Do you pay to have your oven cleaned?

I have mine professionally cleaned once per year and it always looks brand spanking new afterwards. Love it. Couldn't do a better job myself. But a friend commented on the laziness of it and it's made me question myself...

I get mine done every 3 months for £40 because I'm truly lazy and couldn't give a shit 😁

Gettingbysomehow · 19/05/2024 11:54

I pay to have my oven cleaned snd my car cleaned.ife is way too short to do either of those things.

Your 'friend' is just jealous I expect. Why is it lazy to pay people to do things for you?

Does she ever eat out? Have a take-away? Pay a babysitter?

Good for you!

It's not laziness, it's paying someone for a service that you don't want to do. Do you grow and harvest all your own vegetables? Do you bake your own bread and cook everything from scratch? Bravo if you do but it's no shame to pay someone else to do those things.

GrandHighPoohbah · 19/05/2024 11:59

I did when the DC were younger and I commuted to work. It was a godsend
Now they're older and I WFH I find I can keep on top of it better so I don't pay someone any more. I definitely would again though if it got bad.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 19/05/2024 12:01

No, I rent so don’t really care about keeping the oven looking pristine and never really clean it but I would pay someone to do it if I had my own home and oven as it’s not something I would want to be faffing about doing myself.

TheDefiant · 19/05/2024 12:09

Treated ourselves to a Christmas oven clean - was amazing!

The man dismantled the oven took parts out to his van for soaking and then cleaned the rest with an attention to detail that DH has never had and he didn't make a mess! DH normally messes up the whole kitchen.

I don't clean the oven because the cleaning materials we choose make me sneeze.

The cleaning man had environmentally friendly cleaning materials and loves his job. £65 and it took him 90 minutes or so?

Will definitely do it again. Though we've been keeping on top of the cleaning since. Will maybe be a treat every 2 years.

lol

Just be very carefull that you cover items that can be covered etc and clean it properly every two weeks and light clean once a week
I'n not sure if ours is one of those self clean ones, but in the scheme of things it relatively easy to clean and we had the oven quite high up so easy to access and clean

Another point, if oven is not cleaned properly regualry, it keeps on smelling of previso foods etc

We have our cars washed every do often but insides are just clean and just need the front mats to be dusted
Re oven, see my previous post

SpringLobelia · 19/05/2024 12:15

I most certainly do!! Every 9 months. It is a double smeg oven with a 5 burner hob and costs about £130 to have cleaned. I consider it a vital part of life. The oven lady takes the whole thing apart and last time she put in a new seal and oven light.

It simply is not possible for me to clean it as thoroughly as she does.

I give it a normal spray wipe down after every couple of days but it's no match for a decent professional clean.

TheChosenTwo · 19/05/2024 12:18

Every year absolutely no guilt or shame here.
Costs about £200, they do the double oven, hob, grill, extractor fan and also do our integral microwave that’s rarely used tbh but they are next to each other so makes sense to get it done.
Takes him 3-4 hours and it’s immaculate when done.
We outsource loads of jobs, helps the local economy too!

PinkyBlueMe · 19/05/2024 12:19

Yes, and they definitely get it cleaner than I ever could.
A friend of mine once posted on social media how pleased she was after hers was done, and a particularly mean-spirited "friend" immediately commented about why not do it yourself, how she does it herself, can't understand not doing it yourself, tips to do it yourself, etc. A new low when a busy mum is shamed for paying someone to clean her oven!

CheeseyOnionPie · 19/05/2024 12:23

Yep

SpringLobelia · 19/05/2024 12:25

There are loads of things I outsource.

I have a cleaner, a gardener and a window washer. The bus driver takes me to work. Teachers teach my children. Farmers grow my vegetablea and fruit or my meat which my butcher then sells to me.

People who shame already busy people with busy stressed lives for contributing to another person's employment and the economy and just making things a bit easier for themselves are ridiculous.

If I could have ' a daily' like my grandmother did I'd do that in a heartbeat.

AlltheFs · 19/05/2024 12:27

Ours are self cleaning, press a button once a month and job done.
The old range was done professionally annually though.

Cofaki · 19/05/2024 12:29

Yes once a year after Christmas to get the horrible turkey fat out of it because I don't eat meat and otherwise the oven just stinks.

randomusernam · 19/05/2024 12:39

Yes and I'll never go back to cleaning my oven. It's worth every penny and like others have said I'd never get it as clean myself.

LBOCS2 · 19/05/2024 12:42

Get it done once a year. It looks fantastic afterwards - like a new oven. Worth every penny.

I also have a cleaner and a gardener, pay for childcare and get food plan delivery boxes. I outsource the things I don't want to do or don't have time for, which enables me to spend my time away from work doing things I DO want to do. No guilt whatsoever :)

Riverlee · 19/05/2024 12:42

Had it done professionally done it first time last year and plan to have it done once a year.

Wanttolikekimchee · 19/05/2024 12:43

Yes, twice a year. Good use of sixty pounds, tell your friend to try it. She’s obviously envious.

Pigeonqueen · 19/05/2024 12:44

I’ve had it done once in the last 5 years 🙈😬 and I don’t do it myself. Despite being really clean in every other way - clean bathrooms twice a week, beds changed weekly etc etc- just can’t be doing with doing the oven. I should probably get someone in again but it’s £50 ish I’d rather spend on something else. I don’t judge anyone else for doing it though!

longdistanceclaraclara · 19/05/2024 12:46

Once a year yes, and I use the Lakeland liners. I have no interest in cleaning my oven.

LOL or you can pay someone to do the job thoroughly as needed. I do, life's too short and he does a better job than I ever could.

SallyWD · 19/05/2024 12:50

I did once and I have to say I was disappointed. It was no better than if I do it myself using oven pride. Yes it's a job I hate and I loved having someone else to do it but it wasn't worth £100!

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 19/05/2024 13:08

I really don't think any of us could do it as well as it's done professionally. It literally looks like a brand new oven when they have finished, they are in business for a reason!

It's £45 here but a single oven and I'm not having the hobs and hood done (hood is still newish and doesn't really need more than a wipe, which I've done myself).

Glad it's not just me! Yes you are right fuck what other people think. It's an indulgence not a crime ☺️
