Can I get in trouble for doing this

I'm mid 40s . For a long time I have been trying to find out why I went to a school for children with learning difficulties. I know i have learning difficulties but I don't really know what they are.

So I heard I may be able to find out via my medical records we are talking 35+ years ago though. Anyway I went on to the Web site thing for my gp surgery. It said to access my medical history I would need to send photo ID it gave the common ones for driving licence. Passport ID card. Then it had the option of other so I pressed on that abd it gave me other options. I did not understand what it was really.

So here's what I done I recently sent for photo ID on the government site that will allow me to vote. It has a photo of myself and other personal details. So I took a photo of that and sent that to the gp as my photo ID. It wasn't even on the list as an option.

Can i get into any sort of trouble for using it?

They won’t accept it - sorry

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/05/2024 17:09

They may not accept it, but I dont think you will get in any trouble for using your own identification

Why would you use an ID that wasn't in the list and expect it to be accepted?

Exactly this. They might accept it, depends how they've asked you to verify your identity. But no you won't get into trouble

Thank you 💐

Because not everyone has one of the other forms?
Hence the introduction of the voter ID system.

Did you miss that OP has learning difficulties, and is asking for help, so probably finds forms like that difficult? Or did you just want to kick them when they’re struggling?

Why would you reply to this post with such a shitty tone?

EatingSleeping · 25/05/2024 17:14

If they say no you can have a conversation with them about what would be ok to send (accepted as ID). You sound like you might need a bit of support anyway in looking at the records as it can be quite upsetting and the records can be complicated. You could try contacting the loval council where you went to school to see if they can share any information.

And you think that remark is helpful?

Maybe, if you think about it, the op may not/doesn't have any I'd that's on the list and thought the id might do?

Not everything is black and white, perhaps think out side the box 🤷‍♀️

Did you read the bit where I said I have learning difficulties? That means things don't always sink in. Some things woosh over my head . I also thought if I can use it to vote by can't I use it to access my own stuff. I probably can't but never mind

Do you have a passport or driving licence?
The voting thing is literally only for voting, nothing else.
Of course you won't get "in trouble', but you might waste a bit of time!

Mindblownawaybyfog · 25/05/2024 17:16

But the actual list provided was to be helpful not to trick the user....
If in doubt surely stick to the suggested list?
Lists are invaluable to some people.. My adhd dh can't manage without a list.

No I don't because I don't have anyone/professional that can sign the back

Right so you can understand ADHD Dh situation. But you can't stretch to think someone else's struggles may be different.

Surely stick to the list thats suggested . How if I have nothing that's on the list.

@Dopeydoris44 i think you can apply for a provisional driving license (even without the intention of driving, it’s a really handy form of ID) without having someone professional sign it, I think I applied for both my dds ones and don’t recall having any need to countersign it. I’m going to check, hang on!

I think someone needs to sign... I will look to

Hmm. It says you need a passport with dds both had.
Or, your birth certificate and one of these others on the list:
do you have any of those?

Can I get in trouble for doing this
Dearg · 25/05/2024 17:25

Op, can you ask your GP surgery to assist you in gaining access? Your voter id may be acceptable along with , for example, a bill with your name & address.

You will not be the first person who does not have a passport or driving licence, so I would think they ought to be able to help you.

Despite some of the shitty responses, you have done nothing wrong and it’s reasonable for you to want to know.

Did you miss the bit where the OP said it listed passport, driving licence and also "Other"?

LIZS · 25/05/2024 17:27

Worst case they decline it and ask for another. Does it include your address though?

That’s for a passport but I don’t remember ever having to do that for provisional driving licences (I applied for one for DD within last couple of years)
