We've bought tickets for R2 party in the park. It's in Moor Park. I've booked a Premier Inn near B&Q Preston in Bamber Bridge. We'll have a car but would rather not take it to Moor Park and it looks like an hour on the bus with walking either end...

Are we missing a trick with somewhere else to stay where we could easily get a train to Preston and walk to the Park. Like Lytham maybe?

I don't know the area very well at all.....

@buffyslayer I've got family in Fulwood so on further thoughts might park at theirs and it will just be a half an hour walk up the a6 back to the car. Hopefully then not too bad to get out to the m55 and come home that way.

@BigDahliaFan yes definitely! Lytham has a nice nightlife, loads of places to eat and a good selection of bars and pubs.
My top recs would be
The Queens - great pub food
Bangkok - Thai
Bosco - Italian
Spago - Mediterranean
And then Lytham Bierhaus, The Deacon and The Taps for drinks.

Second that, my dad lives in st Anne's and is always out and about eating and having a beer!

WooYa · 04/06/2024 16:32

@BiBigDahliaFan yes, even when events are on. We have a few people who park here but there's not many residents with cars so there's always a space close by

RockGirl · 04/06/2024 17:10

Park at the university. They are not likely to have parking attendants on weekends.

Everythingiscalmfornow · 04/06/2024 17:49

Ashamed to admit it but when I saw the thread title the first thing I thought of was A close shave and the lovely voice of Anne Reid.

Chocolatellabgirl · 06/06/2024 18:04

Hi, following thread as I have booked 2 tickets for party in the park and live over 3 hours away. I have never been to anything like this before so I stupidly didn’t think how are we going to get there and where are we going to stay and park! So am thinking of staying in Lytham Sr Anne for 2 nights so we can see a few places as well en route/on the way back. So looking at driving in or getting bus/train? If it finishes 9.45 are they good options or a taxi which I have no idea on cost. However it will be a great experience I am sure.

Preston has Uber which is reasonable. Check out their prices.

Sleepingonamansionroof · 06/06/2024 19:09

There are hotels in Preston city centre. Don’t stay in Bamber Bridge, it’s about five miles away. Lytham is twenty odd miles away.

The area around Moor Park is quite rough. Preston city centre is a dump. Unless you have to go I’d give it a big swerve.

Chocolatellabgirl · 06/06/2024 19:39

when I looked at staying n hotels in Preston a lot of the ones within my budget were booked up which is why I am considering staying away from Preston itself. I was thinking of exploring Lytham area and possibly Liverpool on the way up or down.

FoxRedPuppy · 06/06/2024 19:43

I booked a hotel ahead of time but cocked up and managed to book it for the wrong date. I spent most of Tuesday trying to find somewhere else to stay, so you are lucky you get Holiday Inn!

The last train to Lytham on a Sunday is around 8.30pm, I'm not sure if there are plans to put on extra services.
There is the 68 bus but again I'm not sure this will run late enough unless more are put on and it also takes nearly an hour to Lytham / just over an hour to St Annes iirc.
Taxis are normally about £40 to lytham or £55 to St Anne's but assume there could be inflated fares at play.

Chocolatellabgirl · 06/06/2024 21:08

It does seem that it is going to be hard to find accommodation. I have given up for this evening.

Blackcountryexile · 06/06/2024 21:35

@Chocolatellabgirl Would you consider Lancaster? There's a bus 40 and 41 with stops outside Moor Park which goes up the A6 to Lancaster. It takes about an hour and a half to the centre of Lancaster. The last buses are 22.15 or 23.15 on Saturday and 22.00. The bus stops are on Garstang Rd which is a busy main road out of Preston and probably the "better" side although I don;t think the area is that bad. Most people around the area will be concert goers.

CurbsideProphet · 10/06/2024 08:59

I'm quite surprised Radio 2 are using Moor Park but nothing is being said about transport options / parking. Have you checked if Preston North End are playing away and opening up the stadium car park for Radio 2? There's also a school nearby who might be opening their car park for a fee, but I'm not sure how you could find out about that unless they're actively advertising it on social media.

If you're considering going up the a6 on a bus there's the delta Marriott in broughton and Barton Manor. Not budget options though.

(I'd no idea about this event... put it in my diary so I can tell DH to avoid going to Sainsbury's or deepdaleGrin)

I think there will be information regarding transport in due course, the website states transport information to come.

PiggieWig · 10/06/2024 09:30

Lytham’s nice but it’s a right trek to Preston. You can get a bus from there but will still need to walk from the bus station which will take about 20/25 mins.
I’d stay in the city centre. The Premier Inn is probably full by now but there are some independent hotels or airbnbs.
There are local cab firms (Millers, City, AAA) which you can book in advance, or there’s Uber but they will whack the prices up.

Chocolatellabgirl · 10/06/2024 12:42

After looking at Preston accommodation and nearby places everything left and Airbnb o was too expensive so have ended up booking a hotel in Blackburn hopefully about 30 mins away according to google. I have also booked just park at Sainsbury’s about 20 minutes walk from Moor Park. Never done just park either. Am crossing fingers all will work out 😳

BigDahliaFan · 10/06/2024 13:03

Having booked teh Holiday Inn for Fri, Sat and Sun are now trying to decide if we'll spend teh Friday night in Manchester instead and get the train across on Saturady monring.

Not convinced about a Friday night out in Preston.

Unless anyone has any recommendations for a nice pub/bar for 50 somethings and somewhere nice to eat.

I'm not great on venues as I'm from the old clubbing days Grin
I will say although it can be quite a rowdy night out and busy, I've never felt unsafe and I've been going out in preston for 25 years now

But a few to look at (all have FB pages)

Tipsy chef street food
Florianas
Theatre street bar and grill

Matilda1981 · 10/06/2024 13:26

Get the train from Lostock Hall or Bamber Bridge to Preston then walk from the train station to Moor Park, alternatively just book a taxi!

There are a dozen tap rooms in Preston, it's great.

Mowgli is good for food, but make sure to book.

Have a look at Chews Yard. It’s new and you’ll get food and drink there. Popular with the ‘older crowd’ but still quite cool.
