We've bought tickets for R2 party in the park. It's in Moor Park. I've booked a Premier Inn near B&Q Preston in Bamber Bridge. We'll have a car but would rather not take it to Moor Park and it looks like an hour on the bus with walking either end...

Are we missing a trick with somewhere else to stay where we could easily get a train to Preston and walk to the Park. Like Lytham maybe?

I don't know the area very well at all.....

there are a few independent hotels around that area

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 04/06/2024 14:05

Google street view and look up the crime stats etc and decide

Years ago someone I met at a wedding said it was a lovely place but like all areas, they have their small area which may not be as nice

link to a good read, IMO

I grew up in Preston. Moor Park is not very accessible by car at all and there's not much car parking around there.

It's a fair trot from the train station and through not great areas.

Lots of trains to Preston though as it is a big station,

Octavia64 · 04/06/2024 14:11

There's a big shopping area close ish to it - deepdale shopping centre. Gets very busy in Saturdays through and I'm not sure what their parking restrictions are.

Moor Park is next to the PNE football stadium so that's something else to consider.

CurbsideProphet · 04/06/2024 14:13

Will they be doing buses from Preston Station or car parking at Deepdale? Moor Park is not really what I would class as central and like.others have said there isn't really any parking, just residential roads.

Pedallleur · 04/06/2024 14:13

32 mins walk acc to Google maps. Its up near the football ground. there is parking in that area (residential) but it can get hectic and there will be road closures. pet Shop Boys or Sting?

LakeTiticaca · 04/06/2024 14:15

Taxi would probably be the best bet

Blackcountryexile · 04/06/2024 14:34

There's a train station at Bamber Bridge a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The 19 bus stop is on Lancaster Road in the town centre a 12 minute walk from the station which drops you outside the park.
A possible alternative is Premier Inn Preston North. The 40 and 41 buses pass there at approximately half hour intervals and stop outside the park. There aren't any shops near that hotel though.

buffyslayer · 04/06/2024 14:39

You've got the IBIS preston north, which is 2.7 miles to Moor Park

Bamber bridge is like the other side of preston

You didn’t read the OP did you..?

buffyslayer · 04/06/2024 14:41

The other one is premier inn preston east, 2.7 miles again and jump in a taxi

Jennyathemall · 04/06/2024 14:43

Drive but park at Deepdale Retail Park up the road and walk down.

It's limited to a few hours though and imagine it will be absolutely rammed and probably policed on the day for parking

That would have been a better choice....unfortunately it's now full...

It’s not anpr though so not sure how they would monitor it. Depends on the festival timings also which I’ve no idea about.
if you’re staying in Bamber Bridge I’d just get a taxi/uber

buffyslayer · 04/06/2024 15:07

If you struggle OP, I live 2.8 miles away and you can have my parking space for the day :) and get a taxi
there are streets nearby with parking but I imagine it'll get busy around there

BigDahliaFan · 04/06/2024 15:08

@buffyslayer thank you! I've managed to get into the Holiday Inn in town so it's only a walk away which should be easier...if we can find somewhere to leave the car near the hotel.

OP posts:
Blackcountryexile · 04/06/2024 15:16

There is some parking at the Holiday Inn ,a large multi storey car next door and a smaller surface one, Penny Street, across the road which is a bit cheaper.

ItsMintUpNorth · 04/06/2024 15:19

I live in lytham and struggling to decide what we will do! Would rather not drive as it will be manic to park/get away but also trains back here won't run late enough. Glad you've managed to book the holiday inn in town, there is a huge multi storey at the bus station opposite that you can park in.

Edited

Doing both days. We've got a bit of a trip to get there (combining with visit to family) so thought we'd just do both.....

Looking forward to Manics and Snow Patrol too...

I would probably go with parking close as you can and a taxi maybe

BigDahliaFan · 04/06/2024 16:04

@ItsMintUpNorth would Lytham or maybe Lytham St Anne's be a good place to stay the night before? Looking for somewhere with something nice to eat and a decent pub or two....

OP posts:
ItsMintUpNorth · 04/06/2024 16:08

@BigDahliaFan yes definitely! Lytham has a nice nightlife, loads of places to eat and a good selection of bars and pubs.
My top recs would be
The Queens - great pub food
Bangkok - Thai
Bosco - Italian
Spago - Mediterranean
And then Lytham Bierhaus, The Deacon and The Taps for drinks.

WooYa · 04/06/2024 16:12

I live near Moor Park and there's always parking available on my street

BigDahliaFan · 04/06/2024 16:14

@ItsMintUpNorth great thank you.

@WooYa even when there's a big event on?
