Case in point, a family member bred her French Bulldog. She went to one of those Instagram dog breeders for the stud. I begged her not to. The stud was 10 months old, only a pup himself, and not a great structure, no health tests. But my family member wanted him because of 'colour'. This was during lockdown too. She thought she was going to make a mint. I tried my best to educate her, even went as far as showing her nicer dogs, with health testing, with adult temperament known, but no, she wanted this one because the breeder gave her a special price (yes, because her bitch was being a guinea pig essentially).
Anyway, 5 pups were born, 3 male, 2 female. Of the males, they all ended up with other family members. She had to practically give them away in the end as the price she was asking (lockdown) no one was paying.
Anyway, I ended up looking after one of the males temporarily. Poor thing was a health mess. £1000s in vet bills, and as he matured he became very dog aggressive, and it was putting my other dog on edge. I said to my family member, there's something not right with these dogs. She didn't believe me, and moaned how I was a 'hater'.
Anyway, the one I took on ended up with severe spinal abnormalities and was put to sleep before the age of 2. The other 2 males have dog aggression and human aggression too. Because they are in pain and maybe genetically too. The stud dog used was mysteriously retired by the breeder at 18 months and never seen on Instagram ever again.
The same breeder then went into the 'bully game' as its called, breeding XLs, more money in it apparently.
