Like you literally got NOTHING for it.
DD wanted to go to drama club for ages. Loved the first term. Asked if she wanted to do the second term. No sooner had a I sent the money across she came and told me she didn't want to do it and has been moaning and tantruming about it ever since. £90 completely wasted. I'm feeling pretty salty about it atm. Help me feel better about it with your wasted money stories?

I got one of those pre packaged 3 meals a day, 6 week chef/diet subscriptions. God they were awful. I lost no weight, only ate the two or three meals I liked and I could just about cope with the breakfasts and the snack bars. Everything else sat I'm the freezer or the cupboard for 5 months until my husband snapped and chucked them all.
£450 wasted and I'm still a chubby mare....

Most recent was a ££ woollen jumper that I accidentally shrank in the normal wash after a couple of wears. @Leafalotta have you tried soaking it in hair conditioner? There's lots on the internet on relaxing wool, linen and other natural fibres. I was able to re-expand a linen shirt I accidentally shrank on a hot wash, by soaking it in hair conditioner (not neat!).

Dentistry that my dentist convinced me I needed. He put the mock up veneers on my teeth and I kid you not, I looked like Jürgen Klop. There was also the small matter that I wasn't able to speak!
£1k "lost" on the mock ups but thank God I had them 😁 as saved myself from a further £5k and the shame of looking ridiculous.

I paid £240 reserve to rent a house I knew I wasn't actually going to rent bit panicked.

I did something similar, put £200 deposit on a place then decided to go elsewhere, which I kinda knew I would when I put the deposit down.....

@therealcookiemonster I voted brexit, as did many people, why spoil a thread by dissing their views except spite. There’s always one 🙄

Started watching Caroline Hirons on YouTube and spent a fortune on recommended products. Ended up with covered in itchy rashes and spots! Stopped using stuff during lockdown and have had great skin ever since. Feel such a twat for being taken in!

BovineUniversity · 25/05/2024 17:14

I love this thread. I have so many.

Usually kit related to sports. Like it really MATTERS about having the 'best you can afford' then realising it really didn't matter as it doesn't get used anyway Angry

HerRoyalNotness · 25/05/2024 17:24

Swimming lessons. Went in the first few times, then got a male instructor and refused. Asked for a female, went in again, then refused. I’d say you can join in or sit and watch the lesson. She sat and watched.

cancelled with a months notice then got a personal coach to come to the house via our neighbour. Only slightly more expensive and she’s thrived. She’s on summer swim team and coach is back this summer

@NotAgainWilson my DS has just done this. Fortunately we didn't pay first time around, as it was NHS.
He's paying for it himself now. I can't justify forking out for it when it's self inflicted. To be fair, due to Covid he went to the appointments by himself. Had I been with him I might have been more clued up and ensured he used the retainers Confused

A husband - ate and drank my salary with other women - I worked for 15 years to “keep a roof over our heads” - too late I realised I could have stayed home and kept the family sane happy fit and healthy and had time and energy to keep him too !

Chanel05 · 25/05/2024 17:30

I used to do pay as you go Bikram Yoga regularly. It was about £15 per session 10 years ago. I decided to invest in an annual pass to go as often as I wanted for £250. I went one single time!

Makegoodchoices · 25/05/2024 17:33

£75 on swimsuits from Meet.Curve without knowing it was basically a scammer site - long delivery, bad quality and refusal to refund.

Always check Trustpilot!!

Gym memberships. Many, many, many gym memberships. Last one I was a reluctant signer up, DH really enthusiastic. He wasn't paying. Went twice in 6 months so I cancelled it. About three months later he said shall we go to the gym?

Plants. Doesn't matter what I buy, they die.

Curling wand. I look like I have been electrocuted.

Every cashmere sweater I have accidentally put in the washing machine.

Unnecessary 🦃🍗 food and related 🎄crap at Christmas for the last 40-odd years… every year I say I won’t, we’ll just keep it basic and nice… every bloody Easter I’m chucking out “Santas Minty Balls” and other nauseous crap!

Also, buying really nice thoughtful gifts for friends etc, only to be given ££s of worthless plastic tat😡 No more!! Got to my later years and just said, not buying, don’t want to receive…. Haven’t lost the friends, just the tat in the cupboard👏👏

Not your fault, or Covid’s fault. Mine was using them every night but someway became something that was no longer importan to remember when he started living on his own.

Ashamed/furious that I just got scammed out of £78 by one of these 'helping' sites when I renewed my driving license. I'm usually very tech savvy and careful but I was in a hurry and this site was came top when I googled the dvla and was absolutely convincing. I didn't know it's free to renew. Feeling stupid. Beware of the passport and dvla fake sites.

I agree, you have to be so careful to check the site, they deliberately look very like the official one but the DVLA will ask for the number on your renewal notice.
I got off much luckier than you, just got charged a few quid but had bruises all over my backside from the kicking I gave myself

Giggorata · 25/05/2024 17:51

The £45 that I paid to talkdecor (yes, I know) for a beautiful velvet embroidered coat cardi thing.

That's talkdecor, vipers, just in case you were thinking of buying from them.

I had more than fifty sessions of therapy with a counsellor who was self-employed. Looking back, more than half of those sessions I was just ranting / venting, which I now realise wasn’t therapeutic. So I feel financially exploited and wasted north of £1K.

To be fair, £20 per session (or even £30 if you paid 1.5k for 50 sessions) is dirt cheap!

Just think of it like paying a normal person £20/hr for the repeated emotional labour of listening to your ranting/venting.

I think ranting and venting works wonders for some people (though not for me and apparently not you either).

Last smear test came back positive and cell changes
Did a lot of research and spent hundreds on immune boosting this , that and the other
A year later I get my latest result (yday)
Still positive with cell changes
Really disappointed

@solice84 I haven’t read the whole thread so others may already have said this: please please please ignore anything and anyone who tells you they can boost your immune system against cancer. I’m an NHS dietitian with 30 years experience and have seen cancer patients and back in the bad old pre treatment days , AIDS patients investing money and hope in these “ treatments” which simply do not work. By all means support you r immune system with a healthy diet, exercise, mindfulness but take the orthodox treatment it’ s the only way to get rid of the cell changes.

WiddlinDiddlin · 25/05/2024 18:02

Mostly costs due to DP..

Replacing a radiator, because: ' Do not attempt to move that sofa out via the front door, it won't fit, take it out the back via the patio doors'...

It did not fit. He ripped the rad off the wall. We had to have an emergency plumber and it cost me the better part of £400.

Brand new batteries in my outdoor wheelchair, because: 'Have you put it on to charge? Oh you'll do it tomorrow?'... no, he hadn't, for week after week after week until the batteries were so dead they were unrecoverable. £900 to service and replace with new batteries.

of course spite. not because the country is going to shit. even when the government is about to spend 5 billion to put in place systems that will make importing goods so much harder and more expensive... all because people decided go cut off their nose to spite their face.

if you are still not seeing that brexit is having a huge negative impact on this country, then I have no intention of walking around eggshells to spare your feelings. sorry not sorry.

This week I paid £41 for a private riding lesson, within the first 15 minutes the horse bucked, bolted and left me on the floor, bruised and winded but luckily nothing broken, the stables messaged me the next day, not to checked how I was but to check if I’d bloody paid !! Probably won’t be having any more lessons there

handyandy1 · 25/05/2024 18:21

All the toys I bought at Christmas in big boxes so the living room looked full, but never wanted or used! I learnt as they got older & wrapped small presents in big boxes 😂
