Do you think we will get a summer?

I was absolutely freezing in town today and saw people dressed in black huddling and fighting the weather. For Gods Sake!!!

Please tell me. it will improve.

I hope so. I want a proper summer. This May bank holiday week it's due to rain. So pissed off, in previous years it's been lovely.

fieldsofbutterflies · 24/05/2024 07:53

@Abracadabra12345 where are you?

It's 11 degrees and raining here 😂

familyissues12345 · 24/05/2024 07:56

I think the problem is the last few years of long periods of very high temps has raised everyone's expectations, anything less than that is seen as rubbish, whereas that was an exception

Vettrianofan · 24/05/2024 07:17

I bought summer dresses at the weekend so I have jinxed it. Sorry 🤣

No it was me. I wore shorts on Monday 😂

BoobyDazzler · 24/05/2024 08:03

May is usually my favourite month but this year has been so disappointing so far :(

June July and August will as usual be horribly warm

Like last year? we had a short break in Wales in July and I had to buy extra clothes from a charity shop.

Negative thoughts are filling my head. I have lots of photos and memories of hot summers as a child. This just isn't normal.

Hopefully not because I hate summer and absolutely love the dark nights.

Sorry. There's always one. It might as well be me 😃

You're not alone 🤣

19/20 degrees and some sun is wonderful. It's lovely and sunny in my back garden right now and no rain forecast. I don't need bikini weather, I just don't want to wear a coat!

Yeh we will get summer. It'll be hit and miss, there will be days of glorious sun and there will be rain. But summer isn't just about tiny clothes and sunburn 😁

I'm meeting friends for an afternoon in the pub next weekend and I am confident we will be in the garden, which somehow makes it feel so much more acceptable to be drinking wine at 12.30 😂

Anyway I'm off to have my morning coffee in my garden 😎

It's currently 10 degrees and very cloudy where I am (midlands), would love a bit of sunshine.
I get very affected by SAD

DappledThings · 24/05/2024 08:57

17-18 and sunny spells mixed with showers is the forecast here for next few days.

I like being able to wear jumpers most of the year. Hate being too hot but like my warmth to come from layers rather than sun.

Of course it's normal - remember, most most people don't photograph the miserable dreary days when you're stuck inside with nothing to do except play Monopoly for the fifth time.

All the photos from my childhood summers show me eating ice cream or playing on the beach but I remember plenty of boring, wet and dull days too.

fieldsofbutterflies · 24/05/2024 09:05

@Abracadabra12345 lucky 😩 I'm out with the dogs and it's just started chucking it down again

mondaytosunday · 24/05/2024 09:08

About to walk my dogs in sunshine in a light linen top - it's here early!

WhatNoRaisins · 24/05/2024 09:10

While I prefer autumn and early winter I think you need the contrast of summer to prefer it.

My ideal summer weather would be dry and low 20s. Just warm enough for a picnic but not too hot to walk to the park.

Chipsahoy · 24/05/2024 09:10

But it’s not summer it’s spring. In spring it should be rain and sun, warmer but not hot. It’s only May!

Suchardchoccy · 24/05/2024 09:17

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/05/2024 22:43

I wore a t-shirt today because it was too warm for anything heavier after about 9am, the roses are out around 2 weeks early from the warmth and moisture and it was perfectly nice weather from shortly after I got to work.

It's been a wet spring, but it's better than water shortages and wildfires.

Can we not have a happy medium of these two extremes

blobby10 · 24/05/2024 09:20

I was supposed to be camping in Pembrokeshire this week but have never been more pleased that I had to cancel due to a work crisis!! i've now rescheduled for Cornwall in July so really keeping my fingers crossed that it dries up. i can deal with cold (mid teens) and dry or warm (20 deg plus) and wet but not cold and wet!

Although I don't hate the hotter weather, anything over around 25 degrees makes me really uncomfortable and tired these days.

fieldsofbutterflies · 24/05/2024 09:21

Chipsahoy · 24/05/2024 09:10

Exactly, summer doesn't actually start for another month yet!

Summerrabbit · 24/05/2024 09:25

I prefer the autumn/ winter too but I live in London & it just gets way too hot in summer! To be honest when it’s boiling hot it makes me worry more about climate change (though I know heavy rain & extreme weather in general is a feature). People are always complaining about the weather but unfortunately it’s only going to become more extreme & it’s because the planet is fucked. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

OrigamiOwls · 24/05/2024 09:27

I'm really hoping for a summer this year, don't feel we had one last year. I had to put my big winter coat on for yesterday's dog walking!

Whereas layers don't make me warm at all. Doesn't matter how many I wear or which fabrics. I'm not warm unless the air is warm.

RampantIvy · 24/05/2024 09:36

Ignore the summer haters, of which there are a disproportionate number on MN.

Meanwhile, the rest of us don't enjoy festering snuggling under a cosy blanket drinking hot chocolate.

We want to be outdoors, wearing summer clothes enjoying outdoor activities.

I jolly well hope that we get some decent summer weather this year.

eggplant16 · 24/05/2024 11:27

I loathe the word " snuggle"

Our house is old and cold every single day of the year.

Me too, this whole I’m snuggling and drinking hot chocolate, it’s like mumsnet bingo. I honestly roll my eyes when I see it.
