Has anyone here won money on the People's postcode Lottery?

I keep getting adverts for the Peoples Postcode Lottery. I don't play the National Lottery and I'm not tempted to play this one either.

But it did make me think about whether people do play it, do they win or is it a bit of a scam? A few of my friends have won small amounts (less than £5k) on the National Lottery but I don't know anyone who even plays this one. I'm just intrigued.

Yes I have won, quite a number of times. I do it because most of the money goes to worthy charities/many UK ones/some in my county.

I joined late 2018, and since then I have won £10 or £20 about 15 times. £25 and £50 about 7-8 times. £100 3 times, and £500 once. Nothing really big, but a few wins yeah! Oh, I have also won shopping/high street vouchers ... worth £10 to £30, maybe half a dozen times.

I do know a few people who have won £30,000, £50,000, and £100,000.

Do join @EmmaGrundyForPM Smile The money you pay goes to lots of good causes, and you have a good chance of some wins!

p.s. like several others here, I got an email today, saying I just won £12! How odd! 😆

I've won probably around 10 £10s and £100 twice. Someone DH worked with won £70,000.

I've never been tempted to do this postcode lottery. Who decides which postcode wins. Seems all a bit vague amd dodgy to me. At least with the lottery you can choose your numbers amd change them if you want to

As per their website, it’s a random selection by computer which has been tested and verified by the gambling commission.

LOL. There is nothing 'vague' or 'dodgy' about it. Why say this when you know nothing about it?! The postcodes are selected legitimately! And it’s a random selection by computer, which has been tested and verified by the gambling commission. In addition, a lot of the money raised goes to charities - and some of them will be in your own town and county.

I have won many times, (money - or shopping/high street vouchers,) and so have many people on this thread. (And most people know someone else who has won a number of times too.)

From their website

How are winners selected?

Our winning postcodes are selected via random draws using software which has been certified by a Gambling Commission-approved testing house. The software uses a random number generator to pick out winning postcodes from the postcodes players have bought a ticket to enter.

it gives a 15£ gift card when you sign up and enter your first draw

I’ve just signed up with your code - thanks. We live in a small hamlet and I’m the only person in our postcode so that bodes well doesn’t it?

Singleandproud · 21/11/2024 21:40

@Viviennemary it isn't a random thing set up on social media the Peoples Postcode Lottery in the UK and other countries that have set up divisions since has been going for 20 years and is the third highest global charity doner, raising 1 Billion pounds for 11000 charities.

By all means don't play if it's not for you, but it's not some shady, backroom scam.

ComingtoKent · 21/11/2024 21:45

I've been doing it about 3 years. I've won several prizes of books and £10. Also won £1500 a couple of years ago, so
I'm definitely quids in!

DesteB · 21/11/2024 21:48

I have won £12 twice in the last 4 weeks.

troppibambini6 · 21/11/2024 21:48

My friend won £9k. She lives near me so I've decided she got the luck 😆

TiredEyesToday · 21/11/2024 21:52

I’ve won a tenner about 8 or 9 times in 4 years. And recently a pair of wireless headphones.

Like others I do it mainly as a charity contribution- they are fantastic at supporting smaller community organizations. But also would q like a big win, obvs!

I started playing but soon stopped because there had been no winners in my area ever!

MaybeItWasMe · 23/11/2024 10:44

I’ve recently signed up. I live rurally and it looks like I’m the only player in my postcode. I can’t work out whether this increases or decreases my odds of winning as I don’t fully understand the draw process. Can anyone help…?

It doesn't change your chance of winning but means if you do win the bigger prizes you get more/all of it as don't have to share it with other winners.

Thanks.

I'm finding it a little odd that there are so many big or regular winners, and people who know big winners, posting on this thread. I don't know anyone who has won more than a few pounds or a low value voucher very occasionally.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 29/11/2024 14:04

Not exactly but I run a small charity and during the past year Postcode Lottery funded us, I think for £18,000 or so. It was very much needed. So I can confirm that it’s legitimate in terms of charitable giving.
