Sorry for typo, title meant to say any not and.

I am hosting a bbq and have 3 vegetarian/2 vegan guests coming.
I would love some ideas of dishes you recommend/would want at a bbq.
please note yes I do have a separate one to cook on for them but also am happy to cook in the oven if needed.
Ive cooked for them before but want something a bit more exciting than veggie sausages!(unless they want them of course).

vegetable kababs, with lots of nice tasty veg, and some optional sauces

rainbowlou · 12/05/2024 22:35

That was quick! Thank you, great idea

Corn on the cob - lightly brushed with olive oil and salt.

Vegetable and halloumi kebab skewers - red onion, mushroom, peppers and courgettes (omit the halloumi on a couple of skewers for the vegans)

Along with veggie burgers and sausages, that would make a great BBQ.

OpusGiemuJavlo · 12/05/2024 22:38

More halloumi than the human mind can comfortably conceive of (the meat eaters will eat this too)

A variety of veggie sausages & burgers isn't boring

Asparagus barbecues nicely

murasaki · 12/05/2024 22:39

Halloumi and red onion skewers are nice.

Not sure if portobello mushroom bbq but maybe? They make a nice burger.

Ktay · 12/05/2024 22:39

Halloumi and fig kebabs.

I’d also be perfectly happy with a veg burger with all the usual accompaniments.

Slinkyminky22 · 12/05/2024 22:39

I came to say vegan kebabs, with cubed extra firm tofu (Tofoo is perfect), peppers and red onion. You can make a dressing or Schwartz/Nadiya's kitchen does a tasty kebab sachet to marinate in before cooking.

Slinkyminky22 · 12/05/2024 22:41

Vegan coleslaw too and potato salad.

parietal · 12/05/2024 22:41

a really good bean salad and / or potato salad - ottolenghi has good versions.

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 12/05/2024 22:42

On our last barbecue, we did veggie sausages, beyond meat burgers, marinated tofu (tofoo works great as so firm), corn on the cob, peppers, aubergine slices, Portobello mushrooms, asparagus and marinated cabbage slices. It was fab. Courgette slices work great on barbecues too.

mrswarthog · 12/05/2024 22:44

I do veggie skewers, vegan skewers (marinated tofu, peppers etc) and then Tacos, a pot of pulled jackfruit (and also one of pulled pork) with Chipotle seasoning, with guacamole, sour cream, cheese and vegan 'cheese', refried beans etc

bakewellbride · 12/05/2024 22:55

Aldi do great tofu and it's only 99p.

Vegetable kebabs.

Salads. I love lentil salads.

Plant based news has a good recipe section too

PineappleBanana · 12/05/2024 22:59

beyond meat burgers,

Vast majority of fellow veggies/vegans I know absolutely hate these meat substitutes (including me). So I’d probably avoid those and go for things that aren’t trying to replicate meat.

Candleabra · 12/05/2024 23:01

Mmmm I’d forgotten about courgettes on bbqs. I bet aubergine is amazing too. Must be more adventurous, some great ideas here.

PoppingTomorrow · 12/05/2024 23:04

Portobello mushrooms bbq beautifully

rainbowlou · 12/05/2024 23:10

Wow thank you everyone! So many great ideas, I think I will also happily be vegetarian that day too!

I would happily consume halloumi all day long

Potatoes on skewers with vegan pesto. Sometimes I used tinned.

I always cooks all the grilled vegetables separately.

Loads of salad and bread.

I'm more likely to cook the meat separately.

beyond vegan burgers and sausages are totally delish

some creative salads and dips eg. babaganoush (you can grill the aubergine on the bbq - will give it an amazing flavour)

grilled halloumi with chilli jam

slow roasted portobello mushrooms to make burgers

you will need some vegan mayo and other sauces as well as vegan buns

AdaColeman · 12/05/2024 23:15

Cauliflower steaks, with lemon, paprika & olive oil
Aubergine (plain or fritters)
Courgette (plain or fritters)
Asparagus, especially the thick white or purple stems.
