Curious things your neighbours do...

Lighthearted!!

I'm not a curtain twitcher (I promise!) but was vacuuming earlier when I noticed the neighbour opposite was out jetwashing his drive...in the rain! He's now moved on to jetwashing the car (also in the rain). Each to their own, I guess.

But it reminded me of another neighbour who used to come outdoors each night and sweep the pavement in front of his house. Not sure what he was sweeping away (dust? Stones?) but most nights at around 8pm, you'd hear the swish swish of the brush.

Does anyone else have neighbours who do curious things?

My neighbours all have white BMWs or Audis and they’re constantly washing them but never at the same time. I’ve often wondered if they have a rota we’re not in on.

RubySloth · 27/05/2024 18:26

Mine will throw sprouts, animal carcass, basically anything out of his window into the front garden ... its frustrating.

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 27/05/2024 18:27

Where I used to live one of the neighbours spent hours every week washing his car. If it had rained all week he would put his hi vis on and wash his car in the pouring rain.
He was a nice bloke though.

the80sweregreat · 27/05/2024 18:30

As much as I like my neighbours, the man on one side also likes to come out if Dh is gardening or I'm out there with washing or whatever it may be.
Not to chat , but I feel it's a territory thing too or a nose , although nothings going on.
I feel it's to check up.
I feel the car washers are men who need to get out the house to do something other than cleaning the house or diy rather than actually wanting a clean car.

I'm the "binfluencer" in my street - always the first to put my bins out. My neighbours think I'm odd!😉

I value people like you and need people like you. Thank you for your service.

My female neighbour has LOTS of male visitors...usually for an hour at a time. Yes,I'm a curtain twitcher!

My neighbour likes to sunbathe while wearing jogging bottoms and a long sleeved top. I just don’t get it. She also wears black anoraks zipped up to her nose in warm weather.

Another likes to faff about with fake potted plants, seasonal door wreaths and has crappy super thin astro that looks like a sheet of felt in her front garden. It would look much better if she did nothing.

No! You are really needed! In fact, I think the local binfluencer deserves a community service award

the80sweregreat · 27/05/2024 18:42

There was a photo in the daily mail of a woman who had blue Astro turf laid to make it look like a swimming pool. It looked strange and I'm pleased my neighbours have normal grass.
I hope it doesn't catch on

If this is West Yorkshire, this could well be my Dad sweeping.

ETA - saw the update about parking, this won't have been him.

Emmerald · 27/05/2024 18:43

Next door uses his ride-on mower all day every Saturday, rain or shine. You can hear him pootling about on it, over and over the same area. I'm surprised he's got any grass left!

Kelly51 · 27/05/2024 18:44

One of our neighbours puts her washing out on the line every morning at 7. Full load, every day out it goes no matter what the weather. Pouring rain - she’s there pegging it out. Snow - same.

Now I'm curious? literally 365 days per year??

MrTiddlesTheCat · 27/05/2024 18:45

I had a neighbour who went off to work every morning in a suit and tie, briefcase in hand. Turned out he was a manual labourer and had his work clothes and sandwiches in his briefcase.

tiggergoesbounce · 27/05/2024 18:51

Hi neighbour! I know - I've got too much to do, I'm not very organised and it always dries eventually 😁

🤣🤣

Danceswithweasels · 27/05/2024 18:53

My neighbour does not have a kitchen bin, so every bit of packaging, every tea bag gets transported to the outside bin one by one. She also "primes" the bins the night before so they are wheeled forward from their line ready to move in the morning, the bin lorry usually doesn't come until lunch time so she transports used teabags etc to the bin on the verge during this interim period.

Iceache · 27/05/2024 19:35

Our old neighbour once woke us up using our other neighbour’s leaf blower to blow snow from the street outside his garden (not much snow - a light dusting) at 3am.

DiggerTruck · 27/05/2024 20:10

Probably not that weird to some, but our neighbours only seem to leave their house a couple of times a week. There’s 4 of them living there, none of them appear to work, the curtains are always drawn and they don’t like to answer the door for the delivery people (We’ve ended up with their parcels a fair few times😑)

I don’t get weird vibes from them when they come to collect the parcels, they seem pretty ‘normal’ to me.

I think some of them are gamers, as we can sometimes hear them through the walls late at night…that might explain why they rarely leave the house 🥴

mathanxiety · 27/05/2024 20:24

Stands outside his back door drinking beer for hours every night, talking to himself in a strange falsetto voice.

Our neighbour has gone back to a full time job at 72.
He told DH it's to get away from her indoors.
Don't blame him as she is a bit*h. Shouts at him and the dog
morning noon and evening.

Thank goodness they are separated from us by a fence.

longtompot · 27/05/2024 20:43

Leaf blowing his lawn after it had rained! I suspect he was getting some large puddles and they are quite lawn proud. It's mowed at least once a week with petrol mower, petrol strimmer and petrol blower. It's a long, smelly, noisy process.

That's so sad 😞

WindowViper · 27/05/2024 20:57

My old downstairs neighbour used to sing hymns, mournfully but loudly, in the garden in the middle of the night. Often wearing a white nighty so the first time I was properly sure she was a ghost.

Now we have a very elderly gent who can’t work his telly. Whenever he needs help he wanders the street holding his remote until someone vaguely tech savvy sees and helps him out.

One of my neighbours ties his net curtains up in a knot. I can't really understand why. I thought you had net curtains because you don't want people looking in. So why tie them up high in a knot?
