Has anyone here won money on the People's postcode Lottery?

I keep getting adverts for the Peoples Postcode Lottery. I don't play the National Lottery and I'm not tempted to play this one either.

But it did make me think about whether people do play it, do they win or is it a bit of a scam? A few of my friends have won small amounts (less than £5k) on the National Lottery but I don't know anyone who even plays this one. I'm just intrigued.

Godesstobe · 01/06/2024 02:44

I have won a few tenners but one of my mother's friends won several thousand pounds. I was going to stop but that persuaded me to keep going.

yumyumyumy · 01/06/2024 02:48

£10 quite a few times and a £5 M&S voucher!

Breagha1981 · 25/07/2024 16:15

Does anyone have a referral link for postcode lottery at all please? :)

Parrotseatthemall · 25/07/2024 17:24

I won over 5k last year...quite a large area did actually

treacledan71 · 25/07/2024 17:33

Silly question I know. I assume if you move you have to drop out. Is that right? Moving next year. Bet they win once I have moved.

Kitkat1523 · 25/07/2024 18:00

My BF won £1k last october

I did it for years and won zip, zero, nada! Live up north, maybe that's why?! 🤭

Why would you prefer to keep your old postcode, your new one might be luckier? The gold envelope comes to your address too, not sure how it would work if you can keep. What you win depends on how much of your postcode matches If the big winner was TW7 4NK those with TW7 4?? Will win a smaller amount

febbabies2023 · 25/07/2024 18:41

Not me but a road locally won 1 million pounds. There was only 2 players.. actually mother and daughter too. Made the local news, obviously 😂

GingerLiberalFeminist · 25/07/2024 18:48

It's not a scam and perfectlu legal but there's something immoral about it which gets my goat. The company will draw from every postcode whether or not there is an entry for that postcode. If the postcode that wins is not an entry then the money goes back in. So there's less chance of winning as the draw is not from entries alone, which would reduce the odds.

Charity lottery and raffles work in the same way. All possibile numbers make up the pool, whether or not the stubs were purchased. It just seems unfair to me.

And yes i know the National lottery does this too, but its less apparent with postcode lottery and charity lotteries

I didn't say I prefer to, just that you can keep playing your old postcode. You update your details to your current address.

We've won the odd tenner or so - still waiting for the big one to come knocking on the door!! 😆
We do it partly because of the charity aspect and the fact we can say that we already contribute to charitable organisations as well the odds of winning are a tad better than the lotto and euro lotto.
That's not to say we don't contribute to other charities on the street if we feel so inclined but I hated being hounded by subsequent charities as a result of signing up to a monthly donation. When we cancelled the said donations, we had all manner of phone calls, letters and emails - we told them why we had cancelled and would never sign up in that way again for any charity in the future!

@Postcodelott it's asking for a name - do we need it?

ACreamyTeaPlease · 25/07/2024 19:04

Our friends a couple of streets away won £340,000, husband and wife both played so won double.

Stade197 · 25/07/2024 19:09

My partner has played postcode lottery for years and only won a tenner a couple of times

A few years back we lived in a different road and a friend of ours text my partner and said he'd heard our road had won the postcode lottery - we wasn't aware before then but it turned out half our road had a different postcode and it wasn't our half that won 😪

Sidebeforeself · 25/07/2024 19:13

Won a few tenners and prizes - better strike rate than the Lotto !

TokyoSushi · 25/07/2024 19:19

A few school mums on the same street won £40K each! I won a £5 Costa voucher today!

middleofnowhere666 · 25/07/2024 19:20

I have won quite a few £10 prizes but last year I won £35.000. Initially I thought it was a prank but about 6 week's later the money was in my account.

1AnotherOne · 25/07/2024 19:21

Won a couple of tenners. My colleagues sister won £90k along with her husband who also plays so they both got it.

britespark1 · 25/07/2024 19:26
