I’ll start. I have donated blood since my university days (80’s). I can’t do that now as I was diagnosed with cancer in. 2022. It’s strange, but this is a thing that really upsets me.

Squat down on my haunches. My knees!

Jaq27 · 24/05/2024 09:13

Business trips. Now late 50s I need to know I can get to the loo when I want… not always ideal or professional when on a fact-finding tour or all day meeting where 80% of the group are men under 45.
I also need to take meds based around having an empty stomach or taking with food .. when someone else is scheduling the day and the evening it would be difficult.
Makes me feel really pathetic and sad. But I’d be worrying about the above rather than the work in hand.
Recently turned down a business trip to Tokyo, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, but the anxiety was too much.

Oh my. Quite a lot.

I'm with ye on the concentration thing re reading or watching anything. I just...cant.

Can't eat gluten, greasy fatty foods or anything that makes the heartburn worse.

Can't stay up late anymore (or stay in bed in the mornings). Used to be the other way round.

Can't do nights out or I'm fecked.

Can't sit certain ways since I broke my fibula, nor sit for too long since I broke my coccyx.

Can't sleep through the night, nor fall asleep easy.

Can't move without hurting something.

Can't tolerate people anymore!

Can't do loud or crowded spaces since my hearing deteriorated, I end up panicking.

Can't sneeze without getting into position. Ditto if I have to be sick!

I'm turning 39 this year!!! I'm fecked!

@Jaq27 I hear you.

Not business trips but things like concerts or festivals or sports events or just traveling generally then worrying about it.

Do the following without a little ‘leakage’…..

Cough
Sneeze
Vomit
Suddenly laugh

They laugh at me at work for crossing my legs before the 3 out of 4 above😵‍💫

Get out of the driving seat of the car with any dignity… it’s a SUV, and I’m a shortarse, so I sort of flop out.

bferkoff · 24/05/2024 18:56

There’s lots on knees - will using an exercise bike everyday (purchased on Monday so the latest fad) cause fluid on knees?

Dancing and tiny chairs are most likely to blame for me.

Not simultaneously I might add!

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 24/05/2024 19:11

Since I had a stroke 3 years ago, I can no longer do Zumba 4 times a week like I used to. However, I can drive and do lots of other things.

At the moment, I've got a problem with my hip flexors (incredibly painful), so am hobbling about something terrible.

Mammma91 · 24/05/2024 19:16

Sneeze without the risk of a dribble of wee. Courtesy of my 2 children and a weak pelvic floor as a result. Youngest is 8 weeks old, will I ever sneeze, run or hiccup without peeing a bit? I doubt it. 😅

DrCoconut · 24/05/2024 19:36

Eat gluten. Which is incredibly restrictive. It will likely mean I can't go on some of the trips I'd planned for if I can ever afford it as the risk of not being able to eat or being ill is too great ☹️ I so wish I'd ignored the naysayers and travelled after A levels.

Blackcats7 · 24/05/2024 19:39

Walk, sit for more than a few minutes, bathe, shower, drive, ride, go out alone, sleep through the night, concentrate.
Not much left tbh.

fufulina · 24/05/2024 21:30

Sleep

But the diet industry tells us its calories in calories out and it's the same for everyone!

It's clear that in reality this is not the case, and refreshing to hear someone say that they were able to eat everything and no effect! 😊

Metabolism.

Many things can change our metabolism rates, for better or worse. But everything else being equal, the metabolism rates nearly always slow down as we age.

MiniPumpkin · 24/05/2024 23:01

can’t drink alcohol like before, I suppose that’s not a bad thing. Had a gin in the garden on Saturday and it knocked me for six, had to go to bed at 9pm.
can’t sleep even one night without having to get up to pee.
cant stay up past 11pm (even that’s good going)
cannot go one day without caffeine.
All at the old age of 36 😂🥴

MiniPumpkin · 24/05/2024 23:04

Oh forgot to say boiling hot drinks, tea, coffee. Over the last few months I’ve had to let them cool. Giving me heartburn issues 😂
I’m all of a sudden enraged that every coffee shop seems to produce drinks hotter than the sun

banjaxedeejit · 24/05/2024 23:23

Sneeze lying down

I bought a coffee in my local city centre last week after a hospital appointment. I could barely hold it. I went for my train, sat with it on the half hour train journey, then drove to my Mum's a further 10 minutes. It was just a drinkable temperature (as in still hot, but not scalding) 45 minutes after I was given it.

My pet hate.

KohlaParasaurus · 25/05/2024 09:16

Look at the soles of my own feet close up.
Enjoy the sensation of being on a fairground ride.
Lever my bicycle tyre off the rim to fix a puncture and get it back on without using a gadget.

HopeSpringsInfernal · 25/05/2024 11:48

Concentrate on a book - I used to read at least 2 books a week, now it takes me a couple of weeks to finish one.
Read small print without using a magnifying glass..
Open ring pull cans without the help of a gadget.
Drive at night - I really struggle on unlit roads and any cars coming towards me blind me.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 25/05/2024 11:55

I can no longer mask my irritation at social gatherings. So I don't go.
