Would you pay 8K for this?

All inclusive for a week in Greece.

I have fallen in love with the place, love the muted tones.

But is any all inclusive holiday for 7 nights worth £8,000? For 2 adults and 2 DC

I spend around £3k and find the places I go are really nice. Would it really be worth the extra £5k?

I don't have that kind of money, anyway Grin but genuinely interested to see if that type of place is worth it when you can go someone very nice for 2-3K

@treatsortreating

I am voting yes-looks absolutely lovely and seems ideal for your family.

Ikos hotels are on my bucket list for when I can afford it and when DS is either too old to come on holiday with us or doesn't need water slides to keep him entertained. If I could afford it I would go tomorrow

LondonFox · 15/05/2024 20:10

I thought you are buying a house to go to holidays yearly for 8k lol.
But I also don't like traveling that much so really not objective.

How old are the children? Apart from one small splash park it doesnt seem all that child friendly

Skibiddy · 15/05/2024 20:14

It depends on what you want in a holiday, surely?

Personally I would not spend 8k on a week in Greece even for a top hotel because I'd rather go somewhere more interesting to me, for longer than 1 week (so I can properly switch off), and I wouldn't want to be tied to being in one resort the whole time.

We did a month in the far east booking flights and hotels ourselves for around £8k. And stayed in some lovely places with great service and food.

But if ultra all inclusive is your thing, you love the look of the resort and you have the money, go for it!

Bectoria2006 · 15/05/2024 20:14

No I would want to go somewhere more special for £8k.

We went to Crete for 10 days to a premium all inclusive a couple of years ago and paid £5k but our kids were both teens so needed more than one family room (we had a one bed apartment). It was gorgeous, great location and the food amazing so looked to go again this year and it was £7k for a week.

Whatsmyusername1235 · 15/05/2024 20:15

No I wouldn’t pay that much to go to Greece, 8k for a weeks holiday is a hell of a lot of money and would rather spend that much going somewhere I am never likely to go back to again. You can get a few holidays out of that much and I would resent paying that for a 7 day stay.

seethingmess · 15/05/2024 20:15

Do you at least get two bungalows between four for £8k? Not all crammed into one room?

mangochutneyjar · 15/05/2024 20:16

Nope. I love Greece and have been many times but I wouldnt pay 8k to go there. For that amount I'd be going somewhere far flung and special

TemuSpecialBuy · 15/05/2024 20:17

I knew it would be ikos 😅😅😅

Saschka · 15/05/2024 20:18

now, a week skiing in half term apparently approaches 8K. Not sure what to about that!

Very much depends on where you go! We fly into Munich, get the train over to Austria, stay in a (lovely) self catered apartment. It’s about £5k for five of us. There are Crystalski packages for about £800pp half board including flights.

Still bloody expensive (I so miss going in January for half that price!), but nowhere near £8k for four.

Just not a fan of AI at all. When I visit another country I like to travel round it and check out the culture and history, culture the food. People who go on AI just slob on the loungers by the pool eating and drinking. Not for me, but hey, each to their own….

CallMeLena · 15/05/2024 20:25

I wouldn't pay £8K for a week anywhere, not even if they had someone spoon feeding me and wiping my bum.

Garlicked · 15/05/2024 20:25

You can catch a bug anywhere. I got dysentery at a very swanky hotel where I'd only eaten in. The other time I caught it, I was eating lots of street food and it kind of feels more likely that way - but, wherever you eat, it only takes one germ/amoeba and a bit of bad luck!

JohnSt1 · 15/05/2024 20:35

I don't think I'd pay that much for a holiday, as there's so much stuff I'd like to buy first. I'm not really a holiday person, but I do like visiting cities. I'd go to Tokyo if I could afford it.

NCDAParent · 15/05/2024 20:35

We went to Ikos Dassia (next door to odisia) last September and are going again next month with our 2 kids.
It's ultra AI, so every thing is included - mini bar, room service, etc. you can visit each restaurant as often as you like (not just once per visit) and the service is impeccable

worky · 15/05/2024 20:36

They are honestly amazing

Okaaaay · 15/05/2024 20:37

Yes probably for Ikos Dassia or Sani. But it’s an extraordinary amount of money and a risk as there will be high expectations.

MrsCat123 · 15/05/2024 20:43

I've been to this exact resort as well as the one in Andalusia and Halkidiki but out of season so thankfully not £8k (we've a 2 1/2 year old so making the most of it!). If you book direct you can get a repeaters discount of 10% year on year.

The resort is beautiful but there is limited entertainment (some of it was a bit 'Butlins') and you have to book restaurants, the Tesla, sea cruise and kids club in advance. Our daughter is too young for kids club and wouldn't leave her at this age anyway but have seen on the fbook group I joined before we went that in school holidays the kids club at Odisia is already fully booked - including for October half term 2024.

We weren't able to use the Tesla when we were there (fully booked) and you can only book 3 nights in the restaurants in advance unless you're Deluxe. As there are a lot of families people wish to eat around similar times and I really didn't like the whole having to book before we were even there and sticking to.a strict schedule!

Also it rained one day we were there and there was nothing to do. They ran out of umbreallas and we asked for a buggy to take us to the restaurant as the resort is huge, the rain was extremely heavy and we were at the opposite end to the booking and it took an hour and a half to turn up...

Also whilst I may sound like one of these people (I promise I'm not!) oh my gosh the moaning of some guests made me embarrassed to be British. Yes it's not cheap and the service is usually amazing but wow the whinging that I heard was unreal over the smallest things and I was disgusted at times the way some of the other very entitled guests spoke to staff.

Out of the three I've been to Andalusia is the best one I would say, especially if you take the Tesla to Marbella for the day, though it doesn't have a good beach.

If you've school age children I would look at somewhere like Cullinan, Regnum Carya in Belek, Turkey. I was a bit snobby about Turkey before we went to Cullinan - it was actually more expensive than Ikos but everything was a level up, especially the facilities for children / teens, shows, drinks and buffet food.

Sallyh87 · 15/05/2024 20:44

Looks lovely, if you have the money then go for it!

BlueyandBingo · 15/05/2024 20:54

We loved ikos when we went (different one though). The service was great and there is so much to do and fantastic food….
on the other hand we hated Sani- they were so pushy when we said somethings weren’t great and the ‘full board’ is a con as it didn’t cover a full lunch…

Mirabai · 15/05/2024 21:09

Hell no you could get a private villa with a chef for that, don’t like hotels. Particularly hotels with a lot of beige.

FoodieToo · 15/05/2024 21:20

Ikos is amazing . Have been to Dassia twice and Oceania once . Back to Oceania next year .
It's DEFINITELY worth the money in my opinion. However, I would try to go 'off peak' as opposed to paying 8k .

Laughing at people saying AI food is always awful . Obviously no experience of a top class AI.

ChampagneLassie · 15/05/2024 21:25

Before the link I thought well that wouldn’t get you Sani (we spent £6k for 2 adults and a baby in October - it’s not AI so that includes eating, drinking, crèche, babysitting and spa), I think £8k for Ikos for 4 sounds good value! Sani was very lovely and has set the bar. But if you’re perfectly happy with more bog standard then why waste the cash?

MaryFuckingFerguson · 15/05/2024 21:30

Yes, for 4, that seems a good price. I have not been to an Ikos hotel, but several friends have and rate them highly.

For context, we just spent £7.5k on an AI for 2! Holidays are expensive.
