CF allotment thief thread no 4 - Babs’s dodgy solicitor and TV producers looking to cast for the role of Penfold?

New thread! Last one was here
www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5049200-cf-allotment-thief-part-3-the-plot-thickens-and-auditions-begin-for-the-west-end-musical?page=38&reply=135136744

So a quick update.

DH dropped me off for my surgery this morning then dropped the kids at school before heading to the allotment. Babs was there gardening as were some other people on their own plots. All her crap was still there

DH went up and reminded her that she needs to be off the plot by the 20th. She said that she is awaiting advice from her solicitor to see if she can challenge us. She also said if the solicitor says she has to be off, she will be gone by the 20th but isn’t giving it up without checking if she has rights first. She did a fair bit of guilt tripping to DH about how she has spent 10 years being part of a community and having a hobby and she now has to give it all up but he held strong and told her, unless she comes back with a legitimate legal claim her property will be off the allotment by the 21st - wether it’s removed by her or by him.

However - enter Penfold stage right

Penfold is what we are calling the allotment neighbour who marched over from the other side of the plots (because that’s who he looks like). He started shouting at DH saying “You’re a bully! Fancy picking on an old lady and taking her allotment off her after all her years of hard work”. He pointed out it’s his allotment now and Penfold said that “just because your name is on a piece of paper it doesn’t give you the right to steal it off it’s rightful owner”. He then start saying “What do you know about gardening pretty boy? These allotments should be for real gardeners not pretty boys like you”

When DH told me this I laughed so hard I thought my stitches may burst 😂 DH IS very pretty but he’s also mid-40’s and hasn’t been called pretty in many many years. We are in semi-rural Yorkshire though and a man wearing a top that isn’t either blue black or white is considered a feminine.

When DH stated he does actually know about gardening, Penfold was all “Yeah right yeah right all you know about is putting your make up on” 🤣🤣 and said how these allotment owners have been around for decades he can’t just barge in and kick people out. DH said he was half expecting Penfold to say “this is a local allotment for local people”.

Then it was BABS of all people who told Penfold to STFU. Not quite those words but she said “oh do calm down Nigel”. The other plot owners just kept their heads down apparently. DH took off in the end but he is considering buying a Danger Mouse t-shirt to wear when he gardens. I’ve told him I can help him apply his make up 😂.

Anyway Babs’s words don’t exactly fill me with confidence but it’s better than flat out refusing to leave I suppose. I’m absolutely confident that legally she hasn’t a leg to stand on, but that doesn’t mean some dodgy solicitor won’t claim otherwise for a bit of easy money off her. Either way unless there is a claim that has legs (highly unlikely) DH will be round on the 21st to set up his stuff. PP were right about insane allotment owners - but we are just gonna have to lump it and not let Penfold ruin our time there.

Just realised I will be on a flight in the morning of the 21st so might miss your update!

Hopefully will be some good news to look forward to when I land Smile

OhmygodDont · 16/05/2024 15:54

I’m supposed to be at an allotment meeting the evening of the 20th. Certainly won’t be forgetting to check in here in the morning after 😅

😂

Time to suggest an inquest into the treasury’s missing funds… What HAS happened to @YaMuvva’s money? Is the treasurer’s whining about his unreasonable expectations put upon @YaMuvva while she recovering from surgery and in the middle of a nasty eviction process a projection to deflect from his own inadequacy - or pray tell, has he been fiddling the books?

Fraaahnces · 16/05/2024 22:23

Is the treasurer Bab’s secret loverrrrrr?

YaMuvva · 17/05/2024 00:11

So I had a doc appointment today (yesterday?) my blood pressure is dangerously low and I’m on bed rest for a week. A WEEK!! And because I’ve fainted a couple of times I can’t be alone.

But fear not comrades! My Aunty will sit in with me on Tuesday while DH and DB go and check the plot. I have made it clear to DH live updates are imperative and he can’t do that man thing of coming back 4 hours later and me saying “So?!?!!” And he says “So what?”

Oh no. You’re really going through the wars. Hope you feel better soon. Looking forward to pretty boy’s report

I have to say I really didn’t think my recovery would be this hard and long. I know it’s only been a week but I flip between excruciating pain and total exhaustion to breathlessness and back to pain. I actually feel worse than the day I came round from surgery. I normally have a high pain tolerance and I’m healthy on a normal day so bounce back from illness super quick, but now I feel like I have the fitness level of a 50 stone man

My Dsis had your surgery and it takes time to recover. Take it easy. So sorry for the pain.

sashh · 17/05/2024 04:42

Sorry you are feeling crook OP. Can your DH live stream or similar?

HazelBite · 17/05/2024 04:50

I think Pretty Boy needs to go down there this weekend to check that Babs is pa king up and/or causing any damage!
Do get better soon OP x

Codlingmoths · 17/05/2024 05:00

I hope you sent that reply re the pta, I would!! Actually I’d probably have just replied all‘ hi Bob (chairs name), ‘for whatever reason’?? Nice to see you’ve completely forgotten I’ve just had a hysterectomy, but with support like that I feel fully motivated to look after myself for my recovery. Yes you will have to deputise someone unless you rewrite the charter to forbid medical leave for hysterectomies.

<treasurer> please could you refund my £x pounds.

Codlingmoths · 17/05/2024 05:02

That letter made me mad and I forgot what I was originally going to be commenting!! Why doesn’t babs just put veggie beds in her large garden?? Then they are right there. That’s what we do, I understand the attraction of an allotment, with all that space, but I don’t really understand what seems to be a common objection to gardening at home.

Pineapples1234 · 17/05/2024 06:32

Did the fainting start after you got jumped on? (That was you wasn't it?). Since you've now got very low blood pressure (that you didn't have when you left hospital?) I hope the doc has ruled out an internal bleed. At least there's someone keeping an eye on you, thank goodness for aunties.

DeanElderberry · 17/05/2024 07:45

I'm really sorry. A thing it's hard to realise when you're normally a strong healthy person is that there are times when 'mind over matter' doesn't work.

Your body suffered a horrible assault, the fact that your brain knew what was happening, and why, doesn't matter, it needs to recover. The old fashioned 'lift nothing heavier that a teacup for the next month' 'don't stand when you can sit, don't sit when you can lie down' advice doesn't get given so often now, because immobility brings its own risks, but just now you need to rest. Do some deep breathing, or maybe some reading aloud, to keep your lungs going, and let yourself heal.

It's terribly frustrating that you won't be able to see what is happening on Tuesday - any chance of borrowing a wheelchair and making a royal visit in the afternoon?

As for those bad articles in the PTA. I'd better not say what I think of them.

DeanElderberry · 17/05/2024 07:49

ps. general anaesthetic on its own would make you very unwell for weeks afterwards, even without the chopping up. Take care.

This is true. I was woozy for a couple of weeks after my hysterectomy. Someone lent me a Box Set of Fortunes of War to watch. I was nearly half way through before it made any sense at all.

CountingCrones · 17/05/2024 09:07

I’m sorry you’re having such a rough recovery! Is Pretty Boy dancing attendance in the requisite way? Do you have regular deliveries of coffee, snacks, and access to nonsense on screen to while your hours away?

At least being confined to quarters gives you plenty of time to cast any minor roles for the upcoming theatrical extravaganza.

Rest up!
