Have they changed the ingredients...Sure deodorant doesn't seem to be cutting the mustard....

Plus every single brand who has ever claimed "No White Marks" should be lined up against a wall and be pelted with rotten fish.

Austrocock · 20/05/2024 17:31

I've noticed this too. I've had to swap to a different (more expensive) brand.
It's either because of my hormonal changes in perimenopause or the deodorant manufacturers are cutting corners to keep the costs of production down and profit up.
Which is maybe not going to work out well in the long run if people like me abandon brands they have used for 30 years because it doesn't work properly any more.

Not sure about that, but your deodorant needs definitely change as you get older, particularly at and past menopause.

This is true - during menopause for me, not so much after. I've been proper old for years now, and my last two cans of Sure '48 hour cotton dry' have DEFINITELY been less effective than previously. And more expensive! Next shop, I'm switching to the men's shelf in case they still work.

@MistyRoseBlue
'I use men's unscented deodorant as it's stronger'

I was mortified when a colleague had to have a quiet word with me a few months ago. So I tried Driclor and Mitchum which made me react - horrid.
Dove Care mens 72 hr roll on has sorted it (i douse some Driclor every now and then too). Phew.

afterfive · 20/05/2024 17:48

I thought it was just me, but I thought the same the last month or so!! Dove doesn’t do anything anymore, like nothing!? Same with some other brands. Useless. And I’m not even very sweaty.

I know some were made in Russia before, no idea if it’s got anything to do with it..!?

Allwelcone · 20/05/2024 17:51

@afterfive have you tried their mens roll on though or do you mean the spray which I agree is crap now.

noimnotbutyoushouldseeyourfaces · 20/05/2024 17:53

Crap or not, I can't get past the fact that I paid £4 for a can of dove in Tesco. 😅

I haven’t tried the spray or the mens roll.
I think it’s the Dove 72h Advanced Care Cucumber..

ArcticBells · 20/05/2024 17:57

I never apply anything unless going to work or out as I don't smell and find nothing stops dampness. Only use it for work etc as feel I should!

Kyogo67 · 20/05/2024 17:57

Previously loved Mitchum but not the same any more.

I have found the Sure in the box which goes on like a cream is actually really good

TheMixedGirl · 20/05/2024 17:58

I think.youre supposed to change deodorant regularly

Amazed that a deodorant is marketed to last 72 hours. Whoever goes that long without washing?!!

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 20/05/2024 18:00

After a while I find deodorants stop working for me. Usually takes many years but I have to change brands.

NotSentFromIphone · 20/05/2024 18:06

Oh wow, I was literally suspiciously sniffing my armpits 5 minutes ago and muttering deodorant doesn't work as well a it used to. Its not even super warm and I've been chilling on the sofa most of the day

I've used 'Sure' spray for probably 30 years now and something has definitely changed recently. Guessing they've removed some toxic ingredients?

Blackcats7 · 20/05/2024 18:10

Used mitchum for years then it suddenly started making me itchy. Tried fussy, very expensive and utterly shite. Now using sanex but reading this thread will check and see if my one is actually anti perspirant.

It can happen, older people who need help with bathing probably only get support twice a week at most. People worried about the cost of utilities might not have a full shower or bath everyday etc.

I would imagine most able-bodied people will shower at least every other day though funds permitting.

wwyd2021medicine · 20/05/2024 18:13

I think the mens ones are better.
I have been using mens for 30 years and never been told I smell like a man!

Cellotapedispenser · 20/05/2024 18:38

Goodness, another one that's been thinking this for a few months. I have been alternating between mitchum and the sure in a box which has worked for years and now suddenly I'm a stinky sweaty mess. Most annoying. There must be some ingredients they can't get hold of but it's really annoying to be paying so much for an ineffective product.

rainbowbee · 20/05/2024 18:46

I used to use Dove with no issue for years. They changed their formula; it doesn't work now, smells funny and ruined some white shirts. I'm cross with them.
I tried: Mitchum- just ok but didn't really work that well, Black and White- works decently but far too strongly scented, Sure- just ok, smells like chemicals, and finally the unscented Triple Dry which is excellent.

buffyslayer · 20/05/2024 19:19

things that do help me are
Washing armpits with soap and something scrubby as anti perspirant clings to skin
Wiping them with glycolic acid after shower
Then I use the dove/sure max cream one linked earlier but at night

mysi · 20/05/2024 19:47

Interesting. I have had clumping issues, thought it was me. Still just as effective though. I use Sure Men's 48hr Active Dry after washing with Simple bar soap. I sweat easily so have always used men's products.

murasaki · 20/05/2024 11:53

I always find the 72 hour thing odd anyway. Surely even the skankiest person would have washed and reapplied deodorant well within 72 hours. So they are basically saying this deodorant is for scuzzers.

No, it's for the clothes.

Toomanyclothesinmywardrobe · 20/05/2024 20:16

I noticed this too - I blame peri menopause and the general decline in everything that used to work in the UK and no longer does (which apparently now includes my body 🙄)
The best solution I’ve found (and it is NOT cheap) is called AKT. It actually works, smells lovely, tube lasts for ages. I’ve found it a worthwhile investment (I tried a sample for £3 before taking the plunge!)

Cherrysoup · 20/05/2024 20:17

I used to love the Dove cucumber one, it disappeared, then reappeared-tiny! Their other scents smell like sweat. My sense of smell has definitely changed, but I really want pomegranate deodorant! Saying that, the Lidl pomegranate washing up liquid smells like blokes’ aftershave!

YouAndMeAndThem · 20/05/2024 20:18

The new Mitchum gel is brilliant
