Curious things your neighbours do...

Lighthearted!!

I'm not a curtain twitcher (I promise!) but was vacuuming earlier when I noticed the neighbour opposite was out jetwashing his drive...in the rain! He's now moved on to jetwashing the car (also in the rain). Each to their own, I guess.

But it reminded me of another neighbour who used to come outdoors each night and sweep the pavement in front of his house. Not sure what he was sweeping away (dust? Stones?) but most nights at around 8pm, you'd hear the swish swish of the brush.

Does anyone else have neighbours who do curious things?

You'd think that would ruin a lawnmower! It's not meant for concrete.
I often see nets in a knot up windows , I think people think it looks pretty.

Our neighbour has gone back to a full time job at 72.
He told DH it's to get away from her indoors.
Don't blame him as she is a bit*h. Shouts at him and the dog
morning noon and evening.

Thank goodness they are separated from us by a fence.

lol my grandad did this to get away from my gran. His full time job was actually sitting in the pub or bookies. Then coming to mine for lunch in between lol

Fella up the road mops his drive

My female neighbour has LOTS of male visitors...usually for an hour at a time. Yes,I'm a curtain twitcher!

Oh, I used to live across from her! Although, thinking about it, she was older than me, so would be around 70 now 😱

shellyleppard · 27/05/2024 21:18

My next door neighbour does the gardening in his slippers and then complains when he gets cat poo on them 🙄🙄

Glipsy · 27/05/2024 21:19

Fly tipping
Throwing glass bottles at eachother (the kids)
Selling crack cocaine
barbecues on the street - like just on the pavement a bunch of random dudes will set up and have a grill

Chocolateorange22 · 27/05/2024 21:24

One mows his grass several times a week. Rest of the time is indoors with his curtains shut even during daylight. His property is falling to bits and he drives a 25 year old car in immaculate condition and his grass is always pristine. I watched him scream and shout at a contractor that was parked across my drive (massive sewage leak on the street) that had been there all night using loud pumps. The guy lives 200 metres away, wasn't his house that was vibrating all night with orange lights flashing into every room. Yet he felt the need to scream at the poor chap doing a job. Absolute oddball.

One of our neighbours puts her washing out on the line every morning at 7. Full load, every day out it goes no matter what the weather. Pouring rain - she’s there pegging it out. Snow - same.

This is my MIL she will put washing out in the middle of winter and just leave it frozen on the line fore days! ( until it thaws).

Where I used to live one of the neighbours spent hours every week washing his car. If it had rained all week he would put his hi vis on and wash his car in the pouring rain.
He was a nice bloke though.

I live next door to one of these too! Mine even has a tent he uses to put over the car if it's raining or too sunny while he's cleaning.

I honestly hope I one day reach a time in my life where I have hours every weekend to this!

(They re also lovely people!)

FIL used to do this. He had removed the blade and basically used the mower as an outdoor hoover. He couldn’t get enough up with a dustpan and brush. We fell short by his v high tidy standards.

Is he mowing the weeds coming though. Either way it’s nuts.

My next door neighbour has a garage chock a block with stuff (piles of crap).
Every month or two he empties the garage completely onto his drive and lawn, surveys said stuff (crap) then puts it all back!
It's bonkers.

Laiste · 27/05/2024 21:30

Our old neighbours used to empty their BIG paddling pool every couple of weeks via a hose-pipe syphon drain sort of set up, down the street at midnight.

On summer nights you'd hear them scuffling about up the side of the house and then dragging the hose to the gutter. We lived on quite a steep hill and it would cause a small river so i could see why they did it under the cover of darkness but it used to amuse me 😅

Sailawaygirl · 27/05/2024 21:31

Theres a man down the road from us who moves sand/soil from one verge to the other side. He's often there just digging and putting soil from verge in a bucket and moving it across the road. No idea why! Unfortunately its a single country road on a bend so he's made a few ppl do an emergency stop.

But why!!

Oh my god our neighbours the other side of the paddling pool emptiers used to do that!

He was quite obese and used to stand there ordering his poor wife (who was a tiny chinese lady) to move all these boxes and where to put them on the drive and then have her put them all back!

DanceMumTaxi · 27/05/2024 21:34

Our neighbours don’t park on their drive. It’s a double width drive so loads of space. It is a little bit steep, but everyone else manages fine and it’s a quiet road so no issues with getting on/off. They don’t even park in front of the dropped kerb, they park a car either side of it. It’s completely baffling.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/05/2024 21:34

They have a beautiful decking with glass panels that they never sit on, literally in 5 years they have never once sat on it, no plants or chairs on there at all.

They offer to do work on our house because they are ‘stakeholders’ which annoys me no end, but you know what, if you wanna spend your weekends cutting my hedges, crack on love..

She’s obviously a “seamstress”, doing alterations. Like quick-stitch. 😇😆

Baseline14 · 27/05/2024 21:42

My neighbours have been there for 3 months and are now on their 4th skip. They house was move in ready and they have had zero work done, the skip at the minute has a random assortment of bin bags with some random fruit and veg at the top. What's even weirder is that we live across the road from the dump and can see it from our living room window.

Beaverbridge · 27/05/2024 21:44

Neighbour across the road, been there 40 plus years. Every weekend without fail washes their 2 cars. By wash I mean the full works. He actually takes the seats out and shampoos them. This takes up the full day. Thing is when he worked he went in a suit and she was a stay at home mum, didn't use car.

Brightredtulips · 27/05/2024 21:45

Jet washing in the rain is the best way to do it, also jo one sitting out in their gardens. Bloody makes me mad as soon as the sun comes out every one starts jet washing. Try doing it in the rain, it's efficient, and you'll be already wet.

Marmaladelover · 27/05/2024 21:51

HateMyNewJobSoMuch · 27/05/2024 18:39

My neighbour likes to sunbathe while wearing jogging bottoms and a long sleeved top. I just don’t get it. She also wears black anoraks zipped up to her nose in warm weather.

Another likes to faff about with fake potted plants, seasonal door wreaths and has crappy super thin astro that looks like a sheet of felt in her front garden. It would look much better if she did nothing.

Do you live in Devon! The family up the road from us have a front garden full of plastic plants . They have been in the ground now for about 5 years and starting to fade . They clearly know nothing about gardening too since they have things like Orchids sprouting out of the ground, Ponsetia flowering too . I expect they have Astro turf out the back too .

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 27/05/2024 21:52

Where we are it's like some odd memo has been issued (to everyone but us) that you must no hang washing out to dry. We can see six back gardens from our top floor, and in all the time we've been here not a single person but us has hung washing out to dry.

I really don't understand it, why run up huge electricity bills or have washing hanging all round the house when you have a garden and it is a lovely sunny day?!

wheeltrims · 27/05/2024 21:53

Plump82 · 27/05/2024 17:25

My neighbour cuts his grass, except he doesn't have any grass. He has a patio and goes over it with a lawnmower??!!

Is your neighbour my neighbour? I always thought he was a bit batty but maybe it's more usual than I thought?!

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 27/05/2024 21:56

RightOnTheEdge · 27/05/2024 17:55

I've never once seen them take their dog out for a walk. You'd hardly even know they had a dog except in two years, I've probably seen it looking out of the window about 5 times.

Healthy family as far as I can tell, with teenaged boys, so no obvious reason why none of them take it out.

That would be called laziness.
