I'm South East, but it's on my bucket list to see it in real life 🤞🏽.

I think our eyes adapt to light conditions so that we don’t really “see” what’s there. The camera isn’t as clever as our eyes and brains so takes a true picture. I’m sure someone has a more scientific explanation than me but that’s my understanding.

@TriceratopsRocks how do you do night mode on an iPhone? Google is no help 😭

lazybutton · 11/05/2024 00:22

Anyone know if there’s anymore expected tonight?

alloalloallo · 11/05/2024 00:22

I’m on the Isle of Wight

It's all gone quiet here now.

Going to bed.

sheroku · 11/05/2024 00:23

I took a great photo but it’s barely visible to the naked eye.

You can see it with the naked eye where I am. Stupidly I assumed it would be green so when I first looked out the window I thought "nope can't see anything except that big pink thing up there"

I think it goes on all night and will also be visible tomorrow night but in more northerly regions.

Shortcaketea · 11/05/2024 00:24

Am I too late to see them? All locked up and I don't fancy venturing outside now

Ahhhhhbisto · 11/05/2024 00:26

South coast, light polluted area. Visable to naked eye. Cropped for privacy.

This is amazing Smile

Glasgow. Right in the city but at a small park. Once our eyes adjusted we could see some of the colours and where we should point the cameras.

Top left of your phone screen there’s a little yellow moon. It should automatically come on in the dark.

So pleased I saw this thread. Stunning here in Cambridge. Thank you OP, I was scrolling on mumsnet while nodding off, would never have looked otherwise.

No but just me and DC fast asleep here so I don't tend to go outside in the dark.

I've ventured out in the garden now, can't see anything but the skies are very clear and stars look electric.

Does anyone else feel weirdly wide awake?

Sunsetlullaby · 11/05/2024 00:39

There isn’t 😭 thank you though. I’ve given up. Maybe tomorrow.

Some of these photos are stunning. Here's one of mine, on my not very good phone. DS took his proper camera and I have high hopes of some of those. West Wales coast.

Edit: this somehow looks even less impressive here than just in my photos... I don't know how that works.

No! Can just see a whitish sky but when I take a photo it shows up but i feel that’s cheating.

I was beginning to think it was only me who can't see it with the naked eye!
