Has anyone here won money on the People's postcode Lottery?

I keep getting adverts for the Peoples Postcode Lottery. I don't play the National Lottery and I'm not tempted to play this one either.

But it did make me think about whether people do play it, do they win or is it a bit of a scam? A few of my friends have won small amounts (less than £5k) on the National Lottery but I don't know anyone who even plays this one. I'm just intrigued.

FIL won £30k about a year ago.

JaimeLannister · 25/07/2024 19:50

Only a few £10s for me, but an ex colleague won £30,000 and another colleague very recently won £3,000.

Hi
which postcode lottery are you talking about? There seems to be many on the internet.

Rainbow1901 · 21/11/2024 11:20

A few ten pound wins and a Costa Coffee Voucher.

Colleagues that lived at an address near to work got a share of £1million.

sashh · 21/11/2024 11:23

How does it actually work? I mean I have seen the ads but they don't tell you how it works.

Lotto tells you how much is in the fund for that draw and you can play when and if you want.

Eyresandgraces · 21/11/2024 11:25

There are 1.8 million postcodes in the uk.

Godesstobe · 21/11/2024 15:53

Some of my mother's neighbours won about £10k between a group of them two years ago. I've won a few tenners. Just enough to keep me interested - as they have obviously worked out.

jollygreenpea · 21/11/2024 16:47

I know two people that won.
One had two tickets, they got 30k.
The other had three tickets and got 45k.

Godesstobe · 21/11/2024 20:02

By coincidence I have just had an email telling me I have won £12. I won't spend it all at once!

Chloe42 · 21/11/2024 20:02

Colleague recently won £160k. I'm still hoping!

shellyleppard · 21/11/2024 20:10

I got the occasional tenner but that was it 🤔

Silly question I know. I assume if you move you have to drop out. Is that right? Moving next year. Bet they win once I have moved.

You can still play the old postcode
Up to you which postcode

cestlavielife · 21/11/2024 20:15

And just won another 12£

Singleandproud · 21/11/2024 20:16

I don't really expect a big win and view it more as my yearly charity donation, £3 a week and I might win something too. So far I've won 2 x £5 vouchers but a friend at toddler group won £20k.

merryandbrightdelight · 21/11/2024 20:17

Players in our street won £1,000 a few years ago 😊

Singleandproud · 21/11/2024 20:19

@sashh How it works basically they make many draws for different charities, for different amounts and you may or may not win.

Each day, Monday to Friday, players in 20 postcodes each win £1,000 per ticket.

Every Saturday players in one postcode win a share of £1 Million in our Millionaire Street prize.

Every Sunday players in one postcode each win £30,000 per ticket in our Street Prize.

Every month players in one postcode sector win a share of £3.2 Million or more in our Postcode Millions. On the rare occasion where there are not enough winning tickets in the postcode sector, the area may be expanded to the postcode district.

Obviously it's gambling and should be done sensible, I view it as my charity contribution for the year so don't feel quite so guilty when I don't have change for the charity buckets anywhere.

tigger1001 · 21/11/2024 20:23

I've won a fair few £10 and also m&a vouchers.

A friend of mine won £30k in the summer

Planits · 21/11/2024 20:28

That’s not true, they only draw from entered postcodes. Every draw has a guaranteed winner.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 25/07/2024 18:48

It's not a scam and perfectlu legal but there's something immoral about it which gets my goat. The company will draw from every postcode whether or not there is an entry for that postcode. If the postcode that wins is not an entry then the money goes back in. So there's less chance of winning as the draw is not from entries alone, which would reduce the odds.

Charity lottery and raffles work in the same way. All possibile numbers make up the pool, whether or not the stubs were purchased. It just seems unfair to me.

And yes i know the National lottery does this too, but its less apparent with postcode lottery and charity lotteries

My comment above was in response to this sorry

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 21/11/2024 20:31

£12 and a £4 M&S voucher.

SabreIsMyFave · 21/11/2024 20:34

Yes I have won @EmmaGrundyForPM
