come to comfort them when they were crying. Yet you decide that wine and tapas takes priority only a few hours later? It is abhorrent and if a black couple had made that decision they would have had their children removed.
It is heinous neglect.

No I cant. I am by know means perfect. But there is no way I would leave my three tiny children on their own to have tapas and wine.

I’d hazard a guess that the delays and sticking points are because of a situation where yes CB is guilty of what is alleged but it will just raise another issue . I don’t want to detail exactly what I think as I would assume it’s not allowed. I don’t think the parents are guilty of harming her apart from being negligent but I think maybe uncovering a situation led to panic

What are you trying to say? If it is what I think, it is a ludicrous, provocative suggestion.

Alwaysalwayscold · 06/06/2024 08:35

No but maybe at least equal (or more) resources spent on finding missing people who weren't lost due to their parents leaving them alone in a foreign country.

Which is clearly not within the remit of Gerry and Kate McCann. And neither are they very well placed to advocate for it, really. A good chunk of the population thinks one or both of them killed their own child, and lots more think that in some twisted way they deserve it. That sort of call for change needs to come from people who are actually respected.

Do you apply the same logic and blame to women who are attacked when walking home alone after clubbing?

gofigure5 · 06/06/2024 09:36

We left our toddlers asleep in a hotel, with a monitor (also had a listening in service).

I should say I'm a positive, not an anxious type of parent, and relaxed (and so, thankfully, are my children) but my reasoning was, if the distance is not significantly greater than it would be if I was in my garden and to the kids' bedrooms than I couldn't see the issue.

I'm not someone who goes around thinking people will kidnap or hurt my kids. I know some parents, lovely as they are, who are super protective, but that can also lead to kids being quite anxious.

I don’t want to know…absolutely sickening that this creature is still alive!
I think about her parents regularly and they were destroyed that day .
They didn’t do anything wrong apart from a bad call leaving her at the apartment.
As a parent who had children a similar age in the 90s/00s it was considered ok to eat very close to our apartment and regularly check. It was normal and never on our radar that a weirdo would steal our child.

I agree. Friends of mine often went on Mark Warner holidays, where the ethos is to let your child sleep while you had dinner. It happened all the time, the McCanns were not the first or only ones that did this

dottiedodah · 06/06/2024 09:37

I feel so terribly sorry for her family ,Kate in particular looks absolutely haunted! I think he has long been the main suspect but sadly they dont have enough evidence to charge him I guess.

SocoBateVira · 06/06/2024 09:38

While I'm aware that listening services were still commonly offered at the time, having seen the layout of the area I do think it was irrresponsible of Mark Warner to offer it there. It was a completely different setup to a hotel or contained resort. And yes, I know the McCanns didn't use it. Just an incidental point.

That's a completely different scenario.

An adult walking home after a night out should be safe, sadly many women aren't. That's not their fault.

Young children & babies in a strange unfamiliar place should not be left for any length of time by their parents.

HootyMcBooby · 06/06/2024 09:47

I hope this will prove to be the answer and bring and end to the limbo this family have been living in.
I in NO WAY advocate that they left their child alone but I cannot imagine what they have been through (and Madeleine).

What I sincerely hope also, is that the vile, horrible, smug "experts" on the case who can be found on Youtube pontificating about the McCanns "body language" and "statement analysis" which apparently "proves" they killed her or disposed of her after an accident, are made to look like the ghoulish gleeful trolls that they are. There is one particular guy who claims to be a lawyer who has a whole series of videos about the case claiming that he knows they are lying/deceptive, and the stuff he comes out with is just absolutely farcical, including picking up on specific words they might have used in interviews etc. I've no idea why he hasn't been sued into oblivion.
I hope there will be a lot of people with very red, shamed faces when this case is closed.

No it isn't. It is victim blaming pure and simple and disgusting.

Posters who keep harping on about it need to take a long hard look at themselves.

You're not going to get very far trying to extract reasoning from someone who claims not to care whether Madeline was abducted by a known rapist or not. It'd be like trying to get a chair to cook soup.

The only facts we have are that her parents are guilty of neglect and she went missing what happened between those points are anyone’s guess. As I said though I definitely don’t think they hurt or killed her. There was clearly a third party involved.

KarenOH · 06/06/2024 09:51

Even if they were at fault for presuming she was safe which is so common on holiday - think about what happened to her. Really think about a three year old no doubt being violently raped and killed. THINK about that. The absolute horror.
those parents have been punished for that lapse of judgement for a hundred lifetimes. Continuously judging them is bad enough, accusing them of murdering her is evil.

TeaGinandFags · 06/06/2024 09:51

Don't believe a word of it.

German police have been fingering Christian Brückner for years and totally failed to charge him. Now, they're spinning another yarn.

If they really did have evidence they'd be saying " Christian Brückner has been charged after new evidence has come to light", not " he did it. Really."

If I was his lawyer I'd threaten to sue for libel, despite my client being a scuzzbag.

I have little sympathy they were both in high paying jobs and chose to scrimp on the small amount it would have cost to employ a sitter. They’ve paid the price. Read the detail of his stories he wrote about his fantasy of kidnapping a young child. That poor child suffered unimaginable horrors before being murdered.

Think this is the worst thing I’ve ever read on here. You’re basically saying they deserved it? Do you have any idea of the horrors that child probably suffered and you’re saying her parents deserve that?

They shouldn’t have left the kids alone but I suspect they realise that at this point.

What an utterly reprehensible thing to say.

SammyScrounge · 06/06/2024 09:52

Igotjelly · 05/06/2024 22:04

I’ve got to say I was a child of that period and my parents wouldn’t have thought twice about doing something similar to what the McCanns did and they weren’t in anyway the only ones.

There was a journalist from, i think, the Guardian, who wrote a piece about this. She had visited Praia de Loos (?) before the Madeleine incident and recalled that lots of families left chilren asleep in their beds while they slipped out for a while..
She said that the resort was walled and felt safe and secure and there were loads of relaxed people in holiday mode. Visitors were never warned that there had been some incidents of intruders recently.
I hope the vitriolic attacks on the McCanns don't start up again. They've already been crucified several times.

As a parent in the late 90's/early 00's, it was considered normal to remain in the villa/apartment once children went to bed. It would never have entered our heads or the heads of any of our circle of friends to leave the children alone in a villa/apartment.

It never entered out heads that a weirdo might try and abduct our children but as responsible parents, we did not leave our children alone at a young age.

I’ve been to Praia Da Luz. I’ve walked past the complex and I can understand why they felt they were safe to do so.

you lower your guard on holiday.
