Reader, my baby is two years old.

I am not pregnant.

Good start to wearing my summer wardrobe. I’m tall and a size 12, I was wearing a floaty dress but… ffs.

😬

Erg gosh I’m so sorry this is my biggest fear …
Why do people ever ‘ guess’ that some one could be pregnant
enjoy your toddler and remember the gift they are ( having a non summer bod sucks !… but I know which I would rather )
ps I highly doubt you look truly
pregnant to any one with much sense given the stats you shared

Springtime111 · 12/05/2024 22:23

Some floaty summer dresses can look a bit 'maternity', especially the latest styles. I wouldn't take it personally in that 'you' look pregnant per se, more the dress.

FknOmniShambles · 12/05/2024 22:30

Try working in a Primary school - children are unintentionally brutal! On more than one occasion I've been in Nursery and had a little one pat my tummy and ask if there's a baby in there. Or even worse, ask in all innocence "why are you so fat?" Feels great! 😂

Oh I know I shouldn’t take it to heart.

Hard to shake the idea I actually look like I might be pregnant though.

I know a woman who I am sure is pregnant and I’m studiously not commenting because ‘what if she’s isn’t’. I’ll hold out till the baby is here if I have to. It’s just not worth the risk is it.

I’m not the most body confident person either, so was trying to make myself feel good about summer clothes.

Happened to me once, I didn’t bat an eyelid and just replied “oh not pregnant, just fat” - person was mortified, I bet they never asked that to anyone ever again. Grin

OfMiceandWomen · 12/05/2024 22:49

It’s the one thing in I never ask in life Are you pregnant or who old you are.
it just asking for trouble.

AbFabDaaaaahling · 12/05/2024 22:49

I'm a primary teacher and I was wearing a "floaty" tunic when one of the kids asked me if I was pregnant. I bloody hope not...husband had a vasectomy two years ago!! 😆

BonnieBo · 12/05/2024 22:49

@justasoul haha - of all the parts of my body I have worried about over the years, my stomach was never one.

Sometime last year I walked into the hairdressers and the hairdressers son was there (he’s about 5/6), he ran up to me and started rubbing my belly. Why did he go ‘baby, baby, you’ve got a baby in there.’ The way I just looked at his mum and sat down😂 my son was bloody 15 months at the time!

Tamigotxh · 12/05/2024 22:52

I had a guy stand up for me in the underground a while back. He was saying something in his own language to his friends and looking at me beforehand. It wasn’t until much later it clicked that they were probably discussing whether I was fat or pregnant and had apparently decided on the latter Hence one gave up his seat 😂 they were wrong lol

Spottedshell · 12/05/2024 22:53

I live by the rule that no matter what, you don't ask a woman if she is pregnant/ when it's due unless you can see the head crowning.

OP take heart- there comes a time when people stop assuming you're pregnant, just because they think you look too old. You are not there! 😁

True! Every cloud has a silver lining.

I don’t think I look any different to pre-baby really.

I wonder if having a toddler and pushing a pram makes people assume I might be having another? More baby-focused thoughts?

At least I managed to enjoy one day of summer before I was taken down 😂

I get tired of people asking me when I’m going to have kids, really? It’s so rude especially given that I’m 51.

buffyslayer · 12/05/2024 23:03

It's annoying
Not pregnant, just fat and have endo belly

Peachoolongtea · 12/05/2024 23:04

a doctor assumed I was pregnant when I was 19 and a size 6! I was wearing a floaty summer dress and he kind of grumbled, ‘oh, it’s hard to tell with those dresses’…

justasoul · 12/05/2024 23:05

@BonnieBo it was probably just the shape of your dress rather than your shape - floaty and maternity dresses can have similar shapes, can’t they? If I were a size 12 I wouldn’t worry about my stomach either Flowers

You must look younger! But it’s a rude question at any age.

HamBagelNoCheese · 13/05/2024 06:32

I am fat enough to look pregnant. I was quite overweight, lost weight, had a baby, then put on weight again and it seems the natural place for it to go is to my lovely stretched stomach area. There are so many dresses out there at the moment which definitely don't help. The ones that have a seam of some description under the bust area are the worst.

Despite literally looking like I am 9 months pregnant (carrying all my excess weight on the front apparently!), I've only been asked twice. Once was a lovely old man who must have been at least 90 so I just went along with it, told him only a few weeks to go and carried on my shopping. Thee other was a check out person in asda - I don't think she'll be assuming ever again!

Ankylo · 13/05/2024 06:40

Oh gosh! Before I had my now-2 year old, I was shopping with my mum for baby clothes for my soon to be Nephew. The assistant asked when I was due😬 my stomach is the place where I carry weight! I just never would assume, even if someone is looking for baby clothes! I couldn't wait to leave that shop.

If it's hard to tell why make the assumption? And I would have thought a doctor would have been more sensitive.. 🌹

peopleonthebusgoupanddown · 13/05/2024 08:21

I had a client email me after a video call (camera pointing down on meeting room from above tv screen) to congratulate me on my pregnancy and "not so little bump".

I'd been suffering infertility for 4 years. I am a size 10, so hardly fat.

Why people do this I'll never know.

Sounds like you are taking it in good humour OP. People can be idiots!

SoftPillowAllNight · 13/05/2024 08:39

I was once offered a seat on the tube and I was touched by a random man's kindness. When my DD was a toddler. Only later did I realise it was probably coz he thought I was pregnant Blush

UnravellingTheWorld · 13/05/2024 09:27

I'm sorry you were exposed to someone who is so rude!!!

Today I was asked when my baby was due
Jimmyneutronsforehead · 13/05/2024 09:28

I had the reverse of this happen.

I worked in an office all the way up to about 39 weeks, then took maternity leave.

On my last day I said ill see you all in a year, and every one asked why, and I gestured to my belly and said "because I'm about to have a baby?"

Everyone went "oh is that what it is?"

💀

Like I was just growing an extremely malignant tumour for fun, or eating a lot of cake.

Hadalifeonce · 13/05/2024 09:29

There are certain shapes of summer dresses I can't wear because of the way they hang from my boobs, they just make me look pregnant, even DD agrees, and I am 66!
