My dad's partner died of cancer a few days ago, he and I were with her when she died, and I've brought him home with me until the funeral (and probably permanently). He's got Alzheimer's and his partner was his carer. He's been looking pained and twisting his shoulder, he said it's just a spot, but I made him show me his back and found this. It looks just like the squamous cell carcinoma he's had removed before, only it's enormous. He's lost weight and is pale and more vague and breathless than usual, but I thought it was just grief Sad

This is really fucking bad, isn't it? He survived stage 4 lymphoma in 2017 and has a heart condition. I have a doctor calling me back from 111, but should I just take him to A&E?

It's done! Took a bit longer than anticipated but it's done, he's got an 8 inch scar but he's fine. He came out lively as a cricket, singing the praises of the NHS and saying God Bless to all the nurses Grin I imagine it will be a bit more uncomfortable once the anaesthetic wears off, but they said to ring them if paracetamol isn't enough. I am so, so relieved.

It will be a 3-5 week wait for lab results, so I need to park that now and focus on the funeral on Friday and getting us all through that. They said he should be fine to travel on Thursday and gave me extra steri strips to put over the stitches on Wednesday just for extra security.

Going to ring the gp surgery now to book him in to have the stitches out in 10 days, and chase the chest Xray referral up. Then dad and I are going to sit in the garden and do some watercolour painting ❤️

Well that's very good news!
I'm very glad it's been excised.

I'd give him the ibuprofen and codeine before the local wears off.

ArabellaScott · 10/06/2024 13:06

I am so glad to hear that OP. Enjoy your painting xxx

recklessgran · 10/06/2024 13:11

Wow, what a relief for you. Well done for jumping these hurdles - I hope for the moment that some of the worst is over. I know these things are never linear but today was a major breakthrough for you both. Sending love op - you have a lot of virtual support behind you both. Enjoy some sunshine if you can.
