Hornchurch: Woman dies in XL bully attack at home www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-69041493

She was the owner and sounds like she had a couple of them. They were registered but clearly that doesn't and didn't stop this preventable death.

I honestly think it's time to just cull them all.

The dogs, or the owners?

I have more empathy for the dogs tbh. At least they are just dumb animals, whereas the owne... ah...

I am inclined to agree.

@XDownwiththissortofthingX I'd imagine that it could only be the dogs, but it makes you think...

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but this happened along the road from me last week -

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2vvgx1y1x8o#:~:text=A%20woman%20has%20suffered%20serious,an%20investigation%20into%20the%20incident.

What the article doesn't elaborate on, is that in a tiny one-bedroom flat, she had four of these monstrosities, two cooped up in a cage in the front room, the other two in a separate room, presumably because they would have attacked each other. The two which attacked her were recent "rescues", only in the country because morons who can't differentiate between a cuddly family pet, and an inbred, hulking, ball of muscle with teeth, purposely designed to be hyper-aggressive and attack anything that moves, somehow deduced that rather than having these things bolted through the forehead, everyone would be better off if they were crammed into tiny spaces full of strange dogs and small children and carted them all off across the border.

They need turned to glue, ASAP.

An XL Bully

Woman attacked by her own XL bullies in Edinburgh flat

The woman was seriously hurt and the dogs were euthanised after the attack in Leith.

Re the attack posted by @XDownwiththissortofthingX
It's madness, how could anyone be so stupid. I have wondered if people unconsciously surrender themselves to the dog and placate them in the way you would an attacker?
How can you look at them and NOT see a dangerous predator??
I also blame the pet industry for the way they use advertising to manipulate people into seeing dogs as human.

SerafinasGoose · 24/05/2024 19:10

They are not 'XL Bullies'. They are pitbull cross. And no matter what individual dog they were sired from, they are a lethal breed which with good reason has (supposedly) been illegal in the UK since the the 1990s.

They are aggressive, dangerous, highly reactive, and no matter how 'soft' they seem, can turn on a hair trigger. This is a breed trait. It isn't just the stupid owners who contribute to this problem, although anyone who owns one of these killing-machines needs their bumps felt and if they have them around children, should be held criminally responsible.

It's the breed that's the problem.

Got badly bitten by a dog yesterday- think it was some kind of Staffie cross. I was just walking down a street and the dog came flying out of the house after me. Several wounds and that was through jeans. I was absolutely terrified and too shook up to go to work today. Owner had no control over it. And didn’t even apologise or ask if I was ok. Spent hours in A&e getting it seen to. Have reported to police . I’m a dog lover but these dogs are being bred for aggression and I dread to think the care they’ve been given

Bloody hell! Hope you’re OK. Staffies generally aren’t aggressive though I don’t think?

I’m shaken and really scared of getting a wound infection. I’m on antibiotics just in case. I m not sure what he was - he was medium sized not a large dog but very powerful build , black with a white chest and a bull terrier type face . I’ve met Staffs that are lovely dogs- maybe it wasn’t a Staffie but some other type of similar dog. Don’t think it was tall enough to be an XL bully . There’s a primary school nearby so I’m glad it was me not a child. Hopefully the police will do something about it

No wonder that they attacked her. I think plenty of dog breeds would have done the same if they were living in such appalling conditions.

Hope you’re on the mend, I think cat bites are more likely to get infected than dog bites (so I’ve read). The police should take it seriously.

Yet they don’t though do they?

Ive met thousands of rescue dogs. Abused, kept in appalling conditions, RSPCA cases, puppy farms etc etc.

They don’t behave like that even after all they have been through.

bluegreenlilac · 21/05/2024 07:26

I don’t care who they’re descended from: they have no place around humans and other animals.

There is a video from a Welsh farm where two XL bullies tore apart 22 Sheep
The farmer shoots the horrible XL's and when they spot him, the roar is Demonic.. before he shot them.

Not like a normal dog at all.

Police in America said the same thing, when retrieving the body of Mia Derouen {aged 4} - that the XL bully sounded Demonic.

The video where farmer shoots XL's is in this article.

They are so dangerous.

horror after woman is mauled to death by her two XL Bully dogs

I watched the video @oakleaffy
Just utterly terrifying, I cant get my head round wanting one, surely it's obvious even if you're an adult man that it can kill you whenever it feels like it, and they do clearly love killing things.

I mean I could be reaching (but I don't think I am) when I say the type of people that own these dogs are often men who control a lot of things in their lives, women included. They know what these beasts are capable of but think they would never dare disobey a command from their master, never mind turn on them. They'd be very wrong.

I agree.
It's all about wanting to display their power and status.
The feeling that they are the master of this terrifying powerful predator gives them a huge boost, they feel like superheroes, until they get their throats ripped out.
As per the old saying, 'pride comes before a dismemberment fall'

JohnofWessex · 25/05/2024 23:50

What we need is proper dog licensing, and of course control of breeders.

The RSPCA made proposals some years ago.

They estimated 75% compliance but of course it makes the non compliant sitting ducks for enforcement

wetotter · 26/05/2024 11:06

Shade17 · 24/05/2024 15:51

A question for these kind of people is do they agree that hundreds of years of breeding have made sight hounds instinctively chase small prey or collies instinctively herd? It’s funny that these dogs have had traits bred into them but when it comes to aggression in these fighting type dogs “iT’s tHe owNerS NoT The BreEd” they’re idiots.

It's the owners who choose what breed/type their pets is.

They will move on to the next well hard "status" dog, and the issue of dangerous dogs in domestic circumstances does not go away. That's why breed/type based approaches fail. Because the people who want that kind of dog are the problem.

And they don't care about breeding for good temperament, breeding out rage, or COI (probably don't even know what it is).

wetotter · 26/05/2024 11:11

Shade17 · 24/05/2024 19:38

Bloody hell! Hope you’re OK. Staffies generally aren’t aggressive though I don’t think?

Proper Staffies are very likely to have a good temperament. And are smaller and lighter bodied than some people expect.

This poster was talking about a Staffy-cross and that's a completely different thing. And their temperaments and aggression levels can vary enormously, as well as usually being larger and sturdier

Now, A small boy aged 5 has been rushed to hospital after one bit his head in the street

BBC News - Boy bitten on head in attack by 'XL bully-type' dog

wetotter · 29/05/2024 09:45

Back to rage syndrome - even though I know most posters don't see this as a factor.
Is the age of the attacking dog ever reported?

I hope the poor boy in the Hull attack is going to be OK. The linked BBC article reported that the attack took place in a house, not on the street. Not clear whose dog, or whether the house was the boy's home or if he was visiting.

TheRodent · 29/05/2024 10:04

What next? The world has gone mad (madder?). Will we have monster domestic, tiger cross cats that kill people? Not perhaps as far fetched as you may think as some of the latest cat breeds are crosses with wild cats.
