Do you pay to have your oven cleaned?

I have mine professionally cleaned once per year and it always looks brand spanking new afterwards. Love it. Couldn't do a better job myself. But a friend commented on the laziness of it and it's made me question myself...

Like yourself, I have my double oven cleaned yearly for £65, I couldn’t get it looking as clean if I spent a whole week on it! 👌

Yes, and it's worth every penny. 👍🏻

shuffleofftobuffalo · 19/05/2024 11:21

I am going to, the chemical are really harsh and I'd rather someone else used them than me.

Pettyman · 19/05/2024 11:22

No, not yet but I’m going to x

crosspatchdownthehatch · 19/05/2024 11:22

I am just chiming in as I would love to have this done but can’t afford it so hoping some bright mumsnetter will be along with amazing tips on how to achieve the same results in 5 minutes for a fiver … ! 😁

Q124 · 19/05/2024 11:25

Yes i have mine done every 6 months. That's the only thing I pay someone else to do though. I don't have a cleaner, gardener etc

BigGlassHouseWithAView · 19/05/2024 11:25

Yes, once a year.

I can’t stand people who go on about you being lazy if you don’t spend your time scrubbing or polishing or whatever. Is she someone that’s always ‘busy’? 🙄

We pay for loads of things to be done that we don’t like doing or don’t have time for.

Stop caring what others think and leave your friend to her oven cleaning and judgement. 😅

Theraffarian · 19/05/2024 11:30

I don’t , but it does have self cleaning insides , so anything sort of disintegrates onto the oven floor and just needs a wipe over . I wipe the hob after every use , and the shelves and hob bits ( gas oven ) go in one of those magic cleaning bags from home bargains once a year that has god know what chemicals in but brings them back like new and costs about £5 .

Sometimes you have to throw money at the problem, i think, and i definitely feel like that cleaning the oven is a problem!

ellesbellesxxx · 19/05/2024 11:34

Yes! No guilt whatsoever

BronwenFrideswide · 19/05/2024 11:36

No, my husband does mine and does an amazing job. Once he did it whilst I was away and the racks were so sparkling I asked if he'd bought new ones! (He hadn't.)

Helloworld56 · 19/05/2024 11:36

I pay for ours to be cleaned at least once a year. The man who does it has a waiting list, so it's obviously a very popular solution where we live.
He does a brilliant job and gets the oven looking like new. There's no way I could do it myself.

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 19/05/2024 11:38

The home bought chemicals, oven pride/mr muscle for cleaning your oven are extremely dangerous. If you do use be very careful. Getting someone in who is familiar with these chemicals makes good sense.

A young family member cleaned their oven with one of these products and had to spend time in the burns unit, getting skin grafts, infections and eventually have toes amputated when they didn’t notice it had dripped and soaked into their slippers. They had prepared with long sleeved gloves, but hadn’t protected elsewhere, it could just as easily dripped on their trousers and burnt their legs.

We use an oven liner on the bottom of the oven and replace every couple of years, and clean the removable glass door ourselves with hot water, kitchen cleaner and elbow grease. Harsh chemicals should not be used on tempered glass.

WeightoftheWorld · 19/05/2024 11:38

If we had more money I would definitely pay. As it is DH just does it twice a year instead. In fairness he does a bloody good job and much better than I could but it does take him ages.

SabreIsMyFave · 19/05/2024 11:40

I've never thought about paying someone to clean my oven! You can do this?! OMG! Shock

Mine's a wee bit rough. I do clean it every few months - but it's not ever really 100% clean! I might look into this now!

How much do you pay to have it done @LeaveTheClocksAlone ?

Have you written about that before on here? If not I read a very similar story on here. Horrific.

Yes takes my husband ages too, he does it in stages lots of elbow grease and no harsh chemicals.

PandaPopsxxx72 · 19/05/2024 11:42

I don't mainly because of the seriously harmful chemicals.
If you haven't seen Nancy Birtwhistle
yet, give her a little look. Chemical free, cheep, and the recipes/ suggestions really work. She's on Instagram.

Loyii · 19/05/2024 11:45

Yes once a year, the lady who does has a packed out list and it’s hard to get on even for a once a year, so lots of people do it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/05/2024 11:46

I did once - best £45 I ever spent, ages ago though. Oven is very ancient now though and doesn’t look clean even when it is. So except for the outside I hardly bother.

When a colleague's sister couldn’t face cleaning hers, she just bought a new one! 😂

Inspectorlemon · 19/05/2024 11:46

I used Bar Keeper’s Friend on my manky glass oven door and it worked perfectly, took 5 minutes.

Probably me. I do repeat it whenever I see an oven cleaning thread.

Having seen the damage those chemicals can do, I think they should be banned from public sale.

Shinyandnew1 · 19/05/2024 11:50

I paid once recently and it was lovely but to be honest, it was a lot cheaper to use Ovenpride every few months myself and keep on top of it. I also use a silicon liner at the bottom which helps. That’ll only work if you keep on top of it though.

AuntieMarys · 19/05/2024 11:50

I used to have it done twice a year. Worth every penny. Now dh does it...we eat little meat and tbh rarely use the oven

Moier · 19/05/2024 11:50

Have my cleaned once a year .. but l hardly use the oven part anymore.
Airfryer and slow cooker takes that away.
But it's not lazy.. ovens are bloody hard to clean
