Like you literally got NOTHING for it.
DD wanted to go to drama club for ages. Loved the first term. Asked if she wanted to do the second term. No sooner had a I sent the money across she came and told me she didn't want to do it and has been moaning and tantruming about it ever since. £90 completely wasted. I'm feeling pretty salty about it atm. Help me feel better about it with your wasted money stories?

Fucking conservatory blinds that cost thousands and still for damp and mouldy. Fucking Sandersons.

£100 Warhammer set for DS birthday that he begged for for about 5 months. Built one figure and it's been gathering dust since. Gravitrax for DS Christmas that he desperately wanted, used for a week and gathering dust. There is a pattern here...

Warhammer never depreciates in value if that's any consolation.Smile

I will keep telling myself that every time I dust the bloody thing!

NCT 17 years ago. Had DS before the first antenatal class. Went to a couple of classes and leader was really snooty about my CS (while DS still in NICU). I hoped there would be some info about babies/feeding, but it was all birth prep. The group were frankly horrid and I avoided them until they all went back to work. £136 was such a lot of money to us at the time and I’m still a bit bitter.

£65 on a wool dress that I shrank by washing it. Wore it once.
Fancy Everyman cinema tickets for Chronicles of Narnia as a special Christmas treat for DS aged 6. He was terrified by it and asked to leave after 10 minutes. £35.

Paying £50 per month for an iPhone 7 with barely any data 3 years after the contract ended when I could have gone sim only 🥹 the upgrade to a 13 in 2021 felt like it was something from Star Trek.

Divorce solicitor - got the straightforward bit for a fixed fee, as far as the decree nisi, then I let them persuade me to instruct them on an hourly fee to deal with financial agreement ('remember, the judge is very likely to award your costs against your H'). Several thousand £s later - oh I'm sorry to tell you this, but based on the information your STBXH has provided - or failed to provide - I'm unable to advise you any further. Your only options are to instruct a forensic solicitor (even more £££££) or do it yourself.' Many attempts on my part before giving up, and several years later, stalemate = still not divorced, no financial settlement. 💷🔥

Clarinet and lessons. DD attended the lessons to get out of maths . Never practiced . Not ever. Made the dizzying heights of grade 1.

DuckyShincracker · 25/05/2024 00:19

I've had the rented lightbulb crap. You needed a suction cup to change it and my Dad had gone on holiday! Think it was £30 to change by a spark. My worst one lately is the scary man to fix the dishwasher. £85 to prod it unenthusiastically with a screwdriver. He did nothing and charged us £85. Told DH to drill a hole in the bottom if it carried on not working. DH has phoned another dishwasher repair guy and told him our sorry tale. To which the guy replied oh I see you've met Bob then! Apprently we got off lightly.

6 years ago we paid hefty exit fees to help secure a cheaper mortgage to extend our house. There was a threat of a general election and rate rises. Never happened. We should have let our old mortgage expire.

Got scammed by a plumber recently. Still not over it Angry

DH bought tickets for Chester races earlier in the week, hurt my back on Tuesday so I can't go, can't find anyone who wants the tickets - £90 wasted.

I've paid £250 for a Cup Final ticket for tomorrow. The kitten has had an accident and has to have an operation on Tuesday so I can't go.

God, yes. So many main courses that have not been eaten. Macaroni cheese or nothing these days.

LetsGoRoundTheRoundabout · 25/05/2024 00:54

£200 on DH’s new glasses, next day he leaves them on top of the car and drives away… they’re somewhere on the M1.

All those clothes I couldn’t resist and promised myself I’d slim into one day!

Buggy board for DC1 when DC2 was a baby

DC1 refused to stand on it, even to try it out whilst stationary

£50 for an unused plank of plastic whist I was on maternity pay

Still bitter. DC1 still as stubborn, but is now bigger than me.

CerealPonderer · 25/05/2024 01:17

Bought two Northface tshirts for ds2 for his birthday at £35 a pop each.

What does he do? Cuts off the tags before trying on...and they were too small 🤦🏻‍♀️

I put them to one side (on top of a unit in mine and dh's room) thinking I'll stick them on Marketplace to try and get some money back. A week later I realise they've disappeared. Dh casually says 'Oh yes, they were the too small ones? I put them in the green bag'. The green bag full of outgrown, well worn, Primark summer clothes that's just gone to the clothes bank. FFS.

Disneydatknee88 · 25/05/2024 01:23

Had the same with brownies. She loved the first term. Literally one week we paid the 2nd term (and I'd spent countless hours hand sewing all the badges on her expensive uniform) she decided it was boring.

IdleAnimations · 25/05/2024 02:05

I recently had a baby.

I’m often weak at 2am with online shopping for anything that will help.

Going into the loft this weekend in case we’re crazy enough for a second:

  • 3 different sling types (honestly baby hated it and I couldn’t do any housework with them in it - don’t get the hype on MN about them).
  • 2 different types of chair rockers/bouncer (one was a gift thankfully)
  • An untouched Moses basket, baby would not sleep in the living room as advised on all guidance. Only contact napping.
  • A side sleeper cot which was mostly for storage in the end as co sleeping won.
  • Most of their 3-6 month clothes as they suddenly went from newborn clothes to 6-9 months.
  • Flat pram seat as baby would only endure the car seat.
  • 2 different white noise machines - did nothing.

Other things gathering dust:

  • Exclusively Breastfeeding and tried to express so DH could ‘help’. Can’t pump so this means a £25 pump, a let down catcher and 3 different bottle types baby has refused.
  • 3 different dummies gathering dust (trying to get the comfort sucking under control).
  • So many different nappy creams, old school sudocrem works the best.

We were exceptionally conservative and got most things second hand or gifted but it still burns me as I’m packing up so much unused or rejected stuff 🤣

EdithStourton · 25/05/2024 02:08

Branded school jumpers.
They went through at the cuff in about 5 seconds (all the DC, so not just one picking at it)
Then I bought yet another school jumper (slightly better quality by now) planning to get a good few years use out of by passing it down). School went and changed the sodding uniform.

DiscoBeat · 25/05/2024 02:08

I still feel annoyed at my decision to change a perfectly good, still quite new car for what turned out to be a rubbish one - £3k gone

MidnightMeltdown · 25/05/2024 02:25

Loads of expensive cat foods that my cat doesn't like and refuses to go near

Fussy bastard

SquashPenguin · 25/05/2024 03:03

£30k on failed ivf before conceiving naturally against all odds 😆

Happyhappyday · 25/05/2024 03:08

£1200 on body work for the car. DH backed into a dumpster. 😂

Hope puss cat is ok? Poor baby. Not a nasty car, I hope?
