Do you pay to have your oven cleaned?

I have mine professionally cleaned once per year and it always looks brand spanking new afterwards. Love it. Couldn't do a better job myself. But a friend commented on the laziness of it and it's made me question myself...

lol

Just be very carefull that you cover items that can be covered etc and clean it properly every two weeks and light clean once a week
I'n not sure if ours is one of those self clean ones, but in the scheme of things it relatively easy to clean and we had the oven quite high up so easy to access and clean

Another point, if oven is not cleaned properly regualry, it keeps on smelling of previso foods etc

Why would anyone do this if they don't want to, and can afford to have it cleaned professionally?

Notsonifty50 · 19/05/2024 13:45

Yes I do. It's worth every penny. I have asthma and oven cleaning spray sets it off so I can't do it. DH could but his principle with jobs he doesn't like doing is to calculate how long a job will take him and cost it using his hourly rate. If will cost lost to pay someone else to do it then he'll get someone in.

unsync · 19/05/2024 14:48

I usually use that stuff in the orange and blue box, but I had mine done for the first time this year. It was amazing. They also replaced the bulb so I now have light in the oven too. I have no idea why I waited so long before trying it.

LovelaceBiggWither · 19/05/2024 12:48

LOL or you can pay someone to do the job thoroughly as needed. I do, life's too short and he does a better job than I ever could.

lol

We left work aged just over 50 and now early 60's - we have plenty of time lol and you may be able to stomach previous food smells being reheated we cant as ours is not only self cleaning but we clean it a bit every week and major clean - people think our oven is brand new but its around ten yrs old, lol

TheUndoing · 19/05/2024 17:10

I wish I had. Gave my oven a really thorough clean when moving house so that it was lovely for the new owners. Despite putting down plastic and a towel on the floor just in case, the chemicals leaked out of the oven overnight and hideously stained the wooden kitchen floor. It was awful.

DinnaeFashYersel · 19/05/2024 17:18

Absolutely. Usually in the Rubio to Xmas.

Worth every penny.

Idontknowwhattodo78 · 19/05/2024 17:22

Yes, every 6 months. Worth every penny after nearly asphyxiating myself with Oven Pride 20 years ago!!

Rainydayinlondon · 19/05/2024 17:25

Do the people who clean them take the whole oven out and clean it outside? I’m a bit neurotic that they won’t rinse the chemicals off properly unless they use a hose or similar

LadyEloise1 · 19/05/2024 17:50

Yes.
Amazing results consider the oven is so old. Looks like new again.

Every oven cleaning company I have used takes all the removable parts out to their van and cleans them out there. This includes removing the door.

They clean the rest of the oven indoors however they don't use caustic cleaners like Oven Pride. When they're done they will normally leave the oven on and tell you to turn it off after a certain amount of time so you are sure that any residue has burnt off.

TM1979 · 20/05/2024 09:20

I get my double oven cleaned, it’s €70 and worth every cent. He leaves it like brand new. It’s not lazy at all. Oven cleaning is hard work!

OmuraWhale · 20/05/2024 09:23

No. But I pay to get my ironing done, so I'm not judging anyone who outsources a domestic job they hate!

rafeal · 20/05/2024 09:30

Yes we do. Just once a year and we get the bbq cleaned at the end of the summer too.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/05/2024 11:46

I did once - best £45 I ever spent, ages ago though. Oven is very ancient now though and doesn’t look clean even when it is. So except for the outside I hardly bother.

When a colleague's sister couldn’t face cleaning hers, she just bought a new one! 😂

I’ve done this before…it was old…but still working …but really manky

caringcarer · 20/05/2024 10:16

Like you I get it done professionally once or sometimes twice a year.

Rainydayinlondon · 20/05/2024 12:47

@Notsonifty50

Thank you!

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 20/05/2024 12:52

Yes, recently. My only regret is not knowing I could do it all this time. I had a particularly stubborn spillage and tried about 3 times using different products. I realised it was the best money I have ever spent. I get it done around twice a year now or as needed. There's a local company had a good website so a fee clicks and it's done. I'm all for trying things yourself and learning new skills but this for me is a no brainer. I plan to never again clean an oven.

EllieQ · 20/05/2024 12:59

Yes, it costs £50 and I get it done twice a year. We obviously wipe out any spillages and give it a quick clean in between the big cleans, but the oven cleaning man does a brilliant job. Well worth it!

kitsuneghost · 20/05/2024 13:00

I clean mine weekly but don't use oven cleaner. Just clean with pink scrubbies. Only takes a few minutes.

Are others leaving it months and doing a big deep clean after everything has built up for months?

Topseyt123 · 20/05/2024 13:05

I am responsible for several ovens - the one in our house and those in three properties we own and rent out.

I pay other people to clean all of them professionally as and when needed. It's a job I utterly detest/recoil from and just don't have the time for.

I should probably get ours done again soon. Many of these people will do basic repairs too as part of the service or for very little extra - such as if the lightbulb has blown and needs replaced.

SheerLucks · 20/05/2024 15:16

We have an oven that you can put on self-clean.

It heats up to about 500°C for two hours, then when it's ready to open just some minor powder ash is left which we can quickly wipe with a damp cloth. You don't even need cleaning products.

Chypre · 20/05/2024 15:20

Maybe I am not using my oven enough, but usually liberal coat of Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner left overnight (door closed) does the job, all that left for me is to wipe (no scrubbing necessary) the grime and toss the microfibre cloths into the washing machine, job done. I just can't justify the price for the service?...

Does she not also realise this contributes to a successful economy paying for a service and keeping people employed,

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 20/05/2024 15:30

I don't think it's particularly lazy to pay someone to do it, unless you're half of a complementary-skilled couple with time on your hands it's impossible to do everything yourself.

But.... once a year?! I can't help thinking of Queen Elizabeth who bathed once a year whether she needed it or not.
