Tinned chopped tomatoes that are not all stalk and skin

Just that really…what are the best tinned tomatoes? I’ve just fished out a ton of stalk and skin from tins of Napolina and am grumpy about it. About 10 stalks in one tin! I’ve also tried M&S and Waitrose as I thought they might be a bit more “premium” alas no…they were just as bad.
Any recommendations on tins that are consistently (relatively) free from skins and stalk? I don’t mind paying more for great quality but the go-to beacons of quality have failed me.
<also are my expectations too high? 😂>

I always buy whole tin tomatoes and squish them myself. I read once they are higher grade than chopped

I've seen this recommendation many times, squeeze them by hand. It makes sense as it much easier to hide poor quality content in a tin of pre-chopped tomatoes.

Mutti or Cirio if I’ve no Mutti.

This! I’ve tried every bloody tin of tomatoes and Mutti are by far the best. They taste sublime. I buy bulk when on offer.

I've never heard of Mutti either but will have to try them now. Are they widely available?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 02/06/2024 08:02

They were recommended to me in my local butchers/deli. I haven’t looked back since. I now get them from Ocado as the deli has since closed.

Mutti always, Cirio if absolutely no Mutti available. Amazon UK often have 12 packs of Mutti for £10 or so which is a great price.

You can buy them in Waitrose - but cheapest to bulk buy on Amazon.

Honestly the most transformational food product I’ve bought, vs the cost.

It's this skin I can't handle, actually makes me gag. So I buy cheap whole plum, and dissect them myself, removing skin and stalk, then use a potato masher on them!

As they're so cheap, I use twice as many tins, but it's still cheaper than the premium brands!

CarlaH · 02/06/2024 08:21

Thanks MidnightPatrol.

RLmadmum · 02/06/2024 08:50

Mutti - I swear by these.

RampantIvy · 02/06/2024 09:55

I had never heard of Mutti either. Am off to search for some now.

lucasnorth · 02/06/2024 10:06

Biona are good too, but like Mutti they are pricey if not on offer

PieonaBarm · 02/06/2024 10:21

You can get Mutti in packs of 6 from Amazon, often cheapest place

GentlemanJohnny · 02/06/2024 10:22

Cirio. Won't have any other.

LittleG69 · 02/06/2024 10:23

I get Mutti on subscribe and save from Amazon. Currently £13.11 for 12 tins but I wouldn’t buy anything else now

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 02/06/2024 10:24

Mutti!

I also use Mutti pizza sauce when making Bolognese. Food of the gods.

BestIsWest · 02/06/2024 10:29

Depends what I’m making but Mutti or Cirio. Cirio chunks are slightly bigger than the Mutti so I use those if I want something a bit chunkier.

massistar · 02/06/2024 10:33

Mutti. They're what my Italian MIL uses.

Oldraver · 02/06/2024 11:14

I've never had stalks or skins, but usually have the Mutti on offer or passata

If I need a bit of extra juice in a dish I've been using the tinned cherry tomatoes and leaves them whole

whynosummer · 02/06/2024 11:18

Mutti, or whatever brand you're getting and then whizz them for a moment in the blender.

mitogoshi · 02/06/2024 11:20

Lidl own brand, never had an issue

Nigellasstickytoffeepudding · 02/06/2024 11:23

I have never, ever experienced this? 😲

Aldi tinned tomatoes are great and about 30p a tin.

Mutti are the best tinned tomatoes I've ever eaten, they are elite. All the years I spent buying the cheap ones I regret

SpentAll · 02/06/2024 06:24

Mutti. I get them when they are on offer. Ridiculous difference in quality, they are like a completely different product.

Yes exactly

ProfessorPeppy · 02/06/2024 11:28

I get Mutti Polpa delivered on Amazon Prime. It’s not much more expensive than cheapo tins.
