CF allotment thief thread no 4 - Babs’s dodgy solicitor and TV producers looking to cast for the role of Penfold?

New thread! Last one was here
www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5049200-cf-allotment-thief-part-3-the-plot-thickens-and-auditions-begin-for-the-west-end-musical?page=38&reply=135136744

So a quick update.

DH dropped me off for my surgery this morning then dropped the kids at school before heading to the allotment. Babs was there gardening as were some other people on their own plots. All her crap was still there

DH went up and reminded her that she needs to be off the plot by the 20th. She said that she is awaiting advice from her solicitor to see if she can challenge us. She also said if the solicitor says she has to be off, she will be gone by the 20th but isn’t giving it up without checking if she has rights first. She did a fair bit of guilt tripping to DH about how she has spent 10 years being part of a community and having a hobby and she now has to give it all up but he held strong and told her, unless she comes back with a legitimate legal claim her property will be off the allotment by the 21st - wether it’s removed by her or by him.

However - enter Penfold stage right

Penfold is what we are calling the allotment neighbour who marched over from the other side of the plots (because that’s who he looks like). He started shouting at DH saying “You’re a bully! Fancy picking on an old lady and taking her allotment off her after all her years of hard work”. He pointed out it’s his allotment now and Penfold said that “just because your name is on a piece of paper it doesn’t give you the right to steal it off it’s rightful owner”. He then start saying “What do you know about gardening pretty boy? These allotments should be for real gardeners not pretty boys like you”

When DH told me this I laughed so hard I thought my stitches may burst 😂 DH IS very pretty but he’s also mid-40’s and hasn’t been called pretty in many many years. We are in semi-rural Yorkshire though and a man wearing a top that isn’t either blue black or white is considered a feminine.

When DH stated he does actually know about gardening, Penfold was all “Yeah right yeah right all you know about is putting your make up on” 🤣🤣 and said how these allotment owners have been around for decades he can’t just barge in and kick people out. DH said he was half expecting Penfold to say “this is a local allotment for local people”.

Then it was BABS of all people who told Penfold to STFU. Not quite those words but she said “oh do calm down Nigel”. The other plot owners just kept their heads down apparently. DH took off in the end but he is considering buying a Danger Mouse t-shirt to wear when he gardens. I’ve told him I can help him apply his make up 😂.

Anyway Babs’s words don’t exactly fill me with confidence but it’s better than flat out refusing to leave I suppose. I’m absolutely confident that legally she hasn’t a leg to stand on, but that doesn’t mean some dodgy solicitor won’t claim otherwise for a bit of easy money off her. Either way unless there is a claim that has legs (highly unlikely) DH will be round on the 21st to set up his stuff. PP were right about insane allotment owners - but we are just gonna have to lump it and not let Penfold ruin our time there.

@YaMuvva I do hope you recover from your op without problems and the radiotherapy goes well too. You could have done without all of this though!

It has occurred to me that Sally may very well have told Babs she needed to get off the allotment and Babs absolutely refused and Sally couldn't face having a major argument with her or losing the sale of the house and the purchase of her own new one because of the refusal and decided to stick her head in the sand, not to mention it to the EA and hope it all would just go away, somehow?

It's good to see that one of your new neighbours says Babs is a PITA. I guess most of them ( apart from Nigel) probably feel the same

WickedSerious · 13/05/2024 13:09

Slippery Sally strikes again.

What's that old saying about a good liar needing a good memory?

Good luck with the treatment OP.

artant · 13/05/2024 13:18

Best wishes for your recovery and radiotherapy OP.

I suspect if Sally had a conversation with Babs it was a more vague one than she now claims but a conversation with her solicitor has brought things into sharp focus. It does need to be confirmed in writing but leave it to her solicitor and yours to make that happen.

The important thing is that you get vacant possession of your plot and can start to get the benefit from it.

Washingupdone · 13/05/2024 13:46

Wishing you well.
As you live in the same road as Babs, why hasn’t she got this extra plot of land like several others have?
Was it an extra plus for the first owners of your house because the attached garden was smaller than the others or the first property owners had the choice to buy the extra plot and hers didn’t or they did buy but it has since been sold off.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 13/05/2024 13:46

😀at YaBruvva.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 13/05/2024 14:00

It's a bit odd Sally wasn't aghast at Barbara still being on the plot when you spoke to her. I'm surprised she said it was Barbara's really rather than tell you Barbara had been given notice to be off to plot and what a to do. That conversation probably never happened at all. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when that info is relayed back to Barbara.

