Something that's true no one would believe

so Something happened this morning that's so funny to me but I can't really say it to anyone because they'll think I'm nuts so I'll start.

i genuinely turned a corner in Lidl this morning and Tracy beaker was there (dani harmer) I'd heard rumours she had moved to my town but I wasn't sure. But no, sure enough there she was.

I won't say where just incase there's some odd balls super fans but there you go. Have you ever bumped into a celeb in an odd place or something happened that no one would believe?

Numerous times 🤣

Try as you may, you will never be able to lick your own elbow.

(Although you could probably lick Michael Buerk's if you ask him nicely.)

OriginalUsername2 · 21/05/2024 22:38

Ben from Eastender as my train station. I only knew because there was a bloke shouting “Ben from Eastenders!” quite a lot. It does feel funny to have someone from the telly pop up in your daily life though!

(not my unbelievable story, just can relate)

Approximately 7% of the people who have ever lived are still alive today.

Driving in a friends car on a hot day with all the windows down, and as we rounded a bend a bird flew in one back window and straight out the other side.

I feel now like I made it up, but I swear it happened.

Eh? She's a B list actor, not a unicorn Confused

Oh she's having a revival... my grown up early twenties and late teens are rewatching allllll the series .

The 'Otley Run' was awash with Tracey Beakers !!

I know of a woman who has the same name as me including middle name and the same date of birth but grew up in another part of the country. There were a few times records almost got mixed up over our lives. I know there was a time when we had both moved to the same city and were less than 2 kms apart in the same district. A few years ago DH was abroad on a work event in a European city and got talking to a fellow English speaker one night who introduced herself and it turns out it was her!!!

Tarkan · 21/05/2024 22:46

DH and I were once at our doctors for him to see the practice nurse for something (we had plans afterwards which is why I went along with him). This was pre-Covid when normally the waiting room would have been busier but on this day there was just one other man there.

The nurse came out and said DH's name and the other man stood up too. He was also there to see the nurse. She ended up having to check middle names and DOB to make sure she had the right one.

Guinea pigs can’t fart, so if they get gassy it can literally kill them.

Who was the actor? TV? Film? British? American?

Not surprised your DP was miffed.
Imagine if this situation was reversed and a MNers posted about it.... your DP gave a gorgeous female actor his number, then he arranged to go for a drink with her, then he 'got carried away' and 'seriously drunk' with this gorgeous lady. LTBs everywhere. Quite rightly.

Yes, I agree. It was very silly of me and I don't blame DH for his reaction at all.

British actor. TV and film. Started off in one of the soaps as a teen (long time ago! Must be late 40s early 50s nows.) has since done a few big films with big names and then was the main character in an American TV show.

No one probably remembers these, but I went to a dancing competition when I was a kid and I was competing against the home farm twin girls

I saw a guy potting a black ball from a break in a game of pool. Everyone went mad, he instantly won the game.

We had a huge rock in our back garden and one day my dad found about 10 dead eels underneath it just poking out. How they got there or why someone put them there is still a mystery.

That was me sorry. My Goldfish killed loads of eels and we needed to hide the corpses.

This is actually my mum’s but she swears it’s true. My mum, nan and auntie were all sitting in the living room during a thunderstorm, a bolt of lightning came out of the fireplace, round the room and back up again. Dh says she’s remembered wrong but my mum insists and she’s generally not prone to bullshit

Shonla · 21/05/2024 23:10

I’m distantly descended from Jane Austen. Well, technically from her brother. Nobody ever believes me when I tell them about Great Aunty Jane!

3luckystars · 21/05/2024 23:13

My mother says she knew a woman that was on the phone during a thunderstorm, and lightning came down the phone and knocked her teeth out. 😁
Whenever there is thunder myself and my sister call each other and start saying ‘oooh my teeth’ etc. and just die laughing. Then one of my engineering friends told me there is a tiny chance this could have actually happened years ago so we stopped doing it now.
Also, my mother used to cover the mirrors during lightning, was that a superstition or old wives tale?

That there is only one country separating Norway and North Korea

I like that one. It’s properly counter intuitive.

Ioverslept · 21/05/2024 23:20

I bumped into Simon Reeve and took me a while, in fact I said "you look like someone" I later found out he lived nearby. Not hard to believe anyway. I once met a baby that was born on the exact sake day as mine and has the sake first name. I once bumped into my parents neighbour in Australia. I have experienced many other coincidences akd find very few things hard to believe. After all, truth is stranger than fiction!

classic example of people not believing what is true on a recent thread! - every European is descended from Vikings (however much those dna kits tell you you are not) and every English person is descended from Edward 1 - this is basic maths, but people will argue until they are blue in the face that it isn't true!

What's the maths?

I once met the queen mother in a drainage ditch at the bottom of a field. Apparently her convoy often used such routes to get away from security problems, or traffic jams

There's a cool YouTube video where a couple of cyclists bump into King Charles and have a chat. All captured on a helmet Camera 😀

Adam Ant in a tiny coffee shop years ago. Me and my dd stood next to him waiting to be served it was bizarre I had been a huge fan back in the day. He still had that gorgeous face.

I saw him perform a few years ago. He was amazing. My friend saw him then and in the 80s. She said he was better when we went.

TheSoundThatIWasHearing · 21/05/2024 23:58

I was on holiday with a friend in San Francisco. My friend lived in the SE, I lived in the North. During the holiday I bumped into another friend from the UK, on holiday there at the same time. That's odd in itself, but it turned out my London friend also knew her, but neither of us were aware of the connection.

I ran into Jim Moir (then better known as Vic Reeves) in my local supermarket many moons ago. I think he might have been visiting family in the area. Loads of people will have seen him there so not too difficult a story to believe!

I’ve seen him a few times in our local supermarket too and an electrical store…..the more embarrassing bit is I’m not into celebrities and don’t watch much tv tbh and I didn’t even know who he was until about the 5th time I saw him and someone else told me. I’m just pottering around in my own little bubble thinking about other stuff.

Could it have been a reflection? Also did they cover their mirrors? This one’s really interesting.
