Support for snacking on crisps and chocolate

I don’t want to put this in weight loss chat because then I feel worse (everyone has such nice, good diets there!).

But can I start a support thread for those of us (like me) who can hoover up an entire sharing pack of crisps (the big ones) to themselves. Plus chocolates and so on.

I don’t mind the odd treat like Rich Tea light biscuits or chocolate wafer biscuits.

But I need to post here when I get tempted usually of an evening and even not to buy them!

Please, no saintly 😇 people who say “oh I never ever snack!”

Checking in 🙋‍♀️

I've found my people!

I LOVE crisps! And also chocolate, and also... can't have a cup of tea on an afternoon without biscuits to dunk in!

We are going on holiday next month - when we booked it 18 months ago I had these fabulous intentions of shedding a few stones, nevermind ey 🤣

FIFIBEBE · 20/05/2024 21:30

If you are very overweight consider semaglutide injections. A month ago crisps and chocolate filled a large percentage of my diet. I began on the lowest dose of the drug and I could think of nothing worse at the moment than even a tiny piece of chocolate or single crisp.

WoodBurningStov · 20/05/2024 21:32

I've had to remove all temptation. Bought some mini twister lollies the other day and ate the entire box within 2 days. If it's in the house I eat it.

Trying to be good and just had a bowl of strawberries with icing sugar

twoandcooplease · 20/05/2024 21:32

Hi! Have you ever tried eating a bit of chocolate then having a salt and vinegar (preferably) or ready salted crisp? It's been my go-to since I was 17
You could even be adventurous and melt the chocolate to dip the crisps in. They're amazing

twoandcooplease · 20/05/2024 21:34

I’ve tried roasted chick peas, but they are a poor fucking substitute for crisps.

What about snack-a-jack's @Tooski?

Gymmum82 · 20/05/2024 21:36

Omg this is me! Tonight I’ve eaten flame steak wotsits, mccoys a slice of cake and a penguin 🤦‍♀️ and this is me being ‘good’
On a bad day I could inhale triple that

Fisherhatesgravel71 · 20/05/2024 21:39

Im a glutton for the sharing bags of choc. I actually asked dp what he thought the sticker was for on the back! To reseal and finish another time? Really? 🙈

My dh thinks I'm nuts because I do this. I always eat the chocolate first and then the crisps

Popcorn fiend here

Sort of yes. I used to like eating Kit Kats with salted crisps.

Very poor substitute I agree.

Someone told me about kale crisps.

I tried those seaweed thin things, absolutely minging! 🤢🤮

Remember the point of this thread… snacking is a thing. I swear every era did it, so medieval times and so on.

I personally blame that Sir Walter Raleigh for bringing back the potato to the UK! 👿🫣apparently it was a colleague of his who actually brought them to England, Thomas Harriott.

I had a babybel cheese and a handful of chilli/lime mixed nuts while I was cooking dinner. Had to take my son to Cubs after dinner and I felt peckish when we came home. I started off well with a 0% fat yoghurt then followed it up with a Galaxy Ripple.
I can easily eat a big share bag of crisps before my dinner so i try not to open them. I can have them in the house but it's game over once they're open.
I bloody love crisps.

I swear they put crack in Pringles.

Thank god I’ve gone off the ready salted Pringles. For now! Wink

I only have popchips in the house for this reason, they're ok but I'm not going to go on a mad popchips binge....
Really fancy some Manomasa tortilla chips green olive and manchego or Serrano chilli and honey 😋

ewanisdreaming · 20/05/2024 21:53

Sat scrolling this thread with one hand with the other hand at the bottom of a bag of Thai sweet chilli sensations, I only planned on having a handful but here we are a bag in 😅 Crisps are my downfall I need to stop buying them.

lairyfights9 · 20/05/2024 21:54

Same here. Just had an ice cream and am heading to bed (because I'm tired and also to avoid eating more!). I'm a sahm atm and my danger times are in the afternoon when both my little ones are down for their nap, and the evening when they've gone to bed. This afternoon I ate a big salad and then; 2 packets of crisps, an ice cream and a bag of dark chocolate drops. Trying to lose the last 25lbs to get to goal weight (I've lost 4 stone since 2022) and it is not going very well atm!

TwoBlueFish · 20/05/2024 21:58

I find the only thing that works with crisps is not to eat any at all, not even low fat or “healthy” versions. I can’t stop buying them as my kids like them. Once I’m started I can’t stop. My worst time is late afternoon and while I’m cooking tea.

I’m trying to stick to fruit, baby tomatoes and chopped up sweet peppers instead. Also chewing sugar free gum when I really get the urge.

Devastated999 · 20/05/2024 21:59

Bloody Mackies and Taylors family size crisps are devoured by me in minutes. The only way not to stuff my face with shoite, is to make a list and stick to it when shopping. If there are treats in the house I will eat them until my tongue is painful.

I keep thinking that this one (family sized) bag of crisps/chocolate won’t make any difference. But of course the scales tell a different story.

I can link my obsession to the first time I was given pocket money and bought as many 5p packs of crisps as I could.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 20/05/2024 21:15

Why are the evenings the worst?

Drinking does help if you’re hungry as your body can mistake hunger when thirsty.

I tell myself this repeatedly, but then lose all will power. If I could drop evening snacking, I’m convinced I’d lose a stone.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 20/05/2024 22:00

A colleague brings back 'chippers' whenever she goes home to visit family in North Dakota, chocolate covered hand cooked salted crisps. Honestly they are the food of the gods .
I realise I am not helping matters.....

You’re not alone! I’m currently addicted to Boosts and am on my 2nd one of the day. I get addictions to different chocolate that last a year or so but this one is going strong..

I don’t drink so chocolate is my treat.
I bloody love it. I am very overweight but am active and walk my big husky to the shops to buy more Boosts 😊

I have boost addictions every now and then 😳 they're yum.

I can't have pringles in the house at all. If they're here I will eat them... especially prawn cocktail 😭