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/05/2024 14:12

This latest does seem to be a bit of a contradiction from Sally-seller... from 'its Babs plot really' to 'I told her to vacate months ago'... mm.

I don't think that conversation ever happened, I agree she's throwing Babs under the bus to save her own skin. I'd be VERY interested to know what Babs says when she finds Sally is saying she was given notice to quit months ago!

YaMuvva · 13/05/2024 12:14

He is not pretty but he’s tall and bald and has a bush beard.
Thinking caps on people 🤣

I'm sure that Stanley Tucci could be persuaded to grow a beard for the part of YaBruvva.
Alternatively, if your brother wants to be portrayed as a hard man, then Tom Hardy or Ross Kemp should suffice.

BMW6 · 13/05/2024 14:42

YaMuvva · 13/05/2024 11:11

My brother can go with him, he’s already booked and very excited to be part of the drama 😂 I don’t think I’ll be in any fit state for fisticuffs!

You should get them t shirts with slogans "Pretty Boy" and "Pretty Boys BIL"

I'd love to know Babs' reaction to this too. Sally is 100% lying about having told Babs she needed to vacate.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/05/2024 15:35

The Babs/Sally conversation might have been woollier than that.
Maybe more like:
Sally: I’ve found a buyer so I’m afraid you will have to leave the allotment. We’re exchanging in a month.
Babs: Oh I’m sure she won’t mind me staying! I’ve done all that work after all.
Sally (non-committally): Mmmmm….

MrTiddlesTheCat · 13/05/2024 15:40

What happens to the vegetables when she gets thrown off? Do they become yours or do you have to dig up her spuds for her?

Delphinium20 · 13/05/2024 15:44

I think there was some plot conversation between Sally and Babs but it went more like this:

Sally: I've sold and can't wait to sit in sun w/ Pool Boy
Babs: I still get my allotment rights, right?
Sally: Oh, well, technically it probably, most likely, I suppose in some hidden papers it goes to the new owners.
Babs: It's MINE and I fought you for it once, I'll fight you for it again
Sally: [worried this might interfere with pool and cocktail future plans] Oh, yeah, well, those pretty city slickers probably won't even notice there's a plot of land out back
Babs: And you won't be telling them about it either, will you [points to spade and recent pile of freshly dug earth]
Sally: Nope...let's just pretend this whole conversation never happened
Babs: That's what I thought.

I like your version. It will make much better tv than mine.

MissMoan · 13/05/2024 16:22

Is anyone else secretly hoping that Babs has seen this thread, and is realising what a CF she is?

JazzPigeon24 · 13/05/2024 16:35

@WearyAuldWumman that is an inspired bit of casting! Loved him in Outlander.

Though, I would put money on yours being the most accurate to reality. Maybe there will be two versions: the well-balanced documentary (serious stuff) and the highly dramatized fictional take (guilty pleasure fluff).

AGlinnerOfHope · 13/05/2024 16:47

Ah, come on OP! You get to roll out the big guns now as someone recovering from surgery and radiotherapy, and DH needing the plot for his mental health. Accidentally mention it in passing to the right person, and they’ll be starting a tea rota and bunting for the allotment.

AwBlessm · 13/05/2024 12:20

Yes! We need to cast YaBruvva right away!

Stanley Tucci
Dwayne Johnson (The Rock)
Dannie Wahlberg
Bruce Willis

All have worn beards but adding a bushy, believable beard isn't hard for an actor. 🌹

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 13/05/2024 17:22

@YaMuvva actually, if push comes to shove, babs can be legally served with a banning order to prevent her approaching the allotments and the area around the allotments!!! I would not hesitate to have sally billed for this legal action! Babs has planted her crop this year, knowing full well that she was not permitted to do so! she wouldnt stand a chance in a court of law. you look after yourself and let your hubby do all the work. six weeks without housework will fly by!!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/05/2024 17:49

Jason Statham surely? It’s all about faaaamly.

MercyDulb0ttle · 13/05/2024 17:51

Hope you feel better soon OP!
